Chapter 372 - 241: A Thank-You Gift, Dragon Knight
’How thoughtful. Truly thoughtful.’
’Looks like the casino boss really put some thought into this gift, even investigating my height and build.’ He patted the leather-wrapped steering wheel, satisfied. ’Three million USD. This "private gift" is certainly a sincere one.’
But appreciation aside, a very practical problem immediately presented itself to Li Wei.
"Brother Haisheng, you haven’t turned in for the night, have you?" Li Wei called Chen Haisheng.
"Not yet, Boss. I just dropped Mr. Don Quixote home. I’m in the underground garage now," Chen Haisheng said from the other end of the line.
"Perfect. I need you to move the 911 for me," Li Wei said. "I’m out of parking spots, and I need to drive another car back."
"No problem, Boss. Leave it to me," Chen Haisheng agreed crisply.
After hanging up, Li Wei examined the car closely and realized it didn’t have a conventional gearbox.
Li Wei had to search "how to drive a Koenigsegg" on YouTube to learn on the spot.
Someone who had never driven one or hadn’t been trained would have a hard time just getting it to move.
After studying for a bit, Li Wei started the car.
At low speeds, the Koenigsegg was driven by its electric motors, completely eliminating the risk of disturbing the neighbors. It glided out of the garage as smoothly as a ghost lurking in the dead of night.
However, the moment he so much as tapped the accelerator, the 5.0L twin-turbo V8 engine would unleash its ferocious 1,500-plus horsepower, pinning its occupants to their seats like a fighter jet on takeoff.
’Not bad at all,’ Li Wei thought, one hand on the steering wheel, as he glanced at the odometer showing just over 500 kilometers. ’And it’s practically new.’
Just as Li Wei was humming to himself while driving, a call suddenly came in from Chen Haisheng.
"Boss, we have a situation," Chen Haisheng’s voice sounded a little helpless. "The 911’s battery is completely dead. I could only open the door with the mechanical key. It won’t start at all."
Li Wei scratched his chin. It had indeed been a long time since he’d driven it.
The lightweight battery in the newer 911s was quite delicate; if left without starting for too long, it would become deeply discharged.
"It’s fine. There are jumper cables in the trunk of the armored Cadillac Escalade," he said after a moment’s thought. "Start the Cadillac Escalade, hook up the cables to give it a jump, and get the 911 running first."
"Understood," Chen Haisheng said immediately. "I’ll move it and take care of it to free up the parking spot for you."
"Go ahead. Be safe on the road."
After hanging up, Li Wei continued driving the Koenigsegg, smoothly entering the underground garage of Fortress City Apartments to the low rumble of its V8 engine.
He drove to his exclusive parking area with practiced ease. Sure enough, the spot where the 911 had been was now empty, cleared out by Chen Haisheng. Next to it sat his daily drivers, the Cadillac Escalade and the Cullinan, parked quietly.
Li Wei precisely backed the ghost-like Koenigsegg Regera into the spot and cut the engine.
As the engine’s roar died down, absolute silence returned to the cabin.
Li Wei pushed open the futuristic dihedral synchro-helix door, swung his long legs out, and planted his feet firmly on the epoxy floor of the garage.
Just as he pressed the key fob to lock the car, a crisp locking sound chimed, and a familiar translucent notification box suddenly popped up before his eyes:
[Quest: New Progress on the Knight’s Collectionist Habit] (Chapter 83)
[You have acquired a one-in-a-thousand steed.]
If he couldn’t see the quest log, he would have almost forgotten about this quest.
He had triggered this quest, [Knight’s Collectionist Habit], when he first acquired the Cadillac Escalade. It required him to obtain a one-in-a-hundred, a one-in-a-thousand, and a one-in-ten-thousand steed.
He hadn’t even made any progress on it when he bought the Cullinan.
It seemed now that acquiring a one-in-ten-thousand steed might require a price tag in the tens of millions of USD.
Still, Li Wei was quite curious about this [Riding-type Skill]. Unfortunately, he was still a bit reluctant to spend 10 million USD on a car right now.
Besides, at that price point, it wasn’t something you could just buy whenever you wanted. It also depended on whether someone was willing to sell.
Back home, Don Quixote and Lily were already fast asleep.
Li Wei returned to his room, took a shower, and changed into some comfortable loungewear.
However, just as he came out of the shower, he suddenly noticed a slight noise coming from the living room.
From the shadows at the end of the hallway came the sound of extremely faint, yet very regular, footsteps.
Don Quixote had emerged from his room again, his eyes shut tight, his steps steady.
’Sleepwalking again?’ Li Wei raised an eyebrow and walked over. "Good day, Knight Don Quixote."
"Good day, Knight Li Wei," Don Quixote said with his eyes closed. "I can feel it. The storm in the Royal Court is drawing nearer. Can you feel—"
Before he could finish, he suddenly sniffed the air, as if he had caught a scent of something.
"Has your Power advanced again?" He frowned, his eyes still shut. "Why do I smell something else as well?"
Li Wei sniffed his own arms and wrists. They smelled incredible.
"It’s probably from the Magic Potion I took earlier," he said casually. "I happened to get a Magic Potion from an Alchemist."
"Ah! You found that Alchemist!" Don Quixote said happily. "Congratulations! It’s just a pity I wasn’t of much help." (Chapter 205)
"Your knowledge and experience were a great help, Knight Don Quixote," Li Wei offered some pleasantries. "What were you just saying about a storm in the Royal Court?"
"That’s not important, just some trivial matters we’ve already discussed," Don Quixote waved his hand dismissively. "Your business is more important right now. After taking the Magic Potion, what realm have you reached?"
Li Wei thought about it. He had advanced to Silver Knight starting from 3.0 in his attributes. Based on his current stats, he should be approaching the mid-tier of Silver Knight.
"I guess I’m about mid-tier Silver Knight?" he said after a moment’s thought. "But I’m still quite a ways from Golden Knight."
"I see..." Don Quixote circled Li Wei, stroking his beard. "Have you advanced to a Dragon Blood Knight now?"
"That’s right," Li Wei said with a smile. "Do you remember when I bathed in Dragon Blood before?"
"Right... So, are you planning your advancement path now?" Don Quixote asked. "Do you intend to continue advancing toward the powerful Dragon Knight, or will you follow the conventional route?"
"What’s the difference?" If it was possible, Li Wei still hoped to continue advancing as a Dragon Knight. After all, it would give him more attribute points bonuses and other special effects.
He already had fire resistance now. If he could advance through a hidden class again, he might gain even more attribute points.
That was far more attribute points than he could get from grinding quests one by one.
"If you want to advance to a Dragon Knight," Don Quixote mused, "you might need a dragon’s heart. And it has to be the heart of a Gold-rank dragon, not the Earth Dragon we defeated before."
The [Jester’s Skull] said nothing, Don Quixote didn’t offer to lead him to a dragon, and no quest was issued.
Li Wei knew this was a quest he’d have to stumble upon himself. Maybe one day, if he got lucky, he’d trigger it by chance.
For now, even if he got a dragon’s heart, it would be useless. He hadn’t gathered enough attribute points himself yet.
"The other way is to advance along the conventional promotion path of the current Royal Knight Academy," Don Quixote said, shaking his head. "It’s just that your Power and authority will be slightly weaker than a Dragon Knight’s."
"Then I’ll choose Dragon Knight," Li Wei said immediately. "I want greater Power."
"Good!" Don Quixote suddenly shouted, giving Li Wei a Knight’s salute. "A true Knight dares to single-handedly challenge a dragon far stronger than himself. I salute you!"
Li Wei accepted Don Quixote’s salute and waved his hand, saying nothing more.
