Chapter 168: Lottery
Perry Yates surveyed the System Space.
The entire System Space was a square, like a small room. It looked to be a little over ten square meters, and all four walls were composed of dense, mysterious blue data streams.
Before Perry Yates could look any further, two cards suddenly flew out from her body.
The cards paused in mid-air for a moment, then transformed into two golden coins.
Seeing this, Perry Yates held out her hand, and the two gold coins landed steadily in her palm.
With the appearance of the coins, a large golden wheel shimmering with multicolored lights suddenly materialized in the previously empty System Space. Beside the wheel were seven red start buttons and a coin slot.
’This must be for the lottery,’ Perry Yates thought. She stepped forward to get a closer look, wanting to see what prizes were on it.
There were eighteen prizes on the wheel in total: three five-star cards, eight four-star cards, and the rest were three-star cards.
Unfortunately, Perry Yates couldn’t see the contents of the cards.
After walking a full circle around the prize wheel, Perry Yates didn’t immediately start the draw. First, she took out her Safe House.
Then she went into the Safe House, took off her dirty clothes, and entered the bathroom to wash herself thoroughly.
A full hour passed. Only after ensuring she was fragrant from head to toe did she emerge from the bathroom. She changed into a fresh set of clothes before returning to the prize wheel.
Even then, Perry Yates didn’t start the draw. Instead, she bowed sincerely to the prize wheel again and again, praying for good luck to draw two good cards.
For the current Perry Yates, four-star cards were no longer anything special unless they had a particularly rare ability. What she wanted were five-star cards, because she had discovered that five-star cards were unique.
She knew this because she had previously tried to copy a five-star card from Evan Fuller, but the attempt had failed.
Although she had managed to copy the card, the result wasn’t a five-star card, but a three-star one.
After completing this whole ritual, Perry Yates finally put the two gold coins into the slot with a sincere expression. Then, she pressed the button with a look of solemnity.
As the button was pressed, the stationary wheel suddenly began to spin rapidly. It went faster and faster until Perry Yates could no longer make out the contents on it, and the surrounding lights flashed continuously.
After a few dozen seconds, two beams of light suddenly shot out from the wheel and landed in front of Perry Yates.
There were two cards in total: one gold, one red.
Perry Yates looked at the golden card first.
Item Card
Name: Thirty Thousand Heaven-Ascending Ladder
Level: Five-Star
Ability Introduction: For those who pass its trials, the ladder can grant any wish.
This item has no effect on its holder.
Perry Yates: "..."
All her excitement and surprise were instantly extinguished by that last sentence.
For a moment, Perry Yates had the sudden urge to just give the card away.
However, as the holder, Perry Yates knew that passing the thirty thousand steps would not be easy. First, stamina was a huge issue. People nowadays lacked exercise; even climbing a few flights of stairs was a struggle, let alone thirty thousand steps.
Besides, climbing these thirty thousand steps wasn’t like a normal climb; it was filled with various traps and Illusion Arrays.
It was just like the Heavenly Ascension Ladder trials in cultivation novels.
"Forget it. I could take it back, set it up outside, and charge admission... No, no, it’s better to just rent it to the Survival Game Administration."
Perry Yates thought about it and dismissed the idea of running it herself. For one, she didn’t know how, and for another, she didn’t have the time. It was far better to rent it to the Survival Game Administration.
After stowing the card away, Perry Yates looked at the other one.
This was a Skill Card named Stone Record.
Seeing the name, Perry Yates was inexplicably reminded that *Dream of the Red Chamber* was also called *Stone Record*.
But obviously, this *Stone Record* was not *that Stone Record*.
This was an Earth Attribute Card. Its ability allowed a Fuser’s body to turn into any mineral they touched, or even merge into minerals.
’The ability of this card is quite practical. It lets your body turn into any mineral you touch. If I turned into diamond, wouldn’t I be invincible?’
’Honestly, I’m quite tempted by this Skill. Not for any particular reason, I just like the idea of my body becoming all sparkly.’
Since she liked it, she would naturally keep it. Perry Yates wasn’t one to deny herself.
This card was a pure Earth Attribute Card. Although Perry Yates could absorb it as is, it would be better to modify it first.
After stowing away both cards, Perry Yates’s body was abruptly ejected from the System Space.
"Hey, wait! You haven’t said when the next game is!"
Before Perry Yates could finish her sentence, there was a flash of white light, and her figure appeared on the fourth floor of The Card Tavern, inside her own bedroom.
Fortunately, the game system still gave her an answer: the next game would be in thirty days. Seeing this, Perry Yates couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. She didn’t want to go through those nerve-wracking days again.
Jumping off the bed, Perry Yates first tried to sense the Space Grass Seeds she had left on Evan Fuller, Amber Sheridan, and Justin Shaw.
’Good, I can still sense them, though the connection is very weak. This means my plan can proceed smoothly. Now I just have to wait for the seeds to sprout.’
Because of the great distance, this process might take two to three days.
Perry Yates decided to use this time to take care of some of her own affairs.
First was the Stone Record card.
For card fusion, it was best to choose cards of the same level, as this guaranteed a one hundred percent success rate. If the card levels were different, the outcome would be unpredictable.
More importantly, card fusion was irreversible. If the fusion failed, even the higher-level card would be affected.
Even knowing this risk, Perry Yates still planned to try. The reason was simple: she could afford to gamble.
Perry Yates went to the fifth floor, picked out two Wood Attribute cards, and threw them into the Card Furnace along with Stone Record.
Then she went down to the first floor and called over Sylas Sawyer, who was cleaning.
"Boss, haven’t seen you in a few days. Did you... just get out of the game? No, that’s not right. Was your game time moved up?"
Hearing this, Perry Yates shot him a sidelong glance and said unhurriedly, "You should pry less into my affairs. I called you over because I just got an item. You—no, the Survival Game Administration will definitely be interested. I’ll rent it to you for the same price as the last five-star card."
Hearing this, Sylas Sawyer’s interest was instantly piqued. "What kind of card? Can I see it first?"
