Chapter 1431 - 374: Requiem XXIV_2
Somehow.
For the first time, she felt that a serious flaw might have been embedded in her meticulous plan, and at that moment she suddenly thought of Viscount Beigening, who was suddenly discovered by the Harpy.
It was as if it was an intuition or a flash of insight that made her roar, "Stop that girl, don’t let her get near the statue!"
The cultists on the outermost edge were the first to react.
However, these people, who were labeled as madmen and scoundrels by the common folk, turned around nervously only to see a girl running with her skirt held up. Everyone couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief—some even secretly blamed Medusa Laismek for making a fuss over nothing.
Who knows where this lost kitten came from.
The cultist beside stopped instinctively and watched leisurely as his companion walked up alone to stop the girl, all showing expressions as if they were watching an interesting play.
But they were about to regret it.
"Romantic, deal with the person on the left first." White Mist was calm as a machine, lacking combat ability, therefore transforming into a bowtie tied around Miss Merchant’s neck. Yet, as a Contracted Spirit, she could still observe the surroundings without hindrance even in such a form.
Miss Merchant took out a small cage and pointed at the cultist blocking her: "Bird in a cage, who gave you wings to break free of binding?"
A flash of light, and the cultist intending to stop her disappeared. Everyone could see the unfortunate guy’s figure inside the girl’s cage.
"Witch!" Someone immediately screamed.
"Careful, she’s a witch!" The cultists finally reacted, but it was a little too late. Romantic had already passed through the spot where that person originally stood. Because the others were unprepared, it instead allowed Miss Merchant to dart through the first line of defense.
"Romantic, that little noble next to the statue."
Only then did the cultists turn around in pursuit, but Miss Merchant had already raised her head, took out a small wax figure, and chanted:
"King’s move!"
At the next moment, she appeared where the little noble originally stood, while conversely, the guy swapped positions with her. Just then, a cultist lunged forward, and the somewhat overweight noble screamed as he was pinned below.
Miss Merchant was already close to the statue, then she saw the ladder, and the bad guy she recognized as Marquis You Xi was quickly climbing upward.
Romantic immediately lifted her skirt and gave chase.
"Too slow, use a spell!" White Mist watched closely, calmly calculating the distance between them.
"I’m out of spells, White Mist." Miss Merchant replied breathlessly, somewhat aggrieved. She chased ahead You Xi, with the cultists having gotten back up and pursued her again. The three groups spiraled upwards along the ladder, swiftly approaching the statue’s chest.
At this point, Medusa Laismek and Minotaur Lord finally arrived at the base of the statue.
"Sketa, go up!" Laismek ordered.
The Minotaur Lord Sketa let out a loud roar, pounded his chest, and charged forward, jumping onto the scaffold and then leaping, landing right in front of Romantic and White Mist.
"Watch out above." White Mist warned leisurely.
"Ah, what do I do?" Romantic also saw Sketa descending from the sky, startled, as if she never considered the enemy would catch up when she dashed out.
"Use the Brittleness Potion."
"But we might fall too."
"Doesn’t matter now!"
The Minotaur Lord crashed onto the scaffold in front, making the entire ladder shake. Romantic quickly clung to the statue, rummaged through her bag for a bottle, and threw it onto the plank.
The bottle shattered, and the liquid inside immediately flowed, quickly absorbing into the wooden plank in the rain, turning it white and gray. Unfortunately, the innately dense Minotaur Lord completely missed this detail. It took a step forward to grab Miss Merchant but ended up crashing through the plank and falling.
The potion’s effect was remarkably strong, and in an instant, the entire ladder became wobbly, seemingly ready to collapse at any moment.
"Romantic, use the Magic Rope!"
Miss Merchant swayed mid-air while pulling out the rope previously used to bind Viscount Beigening from her bag. She threw it up forcefully, and the rope came alive like a snake, wrapping around the statue’s neck and fastening there.
At the same moment, the ladder collapsed with a crash, leaving Romantic hanging mid-air, holding onto the rope.
"Rope, rope, shorten!" she shouted.
The shortening rope pulled her towards the statue’s neck, but before that, the foremost Marquis You Xi had already climbed into the Titan statue’s ear. Just before entering, he looked down and mockingly glanced at Romantic.
He probably recognized Miss Merchant’s identity.
Medusa Laismek looked annoyingly at Sketa falling down. She couldn’t spare a thought for her companion’s survival, quickly took out a longbow, and shot an arrow at Romantic’s rope. She originally intended to sever the rope but didn’t expect it to remain intact. Realizing immediately that the rope might be extraordinary, she aimed another arrow directly at Romantic.
This arrow was meant for Romantic’s heart, but Miss Merchant didn’t hold steady and nearly slipped off the rope. As a result, the arrow hit her shoulder.
"Ah, it hurts..."
Miss Merchant felt tears well up from the pain, her grip loosened, nearly falling off the rope. Fortunately, White Mist immediately transformed into a ribbon to bind her hand to the rope, narrowly preventing her descent.
"Be careful." White Mist admonished.
Laismek frowned at the misfired arrow, raised the bow to shoot again, but at this moment, the entire Titan statue activated, suddenly transforming into a blue electric light soaring into the sky. Lady Medusa paused for a moment in surprise, and upon regaining focus, saw no trace of the Titan statue or the witch girl.
She hesitated briefly, sighed, and lowered her bow.
"Are you alright, Sketa?"
Turning her head, she looked at the Minotaur Lord lying on the ground. Sketa hurriedly shook his head, being inherently tough and resilient, he was fine, though he crushed several cultists when he fell, cluelessly wondering if Unity of All Things would trouble them for it.
For some reason, she suddenly felt a bit fatigued, as if weary of this kind of life. Unable to help shaking her head, she sighed once more.
