Chapter 149: Land of the Yeti 25
However, he saw that after accepting one mission, Moira Lynch showed no signs of stopping. Instead, she continued to browse. ’Could it be...’
The director held his breath, his heart pounding. A guess was already forming in his mind.
’If this is real, it looks like my promotion is in the bag this year. I might even get transferred to a capital planet to be a director there.’
Moira Lynch was unaware of the director’s thoughts. Her gaze fell on one of the missions.
Mission 4: Five Yeti Horns -- Mission Reward, one Mochina
Mission 6: Five Yeti Horns -- Mission Reward, three Garbage Stars
Moira Lynch had been to the Mocha Forest before during her second mission. The forest was on Planet Mocha, an undeveloped world. ’So what’s the deal with this Mochina?’
Fortunately, the mission came with a detailed description of the planet.
Mochina was similar to Planet Mocha—both were undeveloped. But unlike Planet Mocha, which was ownerless, Mochina clearly had an owner.
It was also much smaller, only about one-tenth the size of Planet Mocha.
The information also noted that the dangerous animals on Mochina had been cleared out, making the planet very safe.
The person who posted this mission was clearly very sincere.
Without a second thought, Moira Lynch accepted it.
To the current Moira Lynch, the value of Mochina far exceeded that of the Yeti Horns.
Besides, she didn’t think Yeti Horns were that difficult to obtain. Things had gone quite smoothly for her so far.
There had been dangers, but she had managed to avoid most of them.
Then came the next mission: another trade of Yeti Horns for planets, this time for three Garbage Stars.
The word "garbage" had become a very sensitive topic for Moira Lynch.
With a sense of trepidation, Moira Lynch opened the files on the three Garbage Stars.
The interstellar standard for a Garbage Star was based on its quantity of usable resources. Planets with scarce resources were classified as such and then used as dumping grounds.
In truth, Garbage Stars could be developed; it just took time. But interstellar society was all about efficiency. With that much time, it was better to develop planets with more immediate value.
These three Garbage Stars were exactly like that—resource-poor. One was eighty percent covered in water, which was only marginally better than Planet Aelmar.
But Planet Aelmar was rich in its own assets, like the mobile treasure troves that were the Isle Turtles.
Of the other two, one was covered in bottomless swamps, and the other was all gobi and desert.
’Putting the ocean one aside for now, I might be able to do something about the swamp and desert planets.’
’Plant trees, improve the soil... I could probably contract that work out.’
’Anyway, Caelus is unbearably hot right now. The climate on those Garbage Stars might actually be an improvement.’
’But that’s something that requires long-term planning. The most important thing now is to secure these three Garbage Stars.’
After accepting those two missions, Moira Lynch scrolled a little further. Seeing nothing else that caught her eye, she finally stopped.
Meanwhile, the director was staring, his eyes wide, his face a mask of utter disbelief as if he’d just seen a ghost.
After a long moment, he finally found his voice. "The paperwork to transfer planetary ownership is rather complicated. You may have to wait a while."
Moira Lynch nodded. "Alright, I understand. By the way, could you do me a favor?"
Hearing this, the director immediately stood at attention and said, "What favor, ma’am? Please, ask. If it’s within my authority, I will provide my full assistance."
The director was now convinced that Moira Lynch was a scion of some great family. Even if her request was beyond his authority, he wouldn’t dare refuse.
Seeing his reaction, Moira Lynch wasted no words. She produced four more Yeti Horns and said, "I’ll be attending an auction soon, but I’m short on liquid funds. I need you to help me."
Staring at the four Yeti Horns, the director audibly gasped. His heart hammered with such excitement it felt ready to leap out of his throat.
’This isn’t a favor,’ he thought. ’This is a golden highway to my future career!’
Although she framed it as asking for help, Moira Lynch didn’t specify how he should do it—only that he should convert them into funds.
With these four Yeti Horns, he was 100% certain he could get transferred back to a capital planet, and possibly even rise higher.
’And she’s attending an auction soon... what kind of auction would require such an astronomical amount of capital? As far as I know, there’s only one possibility: the Navi Auction on Nymphaea.’
The director said excitedly, "Rest assured, ma’am. I will get you a satisfactory result as quickly as possible."
Moira Lynch nodded.
She wasn’t worried about the director running off with the money. If he did, it would be a slap in the face to the entire Adventurer’s Guild. She wouldn’t have to lift a finger; The Adventurer’s Guild itself would never let him get away with it.
In fact, The Adventurer’s Guild would compensate her ten times the value.
’From that perspective, it would almost be a good thing if he did run off.’
Having settled the matter, Moira Lynch decided to go for a walk. The surrounding area was the territory of the Glacial Directorate, so it was perfectly safe. She had nothing to worry about.
Before leaving, Moira Lynch stopped by to upgrade her adventurer rank.
Name: Moira Lynch
Status: High-Rank Adventurer
Adventurer ID: 94977238971525
She had jumped from a beginner to a High-Rank Adventurer in an instant. It was a feat that might take others years, or even decades, but Moira Lynch had accomplished it in just a few days.
It was all thanks to the missions she had completed and the Yeti Horns she’d given the director.
After leaving the Glacial Directorate, Moira Lynch was just about to ask Patience to look up information on the Snow Maiden’s blessing.
Before she could say a word, she noticed an unread message. It was from the Federation Rescue Team, asking for her location.
Moira Lynch replied that she had already managed to save herself and was now at the Glacial Directorate. She added that others were still trapped where she had been and told them to go conduct a rescue.
They replied with a simple confirmation and nothing more, which didn’t bother Moira Lynch in the slightest.
After all, in a situation like this, time was life.
As a fellow player, she didn’t want to see too many people eliminated at once. That would put immense pressure on the ones who remained.
And that would only lead to more people trying to hunt her down.
「Meanwhile, aboard a starship.」
A young man lowered his comms device and reported to the man in the command chair, "Marshal, the target says she’s already been rescued. But according to her intel, there are quite a few people trapped out on that snow plain. They’re all first-timers on Glacius. And... some have already been taken by the Yetis."
