Chapter 127: Land of the Yeti 3
In just a moment, the wails of Frostrock Rats echoed from nearby.
Less than a minute later, the sounds quickly faded into silence.
After scanning the area with her spiritual power and confirming that all the Frostrock Rats were down, Moira Lynch remotely retrieved the Abnormal Pepper Fruit. She dropped it into a prepared bowl of water and sealed it with plastic wrap.
’I should have just used a quarter of it. I really underestimated just how abnormal the Abnormal Pepper Fruit is.’
When Moira Lynch arrived at the Frostrock Rats’ nest, she found that every single one, without exception, was lying motionless on the ground.
The smell of the Abnormal Pepper Fruit still lingered in the air.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch wasted no time. With a wave of her hand, she collected all the ice rocks from the Frostrock Rats’ bodies into her space.
She had completed her mission and gained a new method of attack. It was like killing two birds with one stone.
[Congratulations to player SoySauceDrunkard for completing the side quest.]
The system’s notification chimed in her ear. Just as Moira Lynch was preparing to leave, she glanced at the nest full of Frostrock Rats.
"Patience, search for me. Are there any quests to recycle Frostrock Rat corpses?"
A moment later, Patience replied:
[C-rank quest found: Recycle Frostrock Rat corpses. The fresher, the better. Recycle price: one adult regular Frostrock Rat for two hundred Gold Coins, one young Frostrock Rat for two thousand Gold Coins, one giant Frostrock Rat for twenty thousand Gold Coins, one Icefang Rat King for two hundred thousand Gold Coins.]
[C-rank quest: Long-term recycling of ice rocks, two hundred Gold Coins per piece.]
At this point, Moira Lynch was at a loss for words. These Frostrock Rats were truly valuable. Thankfully, she hadn’t left immediately, or she would have missed out on so much money.
There had to be at least eight hundred, if not a thousand, Frostrock Rats here. And among them was an Icefang Rat King, which alone was worth two hundred thousand Gold Coins.
Moira Lynch found an empty warehouse in her space and stored all the Frostrock Rats inside, planning to sell them for cash when she turned in the side quest rewards.
Emboldened by her easy gains, Moira Lynch set her sights on the other Frostrock Rat nests, but unfortunately, they were all a fair distance from her current location.
In this matter, Moira Lynch knew how to prioritize.
The map in her hand not only helped Moira Lynch quickly find the Frostrock Rat nest but also showed her a quick way out.
The closer she got to the surface, the colder Moira Lynch felt.
Although she wasn’t in danger of freezing to death, the cold made her shiver uncontrollably.
To solve this, Moira Lynch simply brewed some Red Sugar and White Ginger Water in her space, poured it into a thermos, and tucked it into her coat where she could drink it just by lowering her head.
The Red Sugar and White Ginger Water wasn’t enough, so she also had charcoal-grilled Extremely Hot Mushrooms.
A bite of grilled mushroom followed by a sip of Red Sugar and White Ginger Water instantly warmed her entire body. It was incredibly comfortable.
The moment she left the cave, the system’s voice sounded in her ear again:
[Congratulations, player, on completing the second phase of the mission. Current rank: ninth. Side quest triggered: Distress Signal. Send a distress signal to The Federal Government, and they will dispatch troops to rescue you at top speed.]
[Third phase of the mission: Leave the Yeti territory. Warning: Do not let the Yetis discover your tracks, otherwise...]
The system didn’t say what would happen otherwise, but it clearly wouldn’t be anything good.
As for this side quest, it might be difficult for other players, but for Moira Lynch, she had this in the bag.
"Patience, call the police!!"
[Your distress signal has been sent to The Federal Government.]
Immediately after, Moira Lynch received a message, precisely from The Federal Government.
The message stated that The Federal Government was organizing personnel to rescue her and that she should ensure her own safety in the meantime. They would handle the rest.
At the same time, an announcement from the game system rang in the ears of nearly every player: [Congratulations to player SoySauceDrunkard for completing the side quest "Distress Signal." Reward: one Talent Quality Enhancement Stone.]
This announcement caused an uproar among almost all the players.
Some coveted the Talent Quality Enhancement Stone, while others were shocked that SoySauceDrunkard was in the same game as them!
Meanwhile, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but curse inwardly. She was sure the game was doing this on purpose.
Fortunately, the back-end functions were inaccessible during the game, and players couldn’t contact each other. Otherwise, her private messages would probably be flooded again.
Looking at the milky-white stone that had been delivered to her, Moira Lynch temporarily stored it in her space. What if something happened while she was trying to fuse with it now? It was better to wait until she got back.
Before her was a vast expanse of white. To avoid getting snow blindness, Moira Lynch tinted her glasses black.
She then put on a white cloak, making her almost impossible to spot from a distance.
Even so, Moira Lynch still felt a little uneasy.
She used her Spiritual Body to probe the thickness of the snow layer beneath her feet, then took out a shovel. If it wasn’t safe on the surface, she would travel underground. Besides, it was warmer.
Moira Lynch didn’t let the excavated snow go to waste, either. She stored it directly in her space, planning to sell it after she returned.
She had just tested it; the snow on Glacius was exceptionally clean and could be eaten directly.
With her spiritual power, she didn’t have to worry about getting lost.
As she was digging, a blue object shaped like a Chestnut appeared in front of Moira Lynch.
At first, Moira Lynch thought it was a chunk of ice, but when she picked it up, she saw that it was actually a Chestnut.
[Ice Chestnut: A specialty of Glacius, hidden beneath several meters of thick ice and snow. Extremely rare. Consumption increases Ice Resistance.]
Seeing that last sentence, Moira Lynch ate the Ice Chestnut without hesitation.
It tasted even better than a regular Chestnut—cool, refreshing, and faintly sweet, like eating creamy ice cream.
After finishing the Ice Chestnut, Moira Lynch didn’t feel any obvious change, but that was probably because she had only eaten a small amount.
For the next while, Moira Lynch began to specifically search for Ice Chestnuts. Unfortunately, after searching for a long time and collecting a huge pile of snow, she only found two more.
She ate the newly dug Ice Chestnuts and sighed. "Looks like it’ll be impossible to max out my Ice Resistance here."
The third phase of the mission was to leave the Yeti territory. She didn’t have a map and wasn’t sure how large the territory was, but as long as she kept moving in one direction, she should eventually be able to leave.
At night, a frigid wind howled across the surface. The sound was so clear that even Moira Lynch, hiding underground, could hear it perfectly.
At that moment, Moira Lynch was incredibly grateful for her earlier decision, as she was completely unaffected by the weather outside.
Moira Lynch expanded the surrounding space a little, then took out a tent and a cold rock. The ambient temperature instantly rose by a fair amount.
