Age of Adepts

Chapter 1113 - Erratic Warfare

The line has been breached!

What this brought to Floating Sky City wasn't just the holes in the defensive line, but also the entire battle situation that was out of control.

Today's battle wasn't really an offensive or defensive battle to be won by annihilating the opponent's living force, but rather a battle of killing.

The alienated beasts that were eager to break through the defensive line were like a pack of hungry wolves, they didn't have that much effort and energy to tangle with the shepherds and fight. Once they found a loophole in the sheepfold, they would swarm in and unleash their viciousness and cruelty on the shivering lambs.

Who are the lambs?

Naturally the Olympian apprentices who were numerous and lacked sufficient strength to protect themselves!

The aberrant beasts that had penetrated the defensive line still had to break through the numerous arcane towers.

If it were a group of attackers with a little more sense, they would naturally have to pull out these spell towers that were scattered one by one along their paths in order to reduce the casualties of their team. But this herd of alienated beasts obviously couldn't be estimated by normal common sense.

There was no thought of attacking a city or seizing a flag in their minds, only bloodshed and sweet souls filled their minds. Therefore, the swarm of alienated beasts swarmed here, forcing them to pave a blood road from the narrow and rugged arcane tower to the inner ring of the Floating Sky City.

At this point, the alienated beasts no longer had any intention of fighting the cold and hard arcane towers, but rushed into one arcane facility after another, using their terrifying numbers and strong individual strength to grind out a blood path, frantically slaughtering and harvesting the lives and souls of the middle and low level arcane masters and apprentices.

Grim and the other three were not interested in helping the evil hooves continue the fight, so they broke into the inner ring with this 'torrent' and began to enter a frantic scavenging mode.

At this point, no one would gather together and affect their time to scavenge and plunder for resources and knowledge.

Thus, it was only natural for the three witches to separate!

Grim exited his Flame Giant form and reverted back to his human form, hidden under a layer of golden flame tendrils, leisurely following behind a group of dissimilar beasts, continuing to advance towards the inner ring of Floating Sky City.

Along the way, there had also been a number of oddly shaped arcane facilities, and a good number of arcane scents could be detected inside. However, Grim ignored them as if he hadn't seen them at all, advancing straightforwardly towards the particularly tall arcane palace in the Floating City's inner ring.

Since he had come to this arcane world, he would simply be sorry for the few times he had been born and died some time ago if he didn't scavenge some necessary knowledge and resources. And within the Floating Sky City, where was the most likely place to store that profound arcane knowledge?

The central and most striking one, of course, the arcane palace!

Thus, relying on the stealthy ability of the Law Flame, Grim broke through a tight cordon of arcane towers, passing by an arcane facility that resembled a library, laboratory, or the like. He even had the leisure to stop at certain places and watch as a group of arcane masters commanded a large number of arcane puppets to make their way to the front lines.

These Arcane Puppets were very new....

On them, Grim even saw traces of rough construction and rush work.

From this, it could be seen that the defensive power of the floating city he was in had been squeezed to a certain limit and was being overloaded. This was definitely going to be good news for Grim.

The Floating Sky City's power overload was so obvious and not like some sort of disguise, which meant that it was unlikely that it would encounter the opponent's deadly trap in the next battle and breakthrough.

And that, too, was Grim's only concern!

...................

Buildings were being knocked down one by one.

The sky was filled with strange monsters with black feathered wings and crocodile heads.

They whistled harshly, weaving in and out of the Tower's bright energy rays.

Whenever they saw an arcane master or apprentice, they swooped down with a sharp whistle, grabbing an enemy into the sky in a violent explosion before tearing it into bloody strips of flesh to be eaten alive in a burst of you and me.

Above the ground, all sorts of strange black and red aberrations roamed about, and outside of almost every arcane building, large groups of monsters gathered around. After tearing and ripping apart the arcane puppets used for defense, they broke into them, and all sorts of heart-rending screams of terror were soon heard from inside.

Only these screams would soon come to an abrupt end, followed by all sorts of ghastly sounds of chattering and gobbling.

Grim was taking a leisurely stroll between a battlefield and a slaughterhouse.

He could see very clearly that a transparent blue spot of light was floating out from all over the Floating City, circling slightly in the air before slowly drifting towards the location of the Evil Hoof's breath.

It was unknown what kind of tactics that Evil Hoof had used to cut off the path for these souls to return to the Soul Mother River. However, it could be faintly guessed that it must be related to the use of rule power. Otherwise, Grim couldn't imagine what kind of sorcery or spell had such a powerful power that could interfere with the operation of the rules of the bits of a large region.

According to the agreement, all these harvested life energies and souls belonged to the Evil Hoof. Therefore, Grim only silently observed for a moment and did not attempt to intercept any of the arcane spellcasters' souls.

Both Holly Witch and Kew Lisa had run 'loose'!

When they arrived here, those who weren't busy scavenging for resources and treasures were fools.

Although the three of them had formed a squad, but on this floating city that was filled with treasures, no one wanted to follow behind another strong man and eat some scraps. Therefore, Grim was not surprised in the slightest at their departure.

Only, Grim knew in his heart that their actions were undoubtedly not wise.

After all, at this time in Floating Sky City, apart from those ordinary arcane masters, there was also a five-ringed great arcane master. But what really made Grim feel wary wasn't this Grand Arcane Master named Furilla, but another terrifying enemy, that calamity little lord Evil Hoof!

After mutually working together to storm the Floating Sky City, the relationship between the positions of the two sides had changed drastically.

That Evil Hoof's words about working together to deal with the 5 Ringed Great Occultists could be true or false.

Perhaps in that Evil Hoof's eyes, a few scattered Level 4 Sorcerers would be easier to hunt than a 5 Ring Great Orb!

Therefore, after breaking up with Holly Witch and Qiu Lisa, Grim had remained stealthy, wandering and travelling above the battlefield, and had not gone out to *take* any resources or treasures. In order to prevent that evil hoof from knowing his location, so as not to trigger some unnecessary covetousness.

A cross defile that led to the Inner Ring Arcane Hall.

Three 4 Ring Arcane Masters were standing in a zigzag shape, with a circle of Arcane Puppets of various forms piled up on the periphery, silently guarding this place. Opposite them, hundreds of differentiated beasts were launching wave after wave of swift attacks.

The layers of thickly stacked corpses on the outskirts of the battlefield were already a clear indication of the intensity and bloodshed of the battle here.

The three magicians were surrounded by a spell pool that was ten meters in diameter, its walls made of fluorescent-white grey hemp stone, and the purest arcane energy flowing from it. The four walls of the spell pool are painted with a variety of strange patterns and arcane runes, they are from time to time and the arcane energy within the pool of light and vibration, overflowing a brilliant arcane light.

It had to be said that the spell pool was also one of the greatest arcane inventions of the Arcane Empire!

Don't look at the unassuming appearance of this spell pool, but it was one of the most closely guarded hubs of security in the entire Floating Sky City.

Usually, the thousands of arcane masters and apprentices in Floating Sky City would come to this spell pool to meditate during their free time, storing the arcane models that they had gathered some of their spiritual energy in the spell pool. This way, as long as they were still within the arcane secret net, they could call up their normally stored arcane models from the spell pool anytime and anywhere by virtue of their authority.

Moreover, within certain limits, the Occult Secret Network also allowed them to borrow or overdraft a portion of their Arcane Models!

This also meant that once they stepped onto the battlefield, the arcane masters, who were pinned in the arcane dense net, could invoke the higher-grade arcane models with minimal mental energy expenditure, and they were instantaneous.

Therefore, with their backs to the spell pools, the three arcane masters were able to excite a terrifyingly powerful and swiftly cast high level arcane spell with every swing of the arcane scepter in their hands*. Thanks to their constant support of high-grade arcane spells, the outlying arcane puppets were able to resist the frantic siege of hundreds of alien beasts with such a small number of them.

However, at the moment when the battle was at its fiercest and the fighting was at its most ferocious, the Floating City Woodlands trembled, and the arcane barriers floating on the major arcane towers and facility buildings shook a few times before inexplicably disappearing.

The spell pool that was guarded by the three 4-ringed arcane masters also blossomed into a huge crack on the wall of the pool amidst a strange clicking sound. Massive amounts of arcane energy spewed out from the crack, creating a beautiful magical rainbow above the spell pool.

Looking around the entire Floating City, the area in trouble wasn't just theirs, but all the arcane towers and spell pools had collapsed at the same moment.

Such a terrifying sight immediately caused the faces of those 4-ringed arcane masters to change abruptly, and one of them even cried out in alarm.

"Damn it... it's the Energy Secret Core where something happened!"

The Energy Dense Core was also the energy center of the Floating City, and if something happened there, the entire Floating City's arcane energy supply would have major problems.

Lightly, like now, the arcane buildings everywhere would lose their energy supply, thus losing their basic functions. In the worst case, like the few floating cities that were knocked out of the sky, the entire city would lose its ability to levitate and eventually crash to the ground.

So once they perceived the disappearance of the Arcane Barrier, the few Arcane Masters present couldn't help but panic a bit.

Without the Arcane Barrier, without the mana pool, without the spell pool, what did this make them use to defend against the enemies that were constantly far away?

While they were in a slight trance, a few fierce ground spikes rose from underneath them and stormed towards them.
