Chapter 77: Crino Prairie 21
However, whether the lights were on or not made little difference to Moira Lynch.
Inside the enormous warehouse, burlap sacks were piled several meters high.
Moira Lynch opened one of the sacks, and round, black pellets rolled out.
Looking at these pitch-black things, Moira Lynch suddenly had a bad feeling.
"Patience, what is this stuff?"
It’s the feces of the Giant Lapine Tribe’s Beastkin. It’s colorless and odorless, releases a large amount of heat when burned, and a single pellet can burn for an entire day... On Caelus, it’s a medicinal ingredient called Moon Gazing Sand. However, due to the difference in species, using it as medicine is not advised.
’Heh, thanks for the suggestion. Even if you hadn’t said anything, it’s not like I’m bored enough to try using it as medicine.’
Still, putting aside the fact that it was feces, this stuff was the perfect fuel.
Colorless and odorless. A single pellet could burn for an entire day—it was even better than coal.
Her residential complex hadn’t had its natural gas supply cut off yet, but many other places had. There was no telling how much longer theirs would last.
Every household was hoarding firewood just to be able to cook, so this Giant Lapine dung would sell without a problem.
However, in Moira Lynch’s opinion, now was not their time to shine.
Even with that in mind, Moira Lynch still took out a pair of gloves and put them on.
’It might be colorless and odorless, it might be packed in burlap sacks, and I might be collecting it with my mind... but a girl has to have some standards.’
’Besides, just wearing gloves wouldn’t affect her efficiency, and it would even make her look more professional.’
The entire warehouse was huge, two or three times the size of the ones she had seen before.
Moira Lynch had initially assumed a warehouse this large couldn’t possibly be filled with *just* dung. Perhaps other goods were stored deeper inside, hidden from view.
But reality proved her wrong. She had been overthinking it. The entire warehouse was filled with the stuff.
Even though she kept telling herself it was all just fuel, after spending a full hour inside, Moira Lynch felt completely drained.
Of course, part of that was due to the fact that it was, indeed, entirely filled with dung.
’Then again, it made sense. Who would store their belongings with their own waste?’
When she stepped out of the storeroom, the red rabbit was still waiting for her. Behind it stood three more warehouses with their doors thrown open.
’Holy crap, there’s so much! These rabbits have been hoarding a lot. How long has it been since they had someone come clean this out?’
’This is... this is fantastic!’
The second warehouse was the same as the first, filled entirely with dung. No matter. She still had two more to check.
「An hour later.」
Moira Lynch stood before the third warehouse, taking a deep breath. She comforted herself inwardly: ’This is all a freebie. No matter how much I get, it’s a net gain. I can’t be too greedy.’
Thankfully, the third warehouse wasn’t filled with dung. Moira Lynch could have cried with joy.
She opened one of the boxes. Inside were small, neatly arranged bottles.
Carrot Essence Pills, developed for children who dislike the taste of carrots. They are near their expiration date, with one month remaining. Consumption is not advised.
Moira Lynch ignored Patience’s last sentence. As someone who disliked carrots herself, she opened a bottle and tried one. A sweet flavor instantly flooded her mouth, just like eating candy.
’Good stuff. I’m taking it.’
On Caelus, vegetable prices were nearly as high as Gold these days.
Moira Lynch soon discovered that the entire warehouse seemed to be filled with vegetable-related products.
There were the Carrot Essence Pills, Coriander Concentrate Liquid, and all sorts of dried vegetables.
Moira Lynch had her own pocket dimension, so she wasn’t short on vegetables; she ate fresh ones picked daily from her space. She wouldn’t eat these herself, but she could sell them to others.
When she reached the last warehouse, Moira Lynch opened a box. The contents were familiar: the same Energy Bars she had gotten from the Rabbit-kin before.
However, compared to the Energy Bars from the Rabbit-kin, these were thicker and longer—like the difference between a ladyfinger and a steamed bun.
’Are these about to expire, too?’
Moira Lynch found the production date on the packaging and saw they weren’t due to expire for a long time.
’Were they put here by mistake? Or did the red rabbit open the wrong door for me?’
Despite her thoughts, Moira Lynch’s hands didn’t slow in the slightest. The boxes of Energy Bars vanished one after another at incredible speed.
「Two hours later.」
Moira Lynch emerged from the warehouse, her face pale. She clearly looked as if she had overdrawn her spiritual power.
Seeing her condition, the red rabbit hurriedly produced a bottle of Spiritual Recovery Potion.
"Hurry, drink this. Why do you push yourself so hard? Earning money is important, but your health is more important."
Moira Lynch said nothing. She took the Spiritual Recovery Potion, drank it in one gulp, and then gave a weak smile. "I have no choice. I’ve got a big family at home waiting for me to provide for them."
Hearing this, the red rabbit’s comforting gaze turned to one of pity.
’How pitiful,’ he thought. ’So young, and already she has to go out to support her family.’
’No wonder she isn’t trying for a Class-S Recycler license. Class-S Recyclers have to serve with the military. She must be afraid she won’t be able to care for her family if she leaves.’
Moira Lynch’s part of the job was done, but Shane Rhodes and Kai York were still busy.
"Why don’t you wait here? We had a lot of kits born today, so they might need a little more time. But don’t worry, I just got word that those two are doing a fine job."
As he said this, the red rabbit brought out another box. "I can’t do much to help you, but here, take this as a little extra. We were originally going to hire a whole C-Rank Recycler team for those warehouses. This was their payment, but now it’s yours."
Moira Lynch opened the box. Inside were various neatly arranged Medicines and Energy Bars.
"Thank you."
"Don’t mention it, you’ve earned it. Oh, are you hungry? You can head to the cafeteria if you are."
Moira Lynch nodded eagerly, letting him know she would definitely go.
Before he left, the red rabbit tapped Moira Lynch on the chest. Now she only needed to collect one more smiley face to complete her mission.
Since Shane Rhodes and Kai York still needed more time to finish their work, Moira Lynch headed to the cafeteria.
She ordered a meal. It was all vegetarian, but the flavor was incredible, and the portions were even more impressive.
After finishing her meal, she packed up the leftovers. She waited until the other red rabbits were mostly done eating, then went to the back kitchen under the pretext of helping out.
With Shane Rhodes and Kai York not around to see, Moira Lynch just gave a wave of her hand, and everything in front of her vanished.
While she waited, Moira Lynch didn’t stay idle. There were plenty of Sucking Mushrooms growing in the Giant Lapine Beastman’s territory.
This type of mushroom has a massive internal cavity that can absorb any gas or liquid, which can then be released by squeezing it.
