Chapter 113: There’s Such a Good Thing?
The official reward for the competition was a Sealing Ball. It contained a boat that could be taken out and used whenever they wanted.
Moira tested it out. The boat’s capacity wasn’t large, but if comfort wasn’t a concern, it could probably hold two people.
The entire boat looked incredibly high-tech.
Moira and the others were all very satisfied with this reward.
Next up were the system’s rewards.
"I’m curious, what would you give us if we don’t specify the reward ourselves?" Shane Rhodes suddenly asked.
[Any single item from the System Mall priced under two thousand Gold Coins.]
Since this was a competition, there was no salary, but there was prize money.
Although Moira and her group had cleared the stage without a hitch, their performance was only considered average. As a result, the prize money wasn’t much—just two silver coins each.
For players at their current level, any item from the System Mall under two thousand Gold Coins was an incredible reward.
"Are there any restrictions if we specify the reward?" Hugh Finch asked.
[If a reward is specified, its price cannot exceed one thousand five hundred Gold Coins.]
It was cut by a quarter, just like that.
Shane Rhodes and the other two couldn’t help but look at Moira.
"Moira, any good suggestions?"
Moira had already opened the System Mall. Without looking up, she said, "You all should check the System Mall and see if there are any items you need."
After a moment, she looked up. "If you really can’t find anything, I suggest you get an interstellar ID."
"An ID!"
"That’s right. You should know we’re going into interstellar space. Caelus hasn’t officially joined the interstellar community yet, so over there, we’d be considered undocumented."
Moira browsed for a bit but couldn’t find anything she wanted. The items she was interested in were too expensive—most were over two thousand—and the ones under two thousand were a bit too impractical.
The kind of purchase that would just be a waste of money.
Finally, Moira looked up and asked, "Can I just take the money? And could you help me set up an interstellar bank card while you’re at it? Thanks."
[Yes. A two-hundred-Gold-Coin service fee will be charged.]
Moira’s eyes widened when she heard the price. ’What kind of bank card costs two hundred Gold Coins?’
’She’d be damned if she believed this system wasn’t taking a kickback.’
However, she was in no position to argue.
"Alright, two hundred it is."
Three seconds later, a black-and-gold card appeared in Moira’s hand.
[The Federal Bank savings card detected. Initiating automatic binding... Binding successful. Card balance: two thousand three hundred Gold Coins.]
"Wait, why is it two thousand three hundred Gold Coins? Shouldn’t it be one thousand?"
[According to interstellar law, when a minor has no guardian, guardianship is automatically transferred to The Federation in which they reside. The Federation is then responsible for their financial support until they reach the age of majority.]
Moira’s mouth fell slightly agape. ’There’s a perk like that?’
"Why didn’t you tell me before?"
[You never asked. Besides, you didn’t have a bank card. Even if The Federation wanted to transfer money to you, it was impossible.]
"Fine. So, what’s considered the age of majority under interstellar law?"
[According to interstellar law, it is generally twenty-two. Of course, some species develop more slowly, so their age of majority is correspondingly later.]
Meanwhile, once Shane Rhodes and the other two snapped out of it, they all carefully considered their options and chose to get an ID.
It seemed like they were giving up an item, but in reality, they were gaining many intangible benefits.
At Moira’s suggestion, the three of them also requested bank cards.
Perhaps because all their funds went toward the IDs, the bank cards the system gave Shane Rhodes and the other two looked very plain.
[The IDs will be processed in a few days. Just wait.]
"Is it just me, or does the game system seem angry?"
Moira couldn’t care less whether the system was angry. ’I was going to ask Shane and the others their ages,’ she thought, ’but it wouldn’t matter. They aren’t orphans, so knowing their age is useless.’
With the system no longer interrupting them, the group decided to divide the spoils from the last game.
They still planned to trade with the higher-ups this time.
Especially the Soldier Food Rattan. If they held onto it, they would easily be targeted by others.
However, they wouldn’t trade all of it. Each of them kept a few pots for themselves, just in case.
They decided not to trade the Body Building Aloe Vera and the various strengthening fruits that Moira and Kai had found, keeping them for their own use.
All the Energy Fruits would be processed into energy blocks and kept.
It was worth noting that Shane Rhodes and Hugh Finch had mostly found various Energy Fruits on their route.
They would keep half of the remaining Repair Aloe Vera and other items, while the rest would be traded.
"Should we wait for SoySauceDrunkard this time?" Kai York suddenly asked.
Shane Rhodes opened the [Don’t Miss It] shop. Inside, apart from the permanent buyback slot for Water-cooling Stones, every other space was filled with Sea Pearls, priced at twenty Gold Coins each.
"Looks like we don’t have to. SoySauceDrunkard must have stumbled into a Sea Pearl nest."
Moira: "..."
"Remember to trade for more Space Buttons, plus weapons and food," Hugh Finch said.
"Right, I know."
Even though they had larger Space Buttons now, you could never have too many.
"The military must have traded for a lot of Space Buttons from SoySauceDrunkard. They’ve probably already brought a ton of good stuff out of the game," Kai York said, a little worried.
Moira said, "Isle Turtles don’t exactly grow on trees. You can’t just find one whenever you feel like it."
Hugh Finch nodded. "Moira’s right. Besides, even if they ran into one, they might not recognize it."
If Moira hadn’t been there, they never would have discovered the Soldier Food Rattan. It just looked like a common vine, after all. Who would’ve thought it was edible?
’The most those people probably managed was to catch a bunch of fish to bring back,’ Hugh thought.
Some of them probably couldn’t even catch any fish, since they still had to complete their tasks.
Whether it was completing the tasks on their Task Cards or eliminating other players, three days was an extremely tight schedule.
Things only seemed so simple for them because they had Moira.
Without Moira, they probably would have ended up completing the game by eliminating other players.
After they finished dividing up the items, Moira returned to her room. They had spent the last part of the game stuffing fish into their Space Buttons, and she reeked of it.
Back in her room, she quickly stripped off her clothes.
The bathroom held the water Moira usually kept in storage. She used it to take a long, comfortable shower and change into clean clothes.
Once she was done, she tossed her dirty clothes into the washing machine along with those of Shane Rhodes and the other two.
She glanced at her shop; the Sea Pearls weren’t selling as well as she had imagined.
Sea Pearls allowed a person to breathe freely in seawater. ’This ability really is a bit impractical,’ she thought. After all, not every game round took place in the sea.
