Age of Adepts

Chapter 1285 - Life of a Grey Rat

"You go home first, there's no fighting here for you..."

Hovering above the dark, lightless night sky, Sparrow threw down a light word and a fierce stab down into the sky.

The icy night breeze drew rapidly against the smooth lines of the body, and the short, fine, soft fur on the body was dancing rapidly. Sparrow's transformed vampire bat disappeared in a few turns in mid-air, never to be found again.

Suddenly feeling a sudden chill, Velia hurriedly flapped her bat wings and turned around to fly away.

The battle in the manor was still going on.

The vampires who had come to attack were clearly at a disadvantage, and were retreating while fighting. In the darkness of the night their ranks had been broken up and were rushing around inside the manor, also transmitting the turmoil to every corner of the manor.

Six witches wearing the Denel family insignia were chasing a vampire squad with their witch beasts, and as they passed by a tall old tree, a white arm reached out from the darkness, pulling the last witch behind the tree into the darkness.

Due to her swift and colorless movements, the other sorcerers, who were concentrating on the pursuit of their prey, did not even notice that they were missing a companion.

In the shadow of the ancient tree, before the captive wizard knew what was happening, a slender figure stuck up to him, and two sharp, hollow, blood-sucking fangs pierced into his neck.

It was only a moment later that Ralph the Sorcerer stopped his trembling and stood firm once more.

"Go to the third floor and lead me to that Annetol!" With a whispered command, Sparrow transformed into a tiny vampire bat once again and pounced on Ralph, moving expertly to get inside his sleeve.

"Yes!" Ralph replied respectfully.

His head rose as he stepped out of the shadow of the ancient tree, his eyes red and his face pale to the bone as he could be seen faintly through the dim light.

He flipped up the collar of his robe and uniform to cover the tiny wound on his neck, and without hesitation, he turned towards the three-story building.

Even though he was in the middle of a fierce battle, the security around the small building still hadn't slackened at all.

A small team of strange witches in standardized white armor guarded the small building, they were both male and female and had different age spans, but everyone had a strange logo of Misty Mountain on their left shoulder clothing.

It was a large black mountain shrouded in white mist...a strange shape, and even with Sparrow's knowledge, he had never seen such a logo before.

"This is the logo of Marilyn Mona-sama's Misty Garden Troop, they belong to Mona-sama's direct wizard troop, what kind of strange abilities they all have I don't know..." while walking with his head held high to the few who were guarding the gate In front of the wizard, Ralph communicated with Sparrow, who was hiding in his arms, while using a special mind link.

"Who are you? Why did you come here?" A male sorcerer stepped forward to block Ralph, his vigilant look not relaxed in the slightest because the other party was 'one of us'.

"I'm Ralph from the 7th Sorcerer Squad, and I have extremely important information to report to Lord Mona immediately, so pass it along!"

"At this time..." the male sorcerer hesitated and said, "At this time Lord Mona is definitely still in deep meditation and won't see anyone easily! Just give us any information and items you have!"

"It was our captain who told me to return, this information is so important that it must be handed over to Mona-sama herself!"

It seemed that Ralph's determination had forced the male wizard to make a concession.

He returned and ordered, "Jasnah, you take him to the first floor guest room and wait. If the lord wakes up, pass the message up at the first opportunity!"

"Yes!" A young girl in leather armor and boots, with short brown hair, nodded in agreement and led Ralph into the small building.

As soon as he entered the building, Ralph could feel as if he had just passed through a layer of transparent light film, and there was a completely different atmosphere inside and outside the building.

Facing the front door was a wide, old wooden staircase that led to the second floor. To the left and right were the dining room and small meeting rooms, with some small wooden huts in the corners for the servants to rest.

The second and third floors had been taken over by that Mona-sama, and all the low and middle-ranked wizards could only succumb to the servants' rooms on the first floor. Not a single sorcerer dared to complain about such 'unfair' treatment.

"Come with me! You can't move a single step here, or you might trigger the witchcraft ban. Once you disturb Lord Mona's meditation, neither you nor I can afford the consequences..." the short-haired girl did act quite enthusiastic, leading Ralph to the left side of the first floor.

"You stalk this little guy, I'll go to the second floor!" Sparrow gave a brief explanation to Ralph with his mental link, quietly climbed out of his robed feet, transformed into a strange black-haired, red-eyed mouse, and gently slipped up the staircase that led to the second floor.

Sparrow, from the Faen Side, was once a young and beautiful elf, a druid by profession, an eccentric profession that specializes in animal shape-shifting. And after being transformed into a blood elf by Mary, she was brought back to the wizarding world and grew into the current 'shapeshifter'.

And she was also the only one among all the druids who didn't lose her original profession skills after receiving the blood elf transformation. It was just that the Druid's Wild Transformation and the Blood Elf's Blood Sucking Ability didn't match up that well, so her battle power increase was especially difficult.

Sparrow's transformed red-eyed mouse quickly climbed up the ladder, dodging a spot that exuded a slight magical scent and avoiding a strange sorcery rune, and it soon arrived at the entrance to the second floor.

Without hesitation, the Sparrow turned to the right hallway and crawled down the red-painted wooden floor towards one end of the corridor. As it crawled, the fur on its body took on an anthropomorphic color like that of a chameleon, and with its tiny size, the chances of enemies being able to spot it were slim to none.

The right corridor was staggered with five rooms, and at the entrance of one of them lurked an exceptionally large Multi-Eye Monster, meticulously guarding it.

The many-eyed monster was a kind of witch beast concocted by the shamans based on the Eye Demon. They have a chunky, fleshy body with more than a dozen arm-thick fleshy tentacles, the ends of which are open with strange eyes.

They were also able to emit multi-property magic rays and strange cursed auras from the dozen or so eye stalks just like Eye Demons. Moreover, the surface of their eye stalks was covered with a fine layer of scaly armor, which was tough yet flexible, and was more than enough to act as a whip in melee combat.

The only drawback of this kind of witch beast was probably that their legs and feet were too short, and their movement speed was ridiculously slow. Therefore, most wizards used them as fixed-point watchdogs.

At this time, this Multi-eyed Monster was also lying down on the floor resting in boredom, with only three of the twelve eye stalks at the top of its body raised high, constantly sweeping the entire corridor, and the rest were drooping down as well.

And within the wooden door behind it, two groups of not-so-dense life could be vaguely perceived. One of them was an ordinary person, and the other one carried a hidden elemental fluctuation and seemed to be a low-ranked sorcerer.

This wasn't a wizard tower after all, and the wooden door was just an ordinary wooden door that didn't have the function of isolating external perception. Otherwise, it was impossible for Sparrow to perceive the information within the room so easily.

This was probably the place where that Antoinette was being held!

Sparrow didn't dare approach the polymorph.

She knew very well that the eyeballs at the end of this polymorph's eye stalk also had the ability to recognize invisibility and elemental perception. Fortunately, she was using shapeshifting and colorimetry, which didn't create additional magical fluctuations, otherwise, she would probably have been perceived the moment she stepped into the corridor.

Sparrow huddled in the corner of the corridor's stone wall bump, using the shadows to cover his body, and began to cautiously give off an idiosyncratic scent.

Ambition called!

It is an animal summoning ability unique to druids.

However, most druids used it to summon animal companions, but it was rare for a druid to use it to lure a small animal like Sparrow.

A few moments later, a strange rustling noise was suddenly heard in another dark corner of the corridor.

A small mouse with thin whiskers poked its nose out of the darkness, gently sniffing the air for something. And its appearance had naturally attracted the attention of the many-eyed monster.

Sparrow was able to use shape-shifting and colorimetry to conceal his shape and fade his scent, but this ordinary mouse didn't have that ability. And even if its movement was tiny, it was as dazzling as the sun in the night in front of a polymorph with 2nd rank strength.

The eye stalks that were draped on its sides couldn't help but rise up, while the eye stalks that were already towering over it dropped their direction and stared at the little one that was hesitating between darkness and light.

Although it detected the strange call that made it restless, the gray-skinned rat could also sense the dangerous scent beyond the darkness that made it fearful.

Ever since a group of strange humans had entered the small building, all the grey-skinned rats had hid back in their dens in fear, not daring to come out to feed and move. This suffering had been going on for 7 days while they were all starving, yet they still didn't dare to take a step out of their nest.

They could sense that the outside was filled with a terrifying smell of death, and their strong danger instincts suppressed their instinctive impulses, which allowed them to survive until now.

But now, when that strange summoning power appeared, this grey-skinned rat finally couldn't hold back anymore. It quietly exited the nest and arrived at this once incomparably familiar space of activity. With just one more step forward, it left the shroud of darkness and entered the range enveloped by the dim candlelight.

And right here, it hesitated, it hesitated....

One foot was life, one foot was death, and its inferior intelligence apparently couldn't ponder such a complex feeling yet.

Finally, unable to hold back its inner agitation, the grey-skinned rat rushed out of the shadows headlong!
