Age of Adepts

0940 Chapter 0940 - Fate Chess Game

"You want me to go help those fraudulent witches? Why?"

Within the chamber of the Flame Throne, Grim was filled with amazement as he inquired.

Across from him, Alice, who had come all the way from the North, was full of gravity and looked as if something was wrong.

"Because these fraudulent witches aren't good at fighting, because I'm desperately trying to get on good terms with the fraudulent witches, because that bit isn't very dangerous... but the biggest reason is that there are..." in the end, Alice actually took the initiative to sit in Grim's arms and whispered a name next to his ear.

"What? There's even... there..."

Grim blurted out in full horror, but before he could get that name out, his mouth was blocked with Alice's palm.

"You can't say that name, or the whole thing will take some unforeseen turn."

"Why is that?" Grim shook his head in annoyance, "I always had a bad feeling that the whole thing just seemed to be specifically about me."

Alice smiled faintly.

"It wasn't directed at you, it was directed at me!" She suddenly stretched out a finger and pointed to the sky, "That old woman can't sit still again and wants to set the next trap for us."

Grim couldn't help but hate the sound, "Since we know it's her trap, we won't step on it, right?"

The smile on Alice's face became even more bitter.

"Now that you know it's a trap she's arranged, do you think we should step on it or not?"

A look of painful struggle appeared on Grim's face, and after pondering and hesitating for half a day, he finally gritted his teeth in anguish, "If there really is that there, I... I still want to try it out."

Whirling and releasing, "Why not step on it? If she wants to entice us to take the bait, she has to throw out some bait that will lure us in. As long as we steal her bait and don't swallow the hook, won't we get the best of both worlds?"

"It's not that easy!" Alice astringently smiled: "I hope you think about this matter carefully and don't make a hasty decision. Once you decide to enter the game, the whole course of events will be out of our control. In that lonely and dangerous environment, every move you make, every action you take, will deeply affect the final outcome. And there's not much I can do to help you..."

Grim asked cautiously in return, "Will there be an enemy there that I cannot match?"

Alice shook her head: "No. According to the information I have so far, there are only two 4th orders inside that bit, one has been badly wounded by the Fraud Witches and his whereabouts are unknown, while the other 4th order is leading an army to besiege the Witches' stronghold. As long as you're careful, the probability of meeting him isn't too great!"

"Could there be some other hidden enemies? Like a 4th order that hides its identity..."

"Oh..." laughed Alice proudly, "Don't underestimate me. Although I'm not as powerful as that old woman, I'm at least a Fate Witch who is blessed by the will of the world. If she has planted anything in that world, it cannot be hidden from my Fate Foreknowledge!"

Grim shook his head and sighed, "You two are always fighting, what's the picture?"

"She is the Witch of Fate, and I am the Witch of Fate... Which of us can truly represent Fate, and how can we tell the difference without a fight? Besides, the initiative of the war is in her hands, and I'm only passively responding to the war!"

"Isn't it hard to kill you when she's so powerful?" Grim was puzzled.

"She is indeed much stronger than me at the moment, and quite powerful. If she wanted to, she could easily put me to death by spending some money to hire a 4th rank witch. But she couldn't do that, because she was also a Fate Witch. If she wants to defeat me and kill me, she can only use the hand of fate, not the hand of someone else. Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to withstand the backlash of the Origin World's Fate!"

"I don't get it!" Grim shook his head dizzily, "Why is such a simple matter so complicated when you two women get mixed up in it?"

Alice smiled faintly and smoothed the gash in Grim's forehead with her hand.

"This is a matter for us Fate Witches, you don't need to understand. All you need to know is that it's a chess game she's laid out, and you're the only pawn in my hand. It's fine if we don't enter the game, she can't do a thing about it if we hide in the witch world. But if you decide to enter the game, you must be careful what she does. Remember, make sure to smash this chess game!"

"And it's good for you that I won?"

"Of course, because you're the one I chose! A win for you would mean a win for me, and the feedback from the Fate might allow me to ascend to rank 3 as well..."

Grim sucked in a breath of cold air and couldn't help but sneak his hands up on Alice's waist.

"No, no, no... you've been allowed to take all the benefits, and I'm a bitter man who comes out to take the thunder? Tell me, how are you going to make it up to me?" With that, Grim gently brought his mouth to Alice's ear, licked her warm, white earrings, and whispered, "You haven't done the styles I told you about last time, so make it up to me tonight."

Alice immediately blushed past her ears, and the room was charming.

...................

The Enwick bit.

It is a lowly bit that is still in the midst of a fierce struggle.

Ever since the Deceitful Witches targeted it and managed to build a stronghold and a tower of witches, the Enviks have been unable to escape conquest and enslavement.

The Envik Side was a small Side, and its magic concentration was only moderately low among most of the Side Worlds, only a little better than a low magic Side like the Goblin Side. It is only a little better than the Low Demon Planes like the Goblin Planes. With the accumulation of time, 4th level creatures have been born within the Planes, but in terms of quantity and quality, it is far inferior to other High Demon Planes.

Even though the Enwik Side was small, it had nearly 30% of the land area of the Sorcerer Continent, and had more than a dozen large and small kingdoms. Among them, the dominant one was a large human kingdom called Zambis, and the only two strong 4th level humans on the Envik Plane belonged to the Zambis Empire.

Ever since the Fraudulent Witches invaded the area, they had set up an outpost camp in a place called the Dabire Highlands and had managed to erect the Witches High Tower.

Since then, the war between the witches and the local natives had never stopped.

All this while, the Enwik bit had not received much attention from the Fraudulent Witches due to the fact that the witch resources were not that rich. Therefore, the only one who was stationed in the Enewick Side to protect the outpost camp was a 3rd level fraudulent witch.

With the Sorceress Gauntlet and the powerful and fierce witch beasts, one 3rd level witch, along with more than twenty middle and low level witches and apprentices, had been enough to maintain the security of the outpost camp and had caused that Zambis Empire to send out a large army several times without success and with heavy losses.

Unfortunately, during a recent army siege, one of the two strong 4th rankers of the Zambis Empire had risked his life to break into the Sorceress High Tower and destroy the inter-dimensional teleportation array there. This was a hit to the outpost camp, causing the resident fraudulent witches to instantly cut off their backup and become nothing more than a lone army.

Although that 4th rank human strongman was also severely wounded and withdrew from the battle, another 4th rank strongman led his troops to heavily besiege the outpost camp, trying to use this opportunity to overthrow the Sorceress Gauntlet in one fell swoop.

The form of the Enwik Dimension was in jeopardy!

The high ranking witches of the Fraudulent Witch line were all held back in other planes and could not be drawn out. Therefore, Angelina, as the leader of the Fraudulent Witches, was planning to send some strong hands into the Enwick Plane to send some of the most central resources for repairing the trans-dimensional teleportation array into the Sorceress Gauntlet.

Currently, the selected entry candidate of the Fraudulent Sorceress line was the 2nd level Lena.

Who called her the witch mastermind who was in charge of the Enwick Plane.

Now, because of her poor scheduling, she had left more than 20 sisters witches trapped in the alien plane, and it was incumbent upon her to personally make up for this mistake.

However, as an academy witch who had been raised for many years, Lena's own strength wasn't very strong. Even her rank of 2nd rank witch was hard piled up with resources from her status as the 4th rank clan leader Angelina's daughter.

Therefore, in order to save her own little life, Lena naturally did everything she could to find herself some reliable bodyguards. Thus, through the Ice Maiden Xuefu's connections, she rolled over and found Alice, the leader of the Fate Witch.

Alice, who was originally unconcerned about this, accidentally discovered something strange in that Enwik Dimension through Fate Foreknowledge. This soon attracted the attention of the Crimson Chief, the 3rd level legendary fire witch Grim.

All kinds of nefarious but with a hint of inevitability!

Naturally, Alice could also detect a strong taste of Fate interference from it.

Therefore, the first time she saw the Lena Witch, Alice already knew that this was a chess game laid out for her by her old enemy. The Lena Witch may not really know anything, and she also felt that everything was her own decision and a chance change.

But Alice could faintly see that an invisible hand was quietly manipulating it all.

There was no trace, no evidence, but she knew the other was there, and it was silently watching her every move and possible choice!

The next day, when Alice returned to the Tower of Destiny and told the anxiously waiting Lena Witch that she had invited the powerful 3rd rank Legendary Fire Witch Grim, Lena couldn't help but have a look of mixed surprise on her face.

To be honest, she hadn't held much hope this time.

Originally, she also only wanted to hire that legendary Worm Witch Billis, and it would be good to be able to hire the 3rd rank Blood Queen Mary if Xuef's face was big enough.

But now, the one who had come out was that powerful Fire Witch of the 3rd rank, the Crimson Family's most prominent and legendary patriarch. This... and how could it not make her overjoyed!

After making an appointment for a time and place, the Lena Witch and that accompanying Lord of the Itariel Tower turned around and left.

Vaguely, Alice seemed to hear that soft laugh in the void that was hard to hide with pride!

"Well, the chess game has just begun...let's see what happens!"

Alice smirked as well.
