Almark – Northern Sword, Southern Wand
Magic Flute
Strange sounds like whistles echoing in the night forest. The northerners call that noise the "Forest Magic Flute."
Almark doesn't even know what the sound is coming from. My father said, "It's the whistle of the Reaper," and the magician of the journey said, "It's the sound of darkness taking shape." But perhaps no one knows for sure.
However, at night, when the darkness of the forest reaches a certain level, this noise is rarely heard, as people in the north know, even children.
And that's a sign of a strange monster coming from the back of the forest.
The quality is completely different from ordinary monsters lurking in the woods.
For example, Bolapa, a two-headed monster with black hair all over his body.
For example, Durgan, a beast whose upside down hair is as sharp as a blade.
For example, Malmdan, a magician who manipulates strange magic with a scaled body.
We don't know the ecology, we don't know the purpose of attacking people.
What is clear is that they are aggressively hostile to people. And it's terribly strong.
Even mercenaries who have been at war hesitate to fight them.
Almark met several times, but it was a terrible experience.
If you remember the ugly sounds that they still make, or the language of another world, your whole body will grow hairy.
It is as if man's fear of darkness has been embodied. As long as they kill, they disappear in the morning without warning.
I hear that some mercenary regiments were destroyed overnight when we ran into a large group of them unfortunately.
But certainly, it was in the northern forest. I don't remember hearing that sound in the Night Forest since I crossed the Menover Strait to Nakahara.
Almark told Dr. Fier about the sound he heard in the woods the day after Liluti's incident. Last night, if they had really come out of the woods, they wouldn't have been able to protect Lilty from the all-waisted Almark.
Fear told me to think about what was going on, and to teach students not to go into the woods at night.
Almark himself didn't actually see monsters coming out. There is no certainty that the sound was the same as the northern whistle. I couldn't ask for more.
However, since that day, in addition to meditation, Almark's daily routine after returning to his room has been carefully cared for by his favorite dagger.
