Age of Adepts

Chapter 1102 - Strange Ghosts

The remaining enchanted item is a fate clay tablet.

Keeping it close to your body, it would heat up once it sensed danger, thus alerting the bearer and making it a good early warning item.

This kind of item was difficult to judge their item level as it involved the mysterious and inscrutable power of fate. However, based on the strength of the power of fate imbued on this fate clay tablet, the chip classified it as a rank 3 item.

This meant that it had a certain degree of credibility when it came to predicting 3rd-rank creatures or items. As for those things above 3rd level, it would only have a vague warning function.

Unlike those two Tier 4 wizards, this Fate Mudslide was not an origin item, so Grim could use it directly as well. Therefore, Grim did not hesitate to place it within a pocket on his chest and pressed it tightly against his chest.

After cleaning up the battlefield, the town was already bathed in a golden morning light.

The warm and gentle sunrise streamed in through the wooden windows at both ends of the small building's corridor, dispersing the last trace of darkness in the air.

As a result of the fierce battle, the entire small building has been nearly destroyed, Grim side of the series of rooms were violent flame burned through the roof, leaving only the broken foundation of the wall and scattered scorched furniture can still barely see the previous appearance.

Grim pushed open the scorched wooden door that was only half a valve and had just arrived in the middle of the now charred corridor when the door to the room on the other side of the small building creaked open and the Holly Wizard stretched out of it.

"It sure is a beautiful morning! Congratulations, Lord Grim."

To the devastated battlefield in front of him, the Holly Wizard was oblivious and greeted Grim with a smile on his face.

Grim naturally returned the greeting politely as well.

After a few words of hypocritical hospitality, the two of them walked down the stairs that had collapsed nearly halfway down one after the other.

And that Qiu Lisa was also waiting for the two of them in the first floor hall.

The three of them did not mention the battle that happened last night, nor did they care about the terrifying sight of the apocalyptic hell around them, nor did they ask about the whereabouts of that Shani.

Just as the three of them were simply chatting, a miserable and trembling voice suddenly came from their side.

"Save me... please save me..."

The three of them turned their heads to look, the middle-aged noblewoman with the gaudy dress was bleeding with her eyes stretched out her withered and charred hands, trembling as she walked towards them step by step.

Grim's brow furrowed slightly.

With the intensity of his and Shani's battle last night, the entire Maplewood town had been razed to the ground, and it was even more unlikely that any of the residents here would survive. And Grim saw very clearly that the entire body of the middle-aged noblewoman in front of him was somewhat hazy and illusory, and under the golden sunlight, her clothes and flesh and blood seemed to be translucent.

Such a form, such a scent, seemed a bit like a ghost....

Before Grim's pondering was over, within the restaurant not far away, the two twins had also strangely drifted out, equally bloodied, equally miserable and begging for help, and their body forms were just like their mother's.

"It seems that their dead souls were bound to this land and eroded by the overly strong shadow energy, which is why they have transformed into such strange spirit forms." The Holly Wizard couldn't help but gush, "Don't mind them, they're now in the category of earth-bound spirits. As long as they are in this land, they are hard to kill..."

At the moment when Holly's mouth rang, the middle-aged noblewoman seemed to suddenly become furious and lunged at him, a pair of dirty and filthy scorched hands slicing through his body, but strangely not touching anything.

Faced with the provocation of a low-level spirit, the Holly Wizard, who had been unconcerned a moment before, turned pale and showed a hint of annoyance.

"Damn fellow, there's really no eye for it. Looks like you won't know what it means to be afraid unless you're taught a lesson!" The Holly Witch cursed hatefully, and a bright starlight fell on the middle-aged noblewoman as soon as she raised her hand.

The so-called spirit body wasn't afraid of physical attacks, yet it was still able to be harmed by elemental sorcery.

Under the starlight, the noblewoman didn't have time to flee far before the pieces melted away in a miserable howl and turned into a puddle of black water, which then evaporated away.

Before Grim and the others could avert their eyes, however, a white light flashed within a corner of the hall, and the middle-aged noblewoman resurfaced from nothing. This time she seemed to know the power of a few witches, screaming miserably and cowering in a corner never daring to come over and provoke them again.

And the two twin sisters likewise screamed and ran away.

Seemingly under some sort of fluctuation, for a time, countless white figures appeared from all over the small building that had collapsed nearly halfway down, and began to wander around aimlessly.

Looking at their shapes and appearances, they were the maids, servants, cooks, and guards of this nobleman's private residence.

They didn't seem to realize that they had died, and one by one, dressed in their living clothes, they were still busy inside the small building according to their past routines.

And when the three of them walked out of the small building, that's when they realized that the town had 'awakened'!

In the midst of a scorched and collapsed ruin, a shadowy body of strange spirits was diligently busy as usual. The sweaty ones trying to unload goods, the ones in aprons getting up to build a fire and cook, the ones yawning and stretching out to dismantle shop doors... and more guys wandering the streets, smiling at each other and saying good morning, as if everything was still warm and welcoming.

When they saw the three Grim, they all had to duck away in silence, peeking around corners and through doorways, as if they thought the three wizards were strange visitors who had accidentally wandered in here.

"Let's go!"

Grim scanned the town one last time and left straight away without shaking his head and sighing.

There were too many secrets in the position, and even with the power and wisdom of the witches, they might not be able to penetrate all the unknowns. And his battle with the dark witch Shani, apparently due to some kind of marriage coincidence, had hardened this human town into a haunted house.

Normally, Grim might have been interested in staying here for a while to study the mysteries of the spirits and the formation mechanism of the ghostly creatures. Unfortunately, this was a dangerous off-world after all, and he still had heavy responsibilities, so he would have to just walk away.

...........

Regency Gardens, Floating City.

Lucia was walking lonely on the moonlit white stone pathway.

Originally, this was the crucial time for the arcane apprentices to seize the time to study and research in order to try to pass the arcane exams.

Usually, there were groups of Arcane Apprentices wandering around inside the Arcane Garden here.

They either covered their faces with books, lying on top of the jade white railings reciting those baffling magic spells, or circled around the arcane fountain, memorizing the brain-busting arcane formulas over and over again, or simply went to the spell pool to complete their arcane routine for the day.......

But now, this is no longer possible to see!

Ever since that damned retreat plan had been secretly and rapidly circulated within Floating Sky City, the entire Olympic Academy had become a mess, giving people an extraordinarily bizarre feeling of the present day.

The figure of the apprentice inside the Olympic Academy became fewer and fewer.

Lucia walked for half a day, but she didn't see many apprentice figures. Even the ones that she occasionally met were like her, carrying books in their arms and walking in a hurry with a sad look on their faces.

Hurriedly walking through the Hall of Mysteries and down the empty winding corridors, Lucia quickly walked inside the open-air Hall of Learning.

This was the place where arcane apprentices like her listened to the public lessons of the arcane masters.

The surface of the Hall of Learning was open-air, but above it lingered a transparent wall of arcane magic. Whenever it rained, while watching the rain ripples bloom and fall on the wall, and listening to the arcane masters explain the various arcane formulas and principles, the strange feeling of the reality of the world opening up in front of you was simply wonderful.

Today's public lesson was the development of the arcane empire as told by the 2nd Ring Arcane Master, His Excellency Brown himself.

This kind of course was also Lucia's favorite, so even though she knew that the current situation was not good, she still ran here regardless.

There was still a quarter of an hour before the start of the class, and only three or five people were sitting scatteredly inside the Hall of Learning that could accommodate thousands of people. They were both male and female, all of them young, and like Lucia, all of them belonged to the young apprentices who were born with a passion for the arcane arts.

When Lucia found a seat in the front row, it wasn't long before the Brown Austrian, who was not very tall and had slightly balding hair and a pair of gold tortoiseshell glasses on his nose, walked in.

Looking at the sparse silhouette of people in the hall, the Brown Austrian sighed softly and unnoticed. Quickly adjusting his mood, he stood on the Truth Podium and used his thick, deep voice to restrain himself from recounting the history of the development of the entire Arcane Empire over the past ten thousand years.

Such history had already been read countless times by the arcane apprentices through books and browsing through the Retainer Crystal. However, when a real Occultist with an irrefutable thick voice recounted this history once again, and brought up a piece of extremely valuable historical images to prove it, the passion within the several Occult apprentices present was once again ignited.

One by one, they listened with blushing faces, their blood boiling with desire to be able to die in place of those courageous arcane masters, just to be able to have their names appear in that glorious and magnificent chapter of history.

The five-hour public class was soon over.

It was only when the Brown Orator announced the end of the class in a hoarse voice that he lowered his head and slowly and carefully sorted out the arcane props he had brought with him.

Lucia did not leave, but slowly stung near the Truth Podium.

Those few arcane apprentices also silently gathered around.

"Mentor, has the Arcane Empire really abandoned us?"

The crowd was silent for a moment, but finally one of the male apprentices asked the question with a blush on his face.

The Brown Auror's hand trembled lightly and did not look up, nor did he speak.

"Mentor, thank you for this time of instruction. My family has urged me to return, and this...this is no longer a safe enough place. I..." the male apprentice spoke incoherently, to the point where he didn't even know what he was saying.

Finally, he stopped talking, bowed deeply at the Brown Olympian, turned around and flew away. And the arcane apprentices all sighed and left with the same bow.

"Mentor, I won't leave... I'll continue to study the arcane arts with you!" Lucia bit her lip tightly, almost biting blood with the force of her effort.

The Bron O'Warlock now finally lifted his head, his tortoiseshell glasses a mist of water.

"Leave, Lucia! The tree of the Austrian Empire is about to fall, and the most important thing you need to do now is to get as far away from here as possible. That way... you might be able to leave a seed of the Arcane in the future for the Morian Plane. Leave, do as I say, and leave, Lucia..."

In the end, the aged Olympian finally sobbed.
