Chapter 180: Deserted Island Survival 4
Seeing this, Moira Lynch drew her bow and nocked an arrow without the slightest hesitation.
A white, glowing arrow shot out at incredible speed.
Just as the arrow struck its prey, a loud "BANG" from a gunshot echoed in the distance.
Hearing the sound, Moira Lynch instinctively looked in the direction of the gunshot.
Her spiritual power didn’t detect any trace of them, which meant they were still very far away—well outside her detection range.
It seemed her earlier suspicion was correct. She wasn’t the only player on this deserted island. The only reason she hadn’t run into anyone yet was simply due to the vast distance between them.
This also served as indirect proof that the deserted island was truly massive.
Turning back to the deer, she saw that her arrow had pierced it straight through the eye. It had already collapsed and was dead.
She had aimed for the eye to keep the hide intact.
If that gunshot had rung out even a second earlier, Moira Lynch’s arrow would have never hit its mark.
Of course, the deer had also been so engrossed in its meal that it hadn’t even noticed her approaching.
Such carelessness was incredibly dangerous in the wild.
Moira Lynch walked over and stored the lifeless deer in her dimensional space. Butchering it by hand was too time-consuming, so she decided to have the space process the deer directly.
The deer weighed at least eight hundred, if not a thousand, pounds. After removing the hide and inedible parts, she would still be left with several hundred pounds of meat.
With the food situation settled, Moira Lynch noticed the spot the deer had just been licking. A transparent, viscous liquid was slowly oozing out.
The liquid emitted a faint, sweet scent—the exact same one Moira Lynch had smelled earlier.
[Respiration Tree: Secretes a resin that emits a faint fragrance. When applied to the body, it allows one to survive in any harsh environment.
The resin’s fragrance attracts herbivores to lick it.]
After hearing Patience’s introduction, Moira Lynch’s eyes lit up. ’Isn’t this exactly what I need right now?’
Although she had used Earth Soil to transform the soil on three of the Garbage Stars, she had no idea what the environment was like, or if there was even any oxygen.
What if there wasn’t? What if, even after the transformation, the weather on those planets was still incredibly harsh?
With the Respiration Tree, all of those problems could be solved.
Moira Lynch observed the speed at which the Respiration Tree secreted its resin. It produced about one drop per second.
That was quite fast, and this entire grove was filled with Respiration Trees.
However, considering her needs, Moira Lynch realized that even if she spent all her time collecting the resin without a break, it would only be a temporary solution.
Moira Lynch placed her hand on the trunk to sense the state of its roots underground.
Surprisingly, the Respiration Tree’s roots weren’t deep at all; in fact, they were extremely shallow. A moderately strong wind would be enough to topple one.
Looking around, she saw several fallen Respiration Trees. They looked like they had just been pushed over, and given the surrounding hoofprints, the culprit was obvious.
’If that’s the case, then I won’t hold back.’
Why just take the golden eggs when you can take the whole goose that lays them?
Having made up her mind, Moira Lynch immediately used her spiritual power to dig pits inside her dimensional space, preparing for the transplant.
With no wind inside her space, she wouldn’t have to worry about the Respiration Trees being toppled.
Once everything was ready, Moira Lynch began relocating the Respiration Trees one by one.
With the Water Wood Stone and the Hundred Herbs Map, Moira Lynch wasn’t the least bit worried about the Respiration Trees’ survival.
It took her an hour, but Moira Lynch moved all one hundred-plus Respiration Trees from the grove into her space.
Of course, Moira Lynch didn’t just take them without giving back. In the place of every tree she took, she left behind seeds and a few pieces of Water Wood Stone to ensure new Respiration Trees would sprout successfully.
Respiration Trees grew very quickly; as long as they had enough nutrients, they could mature into a large tree in just one year.
Having done all this, Moira Lynch moved on.
As she walked, she suddenly stopped, wondering if she was hallucinating.
She looked back, then at the "wall" of foliage before her. She looked back again, repeating the motion several times.
She reached out and touched the scene in front of her. It wasn’t fake.
Behind her was the decaying world of late autumn; before her lay a vibrant, thriving rainforest.
It was like two completely different worlds, yet they both existed on the same island.
’No wonder I haven’t seen any animals on my way here.’
She had been wondering what was attracting all the animals to this area.
The herbivores must only venture out at night to drink, with the carnivores following close behind.
At that moment, it was as if Moira Lynch had entered another world.
A dense canopy overhead blocked the sun, plunging the surroundings into a dim gloom. The abundant water vapor and humid climate gave Moira Lynch a feeling reminiscent of the period of extreme heat.
Moira Lynch wasn’t afraid of the cold, but she dreaded the heat.
Without her Water-cooling Stones and Chimefin scales, she was quickly drenched in sweat.
She plucked a nearby leaf to use as a fan, but it offered little relief.
’I guess I got used to the good life.’
Moira Lynch thought with some grim amusement, ’Looks like I’ll have to find something to increase my Heat Resistance Attribute.’
’I’m glad I ate that Insect Attracting Grass before entering the game,’ she thought. ’Even though more than a day has passed, I’ll at least be free from bug bites for another day or so.’
Despite the heat, she didn’t forget her purpose. She collected everything edible she found along the way.
If she came across plants with special properties, Moira Lynch would transplant a few into her space to cultivate.
[Bright Throat Fruit: Long-term consumption makes the voice more sonorous, crisp, and pleasant, while improving enunciation. A godsend for those who stutter, have unpleasant-sounding voices, or speak too quietly.]
The effect of the Bright Throat Fruit was similar to the Ice Mist Fruit in that they both made one’s voice more pleasant, but there were some differences.
’Whatever. I’ll just pick them first.’
As she continued walking, she suddenly caught a whiff of a very, very, *very* fragrant scent.
The first sniff was delightful, but on the second, Moira Lynch’s expression soured, and she couldn’t help but gag.
"What is that? It stinks!"
Glancing around, she finally located the culprit in a patch of grass: a red, palm-sized flower.
[Small King Flower - Strong Fragrance Type: The most concentrated things are the most potent. The fragrance of the Small King Flower is even more intense than that of a large Tyrant Flower, affecting a wider area.
The Strong Fragrance Tyrant Flower has the ability to repel insects.]
Moira Lynch pinched her nose shut.
"No, I think that’s an understatement," she muttered. "This flower doesn’t just repel insects. It repels every living thing that gets close."
