Chapter 32: No People, Only Banknotes
As the old saying goes, fortune and misfortune are two sides of the same coin.
Jiang Moli had originally planned to use losing her job to farm a wave of Disdain Points.
Who knew she would take it too far, and word would get back to Gao Jing.
Gao Jing was so furious she didn’t sleep all night.
In her entire life, she had never met anyone as dumb as a pig like Jiang Moli. The girl lost her job before she could even get the seat warm.
She was even angrier at herself for actually believing Jiang Moli’s nonsense, thinking she could really secure a job slot and striking a private deal with her.
That’s why she had shown up first thing in the morning with a group of people to demand an explanation.
To be fair, Gao Jing hadn’t intended to do anything too drastic to Jiang Moli.
As long as Jiang Moli bowed her head in public, admitted she was wrong, and let her vent her anger, the matter would be over.
After all, Jiang Moli’s fiancé was a military officer, and she didn’t want to offend him too badly.
But who knew that not only was Jiang Moli stupid, she was also arrogant and reckless, foolishly picking a fight with the people from their Educated Youth Office.
In all these years, no one had ever dared to openly oppose the Educated Youth Office!
Jiang Moli was the very first.
The cadres from the Educated Youth Office were enraged. They swarmed forward, ready to drag Jiang Moli out for a public shaming.
The situation had escalated far beyond what Gao Jing had expected.
Seeing that Jiang Moli was about to be hauled away by the people from the Educated Youth Office, Jiang Dahai grew frantic. "Wait, take me! Drag me away! I failed to raise my daughter properly! I’m the sinner! I should be the one to repent!"
Watching Jiang Dahai single-handedly block the crowd from the Educated Youth Office, Jiang Moli couldn’t help but feel a little moved.
But being moved was one thing; even her own father couldn’t stand in the way of her grand plan to get rich.
"Old man, get out of the way. I’ll take responsibility for my own actions. I don’t believe they actually dare to drag me away!"
Jiang Dahai wished he could take off his shoe and stuff it in her mouth. "You, shut your mouth!"
The people from the Educated Youth Office were so angry they started to laugh. "See? Huh! She’s one of those who won’t shed a tear until she sees the coffin. In that case, don’t blame us for not holding back! Drag her away!"
"YEAH!!!"
The crowd of onlookers found it all deeply satisfying, clapping and cheering.
That gluttonous, lazy good-for-nothing was finally getting what she deserved!
What a satisfying sight.
『Disdain Points +1+1+1+1+1...』
The system’s counter was spinning so fast it was about to start smoking.
...
Watching Jiang Moli being led away by the Educated Youth Office, Jiang Qing had to dig her nails into her palm to keep from laughing out loud.
’See? I didn’t even have to lift a finger. Jiang Moli is perfectly capable of destroying herself.’
Although Jiang Dahai was anxious, his mind was still clear. He grabbed Jiang Peng and pulled him close. "Quick, go get your brother-in-law!"
Jiang Peng dashed out the door in a flash.
Jiang Qing watched with cold eyes, sneering inwardly.
’If Lu Cheng knew what a stupid thing Jiang Moli did, he’d probably regret having so rashly gotten their marriage certificate yesterday.’
’He might even call off the marriage.’
’It’s a shame the Zhang Family lives in the countryside and doesn’t have a phone. Otherwise, I’d really love for them to see for themselves what a troublemaker Jiang Moli is.’
’Then the Zhang Family would know just how wise of a choice it was for Zhang Jia Ming to pick me over Jiang Moli.’
...
"Isn’t that Jiang Moli? What’d she get into now?"
"She tried to dodge her countryside assignment, and then she stubbornly picked a fight with the people from the Educated Youth Office. So now they’re making an example of her!"
"Serves her right!"
"Totally serves her right! A lazybones like her actually managed to land a military officer. Heaven must be blind."
『Disdain Points +1+1+1+1+1...』
But in Jiang Moli’s eyes, she was basically just picking up free money.
As far as she could see, there were no people—only cold, hard cash!
Everywhere she went, countless bills flooded madly into her wallet.
...
"Did you hear? That Jiang Moli from the machinery factory’s family residential area is in trouble again, again, and again!"
"Oh my god! When did this happen?"
"Just this morning! A ton of people ran over to watch!"
"If I didn’t have to work, I’d go watch too!"
"That Jiang Moli really knows how to ask for it. Whichever family gets stuck with a troublemaker like her will never know a day of peace."
"You can say that again."
Good news never leaves the house, but bad news travels a thousand miles.
The news spread through the streets and alleys as if it had grown wings.
And the Disdain Points shot past the one-thousand mark at a shocking speed.
...
"Thank you for your hard work, comrades. You’ve all come so far just to see me."
"Don’t push, everyone. Please keep in an orderly line. It would be a shame to trample the pretty flowers."
"Whose child is that? Keep an eye on them, don’t let them get lost."
Jiang Moli waved at the crowd of onlookers while also reminding them to be safe and watch their children.
Her relaxed demeanor didn’t make her look like a sinner who had done wrong; instead, she looked like a triumphant hero returning from battle.
When Lu Cheng rushed over and saw this scene, he couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.
He had thought his wife would be a sobbing mess and had been worried sick the whole way there.
’As expected of my wife. Unflustered in the face of crisis, calm and composed. She has the bearing of a Lu Family matriarch.’
If anyone else knew what he was thinking, they would probably roll their eyes so hard they’d see the heavens.
Was this composure?
This was clearly just thick skin!
The group from the Educated Youth Office all had faces pale with rage.
"Jiang Moli, fix your attitude! You’re the one who made a mistake right now. Do you think this is something to be proud of!?"
"I did do something wrong, but aren’t I being punished for it right now?"
"Is this the attitude of someone being punished? Who acts all cheeky and smiley like you?"
"Fine, I won’t smile then."
"And no talking either! Be serious! Fix your attitude!"
Since her goal had already been achieved, Jiang Moli didn’t want to truly piss off the people from the Educated Youth Office, so she shut her mouth.
"Moli!"
The voice sounded a little familiar. Jiang Moli turned her head and immediately spotted Lu Cheng in the crowd.
The man’s tall figure stood out like a crane among chickens. His face was stern and cold, but his eyes were resolute as he squeezed his way toward her.
For a fleeting moment, she had the illusion that if she were a criminal on her way to the execution grounds, Lu Cheng would rescue her without a moment’s hesitation.
"Don’t come over here!"
Jiang Moli didn’t want the man to interfere with her Disdain Point earnings.
But Lu Cheng misunderstood, thinking Jiang Moli didn’t want to drag him down and make him lose face with her.
’Such a considerate and understanding wife. All the more reason I can’t let her suffer alone.’
"Don’t be afraid. I’m here."
Lu Cheng pushed through the crowd even more fiercely, like an unstoppable icebreaker ship heading straight for Jiang Moli.
Jiang Moli was exasperated. ’Don’t come over here!!!’
Before she could shout it out loud, the tall and imposing Lu Cheng was already standing in front of her.
"I’m here. Don’t be afraid. I’ve got you."
Jiang Moli was speechless. "Didn’t I tell you not to come over?"
It was as if Lu Cheng couldn’t hear her. "You look pale. Are you sick?"
’You’re the one who’s sick. Your whole family is sick!’
Jiang Moli was about to roll her eyes when Lu Cheng suddenly raised a hand and chopped the back of her neck.
Before she could react, a dull ache spread from the back of her neck.
"You sneaky bastard..."
She used all her strength to get that one curse out before passing out.
