Chapter 414 - 217: Stepping on the Right Foot with the Left and Spiraling into the Sky
The people from the Church had finally left. They were probably on their way to deal with the impending Doomsday in the Secret Sea.
Lu Cang glanced to his side. "Kumironi, how many people do you think the Church can save?"
Kumironi replied, "I’m not sure either..."
"But the Life Church is dedicated to preserving life. I imagine they’ll do everything they can to save as many people as possible."
The Life Church has always been dedicated to saving lives and healing the wounded.
’So, my impression of the Life Church is quite positive,’ Lu Cang thought. ’At least, I haven’t yet discovered any particularly dark or sordid aspects to it.’
’While there were internal power struggles, it was still far better than the other Churches.’
SWOOSH—
A spatial fluctuation rippled through the air, and Izparut appeared beside Lu Cang.
’Iz used Space Magic to move.’
’After becoming a Level 4 Mage and gaining the ability to see Spatial Elements, I finally understand how Izparut gets around.’
’It’s true—with every new Level, you can see new things.’
"Hey, you’re finally back."
Izparut’s tone was light.
"You just left a few messages and took off. Kumironi was actually really worried about you, you know."
Lu Cang looked at Kumironi.
’I couldn’t be sure how long I’d be gone.’
’After all, every Future Preview could lead to new discoveries.’
’It’s like restarting a game, exploring new areas over and over. There’s no guarantee I won’t find something new that takes up more time.’
’It feels like I can predict the future, but at the same time, not completely.’
"Kumironi, I’m sorry..."
Lu Cang said, "To better verify the prophecy, I had to go to other places. That way, I can see the trajectory of Destiny more clearly."
Lu Cang was completely making it up, but he said it without batting an eye.
Kumironi smiled. "It’s alright. I was more worried that you might have run into danger."
SIGH—
’Kumironi, you’re so kind.’
’It makes what I have to do seem rather dark and sordid in comparison.’
Lu Cang turned back to Iz. "Master Iz, have you had any thoughts about the Doomsday in the Secret Sea?"
Izparut began, "Yes, I’ve had a few ideas. Those translated ancient Space Magic Books you gave me provided a lot of inspiration."
"Random Teleportation Magic can send one person to a random location."
"If I expand the spell’s range and treat a group of people as a single entity, I could perform a group random teleportation, couldn’t I?"
"And because they’re being treated as one unit, the entire group would land in the same spot."
"If I were to expand the range even further..." Izparut’s voice was filled with delight.
"Perhaps I could teleport the entire Secret Sea away!"
Lu Cang had been listening calmly, but when he heard Iz talk about teleporting the entire Secret Sea, the corner of his mouth couldn’t help but twitch.
’Iz, what on earth are you talking about?’
’That’s not what happened in the Future Preview.’
’But... I’m used to it. Izparut belongs to the Inspiration Sect; once he sees or thinks of something, it dramatically alters his line of thinking.’
’Iz often has these flashes of inspiration.’
’That’s why, even in the Future Previews,’
’it’s difficult for me to know exactly what Izparut will say or think.’
"Master Iz, teleporting the entire Secret Sea away... wouldn’t that be too difficult? Is it really possible?"
Iz shook his head calmly. "A Level 8 Mage probably could."
Lu Cang replied, "So that means... you can’t do it now."
Izparut paused. His expression was very serious, but he answered with complete frankness, "That’s right. I can’t."
"Actually, if I really wanted to, I could advance to a Level 7 Mage right now, maybe even all the way to Level 8."
"But I won’t do that..."
Iz glanced at Kumironi, who was standing beside him.
"Because if I did that, I would never be able to step into the realm of a Level 9 Mage."
Lu Cang was stunned by Izparut’s statement.
’Why would Iz say that?’
’He could have just said he couldn’t do it. He could have just said he wasn’t able to level up yet.’
’But instead, he said he really *could* reach Level 8 and save the entire Secret Sea.’
’It’s just... for the sake of reaching Level 9, he’s choosing not to.’
"Iz, if other people heard what you just said,"
"you’d probably be condemned."
Iz said, "Mm, I know."
Iz crouched down and patted Lu Cang’s shoulder. "What I mean is... your master is a selfish person, too. So you don’t need to be troubled by things that are beyond your power."
"We might be able to save many people, but we can’t save everyone in the world."
"Being able to foresee Destiny is probably more of a curse than a blessing."
"So, I hope that no matter what happens in the future, you won’t blame yourself."
Lu Cang met Iz’s gaze.
"Iz..."
’Was he saying all this just to comfort me?’
’Lately, I’ve really been feeling this sense of disconnect, as if I’m constantly shifting between the future and the present. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, or what role I’m supposed to play.’
’To save people, or to turn a blind eye?’
’Logically, I should be selfish and protect myself, but emotionally, I’m still struggling with it.’
Iz patted Lu Cang’s shoulder. "Haha, I just figured you might be troubled by all this, so I wanted to give you a heads-up."
