American Fortune Life

Chapter 1183: Trends

Traditional newspapers generally face challenges such as readership, declining advertising, declining profitability and declining channels as a result of new media shocks. Traditional media, including The New York Times, have undergone a business model transformation, but have not yet escaped the whirlpool of homogeneous competition.

The financial crisis has exacerbated the already depressing circulation of newspapers.

Five major American newspaper giants, including the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun, and the Chicago Sun Times Media Group, Minneapolis Star, News Chronicle, and Philadelphia Newspapers, are on the verge of bankruptcy.

It seems that Philip Meyer, a senior American news educator, predicted that the newspaper would end up asleep one morning in 2043 and was slowly becoming a reality.

Andy knew Jon Micham had a good reason, and he knew that the cost of paperwork was a huge loss, especially when it was more informative, more page-based, and more expensive than regular newspapers.

It is well known that the appearance of a newspaper requires layering, journalistic writing, review by the relevant supervisor, editorial editing, proofreading and inspection, editor-in-chief's signature, printing and distribution... The human and material resources spent in each section constitute the cost of production of newspapers.

Not to mention, with offices worldwide, circulation has again returned to five million copies of Newsweek, at an affordable cost.

Looks like another sword reform is needed!

Faced with the growing strength of the paper media gone, sadness can be good, anger can be disputed, sitting and waiting for death is never a wise choice.

To be honest, Andy bought the paper media for the simple purpose of speaking and influencing, and according to his growing family, even with these newspapers under his banner, there's no problem at all.

But that's not how it works. Andy's a businessman first, making money first, then thinking about something else.

Newspaper reform has been a great success for Andy's New York Observer newspaper, which, after all, cannot be much simpler to reform than Newsweek.

Nowadays, Observers are more personalized and more luxurious in their private customizations. Although they raise prices and serve smaller groups, they are also more professional. Instead of reducing sales as a result, they have opened up new sales channels, such as

Clubs, leisure centers, personal collection of information materials, etc.

Naturally, Newsweek cannot be reformed in this way. After all, five million copies of the world's sales, although sometimes much remains, are fundamental to voice and influence.

Otherwise, the Four-Star Li family wouldn't pay that much attention to the story in Newsweek.

“Boss, this is the cover and main content of the next, North American and European editions...” Jon Micham was also a little cold-sweated by Andy's somewhat gloomy face and his sharp eyes, handing over the folder in his hand to Big BOSS.

With Andy's growing success, he was gaining momentum, and almost no one was going to focus first on his age, and no one dared to underestimate him because of his youth.

While knowing that Jon can't be blamed for the loss of the newspaper, as one of the few industries that makes him lose money, even if it's more than a million, it's unlikely to give him any good looks.

Taking over the folder, Andy opened it at random, looking back, North America's content was still largely focused on in-depth coverage of the general election and the economic crisis, after all, both of which were of paramount concern to Americans at the moment.

The European version, seeing the cover content, just arrived stunned, but also poked his eyes, his face very unnaturally pulled a few times, a large group of alpacas ran...

“The French Attorney General is unmarried and pregnant, refusing to reveal who the father is."

“Beautiful Dutty had a vague relationship with eight men at the same time before she got pregnant... ”

Datty, now 43, had a failed marriage in her twenties and has been single ever since. Old Zane, Dati was Minister of Justice, attracting widespread attention for her fashionable and sexy outfit.

In addition to rumours with French President Old Sa, it included a television host, a then-Cabinet Minister, a major corporate CEO, the Prime Minister of Spain, Old Sa's brother, the Minister of Desert Justice and the heir to a luxury company.

All right, the French version of the puzzle contest for Dad!

Jon Micham had a cold sweat on his forehead, watched his face change carefully, his mouth pulled from time to time with a big BOSS, and his heart was also desperate, but this exclusive news could increase sales, and he couldn't possibly not publish it.

Whose spearhead is the father of the child after the brilliant boiling shadow on the American side pointed directly at the big BOSS sitting across the street. This story may also attract more attention and tone, but it can sell money!

“Oh, my God, he can play! ”

“Hoo--”

When Jon Micham heard a toned slot from the Big BOSS, watching him pick up the signature of the brush and publish it, his nervous heart finally relaxed and breathed a little turbidity.

“Exclusive?” Andy glanced at Jon and asked.

“Yes, boss, now that the news of the pregnancy has not come to light, a reporter from our newspaper dug up the news after discovering the clue. ”

“Tsk, it's a French woman...” Andy is smiling too. I really admire how French women play. This is the old driver of the 111 bus!

“Notify me that at 2: 30 p.m., a middle-level meeting will be held, and heads of country offices will participate in a videoconference to brainstorm, the theme of which will be to come up with solutions for reversing losses!” Andy looked at Jon Micham and said.

“All right, boss, I'll give you a call right away.” Jon nodded softly, but he was disturbed inside, knowing that if a suitable solution could not be devised, it would be inevitable to lay off staff in order to reduce losses.

Though Andy had just taken over Newsweek and dismantled some of the stations and departments in an introspective fashion, after all, he did not wave the knife to carry out the massacre, but this time it appeared to have escaped.

Watching Jon Micham shake his head with a slight shake of cold eyes, he naturally understood what the old media man, who had worked in the newspaper for decades, thought. Jon didn't want to see his men who had worked together for many years cut off by a bunch of people, in an understandable mood, but Andy would not be merciful.

Though he bought Newsweek for a dollar, he also received all of the newspaper's debts. Andy didn't want to pay for his own debt, he initially streamlined the agency, at least made it look much better on the books, and he was able to pay for his own gains and losses. Naturally, there was no need for large-scale layoffs.

But in this economic environment, let alone the Newsweek newspaper, all companies are trying to save costs, reduce losses and lay off in order to smoothly weather the financial storm.

The afternoon meeting has been going on for more than an hour in an atmosphere of tension and intensity. Faced with many force majeure factors, it is not possible to come up with too many effective solutions. After all, in this economic environment and the downward trend of the paper media, who can come up with gold ideas?

Ultimately, at a meeting where silence and clarity could be heard in the breath of the crowd, Andy faceless spoke out about his decision to lay off.

“Although this is a desperate approach, the Weekly News magazine still has to implement the main thrust of content as a king, without tightening and reducing the quality of content. In order not to lose the position of the source of information, truth, views and trust, this layoff, leading journalists on the front line, editing, printing and publishing are not among the layoffs for the time being, and there are no layoffs in the network department, including the executive, and other departments in half. ”

Andy's words went down, the whole conference room was unusually heavy and bitter, and the managers who were not within the scope of the reduction were not so happy. After all, this time, if the loss situation could not be reversed in the future, it would eventually be their turn to escape that knife.
