Age of Adepts

Chapter 0971 - Raiding Hessus

Late at night, the city of Hessas was attacked.

The attack came from outside the city.

Hundreds and thousands of infected people who had been transformed into poisoned corpses by the plague poisonous fungus had gathered from all directions and wildly impacted the gates of Hessas City.

For the sake of this moment, the plague poison spirit Remy had sprinkled plague seeds all over the surrounding human villages and towns, infecting thousands of creatures with the hidden plague. In order not to catch anyone off guard, it had all of these plague seeds safely lurking in the body of a single villager and merchant traveler, diminishing its lethality.

When Grim gave the order, Remy also immediately activated all of the plague seeds.

Almost instantly, more than a dozen villages and towns and thousands of humans all fell to the ground shrieking in pain and began the terrifying transformation of poisoned corpses. Those with weaker constitutions, or those with substandard bases, all died miserably during the painful transformation process.

Only seven to eight hundred people were able to persevere through the poisonous corpse transformation.

However, this was enough!

At Remy's order, all the people who had lost their minds and transformed into virulent zombies swarmed madly towards Hessas City, climbing up the city walls with inhuman speed and agility, fighting with the city guards who had hurriedly arrived.

It was said to be a fight, but it was actually more like a torturous killing!

These modified poisonous corpses don't know what death is at all, and have lost all consciousness, lying down on the ground one after another, crossing over like flying, ho ho dry howling and pouncing on the heavily armed City Guards soldiers.

The city guards struggled to swing their swords to chop at their bodies, just like chopping at rhinoceros hides, shocking their wrists numb, but it was difficult to create enough damage to them.

These unconscious, fearless, and immensely powerful terrifying poisonous corpses flew up one by one, threw the warriors to the ground, and lay down on them to gnaw and bite like crazy. And they became beast-like sharp claws and teeth, with terrifying toxins attached to them. Just scratch a little skin of a human warrior, and the other will die within a dozen or so flexes of the toxin attack.

And these newly dead warriors actually convulsed and shrieked violently again as Remy floated over them. The guys who were able to become Imperial Warriors obviously had good physiques. So most of them survived the horrible poisonous corpse transformation and then rose up from the ground in a crooked manner.

They had discarded their swords and were still wearing their pre-life clothing, their skin turned a horrible dark blue color, starred with purple and black poisonous spots. They hoovered and cried out strangely, running on their bellies like a wild animal, quickly joining the previous army of poisonous corpses, jumping off the city wall and pouncing on the nearby homes.

There was still sporadic fighting going on above the walls, but it was nothing more than a few on-duty Black Iron Knights occupying a tower where they were holding back. When the impatient Remy stepped onto the battlefield himself, this tiny bit of resistance disappeared with it.

And behind Remy there were also three more servant corpses wearing Paladin-style armor that could only howl like wild animals.

These poisonous corpses were easy to transform and were useful in dealing with ordinary people. However, their individual battle strength was only comparable to that of a beginner apprentice, and even those trainee knights could easily deal with several of them.

Therefore, Remy didn't treat them as the main force of the battle at all, but gave orders for them to disperse and rush inside the dwellings, trying their best to infest as many humans as possible.

Hundreds of poisonous corpses broke into Hessas City, also instantly turning the place into a human purgatory.

The helpless people scattered in panic, screaming, shouting, crying and begging for mercy..................

When ordinary humans encountered poison corpses, they could do nothing but shut their eyes and wait for death.

These venomous corpses are painless, fearless and covered with poison, but they are also as agile as a cheetah. They could climb over walls and climb over homes as if they were on the ground, and they could even fly through houses.

People were running helplessly, crying, and everywhere they went, they could see a swift, flying figure jumping freely on the houses and walls.

From time to time they swooped out of the darkness and tackled a human to the ground, then gathered together in groups, and you fought and enjoyed feast after feast of blood and flesh.

Some brave and strong men stepped forward, slashing over one poisonous corpse after another with their swords. But these poisonous corpses didn't seem to care about the huge wounds and blood holes on their bodies, even though their hands and claws and heads were cut off, they still desperately tore and clawed at each other's bodies.

Unless they were *completely* killed, they could only die completely!

And once they died, their entire bodies would diffuse a horrible yellow-green smoke cloud. Any creature that touched these smoke clouds would be infected with the dreaded plague seeds in the shortest possible time.

Faced with such a hard-to-kill monster, the people who had just mustered up some courage quickly collapsed.

They dropped their sticks and swords and hid in the east, no longer willing to continue fighting with such an unkillable monster.

And just as the poisonous corpses ravaged the city of Hesas City, a group of distinctly armored and well-trained city guards stepped forward and formed a shield wall spear formation at the street intersection there. Then, under the command of the Paladins, they shouted slogans and stepped in neat steps and began to advance forward step by step.

A few unsightly poisonous corpses jumped down from the top of the surrounding houses, pouncing on the spear formation with their hands and feet.

They leapt and poofed, and managed to hang themselves on top of the five meter long metal spears. Instead, they twisted wildly to let the spear pass through their bodies and approached the shield formation a little bit.

Their ebony claws scratched and creaked on the metal shield, leaving a terrifying scratch on it. And a thick, foul-smelling poisonous smoke drifted out from their wounds, quickly wrapping around the front of the shield formation.

The three shield-bearers caught in it coughed violently, and the entire shield formation immediately became twisted and distorted.

"Don't panic, stay in formation and keep advancing..." the holy knights with long swords acting as governors shouted out.

As a milky-white holy light sprinkled over the warriors' heads, the newly infected plague germs on their bodies were instantly dispersed, and they quickly returned to normal. As for the poisonous corpses wearing spears, they were hacked into a pile of scattered body parts by the Paladin's hands and swords, and then torches were used to ignite the poisonous smoke.

Ordinary poisonous corpses used to deal with the Paladin were obviously hardly effective.

Whether it was the poison contained in their bodies or their sharp claws and teeth, they were all restrained by the Paladins.

In a way, Paladins were truly the nemesis of all evil creatures!

At this time, there were many experts in Hessas City, and the strong were twice as many, so Plague Poison Remy chose to stealthily go behind the curtain and desperately transform the poison corpses to impact those Holy Knight troops. Although the damage to the poison corpses would be very severe, they were able to firmly hold back the Holy Knight troops within the city.

While the plague poison corpses were fighting and tangling with the Paladin troops at various street corners in the city, Grim was already dressed up as a Black Iron Knight and striding towards the Chapel of Holy Light.

Everywhere along the way, the hastily arriving Paladins and the large contingent of stern city guards could be seen. The few streets surrounding the Chapel of Holy Light were already under martial law, and no one was allowed to take half a step near the place. Only a very few of the upper class nobles of Hesas City were able to take refuge within the Chapel of Holy Light for the time being under the protection of the Holy Knights.

As for the rest of the lower and middle nobles, even if they cried out for their parents or cursed loudly there, they would not be able to take half a step into the Chapel of Holy Light. However, they were still much stronger than ordinary people, after all, there were still large groups of city guards and holy knights around them that could give them some protection.

At such a critical moment, the city was already in chaos, and the chain of command of the city guards and holy knights was in some disarray as well.

With that black iron knight's outfit, Grim was able to reach the Holy Light Chapel gate almost completely unhindered.

A high breastwork had been erected here, manned by a large group of Paladins themselves.

When they saw someone striding forward, they all pressed their swords each, and their mood lifted sharply. But when they saw Grim's equipment, they let out a silent sigh of relief.

A 2nd rank silver knight greeted them, shouting loudly, "What's your name? What are you doing here at this time of year if you're not keeping your post tight?"

Grim looked solemn, "Quickly take me to His Excellency the Commander, I have found the wizard in the city!"

"What? The wizard...where is it?" The silver knight looked startled and asked back nervously.

"The matter is urgent, quickly take me to your Excellency the Commander. I was dispatched to the Noble District a few days ago, and then accidentally discovered that there were people there who secretly colluded with witches and introduced them into the city and secretly performed some horrible evil rituals..."

"What? These damn nobles..." this silver knight immediately became gritty, "Good, this information you've provided is good, I'll take you to see His Excellency the Commander. Only he can give orders for such a matter. Come with me!"

With that said, the Silver Knight returned and gave a few words of explanation to a few of his men before leading Grim hurriedly towards the inside of the chapel.

As the two of them strode inside, Grim scanned all the buildings within with a longitudinal glance.

"My lord, I have secretly observed that that evil ritual was probably used to attack our sacred phalanx. Is it secure enough to be guarded there?"

"Don't worry," That silver knight casually pointed to a brightly lit hall on the right side of the cathedral and said comfortingly, "There are three silver knights guarding there, the enemy wants to destroy no..."

Before he finished speaking, he suddenly felt a shockingly violent elemental fluctuation from behind him.

When he looked back in horror, the entry point was a rapidly growing steel fist....
