Chapter 74 - 73: Someone Who Knows How to Act
The plan was indeed feasible, but Lin Fan suddenly thought of something and quickly added a word of caution.
"However, from what I know, there isn’t just one type of zombie..."
A sudden sound of footsteps came from the stairs. Three men were walking down—it was the trio of laborers Chu Zhaotian had rounded up.
Lin Fan saw that they had arrived at the perfect moment, so he had all three of them pull up stools and listen in.
He then described the appearances and characteristics of the Banshee Zombies, Spider Zombies, and Mutant Dogs he had encountered to Liu Bin.
As they listened to Lin Fan’s account, not only Liu Bin but also the man who came with him, as well as Chu Zhaotian and the others sitting nearby, found their eyes gradually widening in shock.
They had seen the corpse of a Mutant Dog, but they never imagined there were so many other bizarre types of zombies.
"Just remember this: if you see a room full of rotten flesh or splattered with blood, or if you hear any sounds that aren’t from a regular zombie, shut the door and run immediately..."
Lin Fan paused, lost in thought for a moment, before continuing.
"Even if someone gets grabbed or wounded, you still run. That’s not something a handful of people can deal with.
Just take down the apartment number and leave it for me to handle..."
When Lin Fan finished, Liu Bin and his companion exchanged a look, each seeing the terror reflected in the other’s eyes.
If those monsters were truly as terrifying as Lin Fan described, it was a good thing he had warned them in advance.
A team of four or five, encountering a monster like that in a confined room, would be facing certain death!
At this thought, Liu Bin immediately shot up from his chair and gave Lin Fan a slight bow.
"Brother Lin, telling us all this... it’s like you’ve saved our lives all over again. Let me thank you right now..."
Lin Fan stood up as well, placing a hand on Liu Bin’s shoulder to steady him.
"Brother Liu, there’s no need to be so formal. We’re all on the same side here. If you run into a Mutated Zombie, just note the apartment number or let me know... Oh, right..."
The thought sparked another idea. Lin Fan waved his hand, beckoning Chu Zhaotian over.
"Zhaotian, where are those walkie-talkies you took to charge? Bring them over..."
A moment later, Chu Zhaotian returned from the RV with all the walkie-talkies, their batteries fully charged.
He switched one on to test it. There was a bit of static, but they were definitely usable.
He handed two of them to Liu Bin.
"Take these. I’m always on channel 6. If anything comes up, just call me on here... It’s more convenient. Saves you from having to run around."
"Ah! This..."
Liu Bin hadn’t expected Lin Fan to give the walkie-talkies back to them.
Zhang Ziy had just been complaining about how nice it would be to find more walkie-talkies. They had asked every survivor they could, but hadn’t found a single one.
With these, they could communicate directly between floors or with the people at the warehouse. It was incredibly convenient!
So, he didn’t refuse and accepted them gratefully.
There were six walkie-talkies in total. Lin Fan’s group only had five people. One for each of the three vehicles, plus a spare, was more than enough.
Besides, Lin Fan was giving him the walkie-talkies to make it easier for Liu Bin to contact *him*.
With dozens of people, they could organize at least two teams to clear buildings for supplies simultaneously. And as Lin Fan had said, the chances of running into a Mutated Zombie weren’t low.
To them, a Mutated Zombie was a death sentence, but to Lin Fan, it was just dessert!
For the current Lin Fan, a one-thousand-HP Mutated Zombie wasn’t a particularly difficult fight.
Besides, he was unlikely to run into three Mutant Dogs at once inside a residential building.
More importantly, there were crystals! And potions!
Only after truly experiencing the power of the crystals and potions did Lin Fan realize they were the key to a true increase in overall strength.
The situation seemed to be stabilizing and improving, but he knew this was just a temporary illusion.
His gaze traveled past Liu Bin to the distant sky, and his thoughts soared even farther.
Linjiang City had a population of thirteen million. By his current estimate, with a mutation rate of at least eighty to ninety percent, that meant well over ten million ordinary zombies...
Just like in his dream, the mere thought of it was enough for the fear of being completely submerged by them to creep back into his heart.
And that didn’t even include the Mutated Zombies, or the ten-thousand-HP monster he dreaded to even think about. It all pointed to some fundamental change in the world.
’Since Liu Bin has mobilized these survivors, I have to make use of them. I’ll have them do the exploring, and I’ll do the reaping. I’ll get my hands on more of those supernatural powers that don’t belong in this world, like the potions and crystals!’
In that short time, Chu Zhaotian and the other two men had unloaded the items from the pushcart. Seeing this, Liu Bin bowed to Lin Fan again.
"Brother Lin, it’s getting late. You all just got back from your trip today, you should get some rest..."
"Okay. You guys be careful on your way back."
After Lin Fan’s dismissal, Liu Bin and his companion picked up the pushcart, lit their way with a flashlight, and passed through the gap between the RVs, heading back toward the supermarket.
It looked like they were planning to sleep in the warehouse courtyard to guard the supplies.
"That Liu Bin is so stingy. He really only brought enough supplies for five people..."
Chu Zhaozhao kicked one of the cardboard boxes and grumbled, but was surprised by the CLINK-CLANK of glass from within.
"Why don’t you open it and see..."
Seeing the all-knowing look on Lin Fan’s face, Chu Zhaozhao, puzzled, sliced open the box with a key. Inside, she was stunned to find a full case of canned fruit cocktail.
The other boxes were also filled with precious goods: packaged braised eggs, preserved duck snacks, chicken legs, and ham sausages!
There was even a case of premium liquor!
"Whoa! My mistake..."
Chu Zhaozhao admitted her mistake without hesitation.
"Stop measuring a gentleman’s intentions with your own petty yardstick..."
Lin Fan habitually raised his hand to rap her on the head, but faced with this brand-new Chu Zhaozhao, it felt awkward. He couldn’t bring himself to follow through.
Instead, he just ruffled her hair.
"Pretty much anyone is more considerate than you... Come on, let’s get this upstairs. We can open a few cans and start eating."
With that, he picked up two buckets of water and headed upstairs. Behind him, Chu Zhaozhao and the two men followed, carrying the clanking boxes.
When they got upstairs, Su Qing had already cleared the table. It was now laden with various meats and the remaining vegetables. A separate basin holding rehydrated mushrooms and wood ear fungus sat on the TV stand.
The overhead lights were out, so they had plugged two desk lamps into a power strip and hung them high to serve as a light source.
"Wow! What a feast! It smells amazing!"
Chu Zhaozhao, who hadn’t had a proper meal in six days, caught the scent of the simmering hot pot broth and let out a cry of pure delight, practically sticking her head into the pot.
The other two men were also swallowing hard, their eyes glazed over with hunger.
Lin Fan opened two of the canned fruit, poured them into a large bowl, and set it on the table. He then took out two bottles of the premium liquor Liu Bin had brought, twisted one open, and poured a small glass for himself.
"Everyone, have a seat..."
He said, passing the bottle around.
"Whoever wants some can pour their own. I’m not going to stand on ceremony..."
He didn’t expect that the first person to take the bottle would be Chu Zhaozhao, sitting to his left. She poured herself a full glass.
