Chapter 261: Very Capable
They didn’t dare ask out loud and could only communicate with their eyes.
Lily Hart looked from one man to the other, then frowned. "Are you all from the White Family?"
She looked at the first man they had caught. "Didn’t you say there were twenty-five of you? Why are there only twenty?"
Instantly, the other nineteen men turned to him with accusing, suspicious glares.
The man’s eyes went wide. He had no idea what she was talking about. What number of people? When had he ever said that?
He shouted frantically, "She’s trying to sow discord!"
But the looks in the others’ eyes were full of mistrust. Once a crack forms in one’s heart, it only grows wider.
Lily Hart asked him again, "Who do you think I should kill first? Him? Or him?"
He gritted his teeth, not daring to speak. He believed Lily Hart would actually do it...
’How did things get to this point?’
"Oh~" Lily Hart said nonchalantly. "Him, then. Alright."
As soon as she finished speaking, one of the men’s heads fell off with a THUD, a sound made all the more horrifying in the silent night.
It rolled a few times after landing, smeared with thick blood. The corpse’s wide-open eyes stared right at the first man.
He stammered in shock, "You... you!"
The others also shot him hateful glares, as if he had really been the one to order it.
"It wasn’t me! I didn’t say anything!" he yelled, explaining in a frantic hurry.
He then asked in panicked confusion, "Why aren’t you talking? Are you all mute?"
Lily Hart shrugged. "Have you considered that you’re the only one who can talk? It’s because you’re different from them."
Her words once again ignited the men’s fury. Now they were all convinced he had been turned!
Lily Hart secretly released one man from his restraints. Sure enough, he roared, "You traitor! If you’ve got the guts, kill us all!"
"Well said! Guts are the one thing I don’t lack!" Lily Hart applauded.
Immediately after, heads fell one after another, the successive thuds creating a chain of sounds that was strangely pleasant.
Lily Hart turned her back, not watching the whole scene, but the first man who had been immobilized witnessed everything.
He went from shock to fury, and then to numbness. The death of his comrades, one by one, was an immense blow to him.
He felt... his own death was not far off.
This operation was over before it had even begun, ending with shocking speed.
Lily Hart counted the sounds. After the eighteenth thud, she turned sideways to look at him.
The corner of her mouth lifted into a smile. She tilted her head slightly and chuckled, "Your turn."
With that, she turned and walked in the opposite direction, avoiding the group of headless corpses and the sight of his head falling.
She only heard another "THUD" from behind her. Lily Hart thought to herself, ’Nineteen.’
Having just killed twenty people, Lily Hart wasn’t in particularly high spirits, although they had brought it on themselves.
But they might not have been willing participants. They were just following orders. The mastermind behind it all was the one who most deserved to die.
The White Family.
Lily Hart walked out of the silence and back into the light, the noisy sounds of the city gradually reaching her ears.
Feeling the liveliness around her, it was as if she had returned to the world of the living. Lily Hart slowly walked back to the lottery shop.
Roman Rowe was draped over the table, bored out of his mind, playing with a small teddy bear. It looked like he was talking to himself.
Frost Shaw sat across from him, resting with his eyes closed. Hearing familiar footsteps, he quickly opened his eyes and looked toward the door.
His gaze met Lily Hart’s. For some reason, Frost Shaw felt a wave of dejection coming off her; her energy was very low.
His worried eyes followed her until she collapsed onto the sofa. Only then did he cautiously make his way over.
On the way, he snatched the teddy bear from Roman Rowe. After moving to her side, he thrust the bear into her arms.
"Here, something to play with," Frost Shaw said, feigning nonchalance.
’??! That’s mine!’
Roman Rowe glanced at Lily Hart and also noticed something wasn’t right. The Lily Hart he knew was always full of energy.
Whether she was smiling or not, she always seemed gentle. Not like now, where her whole being was a little... down.
’What happened?’
Roman Rowe also plopped down next to them. Just as he was about to ask, Frost Shaw stopped him with a look.
Lily Hart looked at the teddy bear that had suddenly appeared in her lap and forced a stiff smile.
"Something happened behind the bathhouse. You two go take care of it," Lily Hart said.
’I’m planning to build a night market there. What’s the deal with leaving twenty headless corpses lying around?’
Frost Shaw subconsciously frowned. Without asking any questions, he pulled Roman Rowe and left.
’Her bad mood is probably because of this.’
When the two arrived at the scene, they both couldn’t help but gasp. Twenty headless bodies.
They were frozen in place in various poses—some in mid-run, some about to leap.
Others were lying on their backs, on their sides, or squatting. The scene was utterly bizarre.
Frost Shaw and Roman Rowe looked at each other, a million thoughts running through their minds.
Roman Rowe couldn’t help but marvel, "Boss Hart did this? Her methods are pretty brutal. And the cuts are so uniform."
"Oh, shut up. Hurry and clean this mess. Don’t let it offend Boss Hart’s eyes," Frost Shaw said, giving him a shove.
Caught off guard, Roman Rowe nearly tripped over a corpse but thankfully caught his balance.
The two first collected the bodies and heads into their spatial storage, then found a distant spot and burned them all.
They tried not to pollute the air near the lottery shop. After they finished, Roman Rowe felt like he stank from the ordeal.
He sniffed his left arm, then his right, and even made Frost Shaw sniff him. "See? I really think I smell like a corpse."
Frost Shaw shoved him away in disgust. "Get away from me." He then quickened his pace, walking ahead.
When he was sure Roman wasn’t looking, he also pinched the collar of his shirt and sniffed. It was barely noticeable, but the smell was there. Just a little.
He took out some air freshener he had swiped from a convenience store and spritzed his clothes a couple of times.
’Better be careful not to bother Boss Hart with the smell later. She’s already in a bad mood.’
He had just stealthily finished spraying when Roman Rowe leaped on him, throwing an arm around his neck. "Whatcha doin’?"
Frost Shaw was speechless for a moment. He could only hold the air freshener back toward Roman, offering generously, "Here, want some?"
Roman Rowe took one look. "Well, now! You little sneak!" he said, snatching it away.
He went PFFT PFFT PFFT, spraying himself several times. Frost Shaw found the smell overwhelming, but Roman Rowe was completely unaffected.
He was about to spray more when Frost Shaw stopped him. "Are you trying to suffocate Lily Hart, yourself, or just waste the whole bottle?"
Roman Rowe was dumbfounded. "You... you’re so cheap!"
Bickering, the two returned to the lottery shop, discussing on the way how they might cheer Lily Hart up.
But as soon as they stepped onto the stairs, they heard Lily Hart’s roaring laughter.
They went up and saw Lily Hart looking at her Light Brain and eating a small cake, looking perfectly happy.
The little plans they’d made to cheer her up were completely unnecessary. The two couldn’t help but sigh in relief.
They sat down on either side of Lily Hart. Noticing them, she took a moment to ask, "All taken care of?"
Frost Shaw nodded.
Roman Rowe, feeling her mood had recovered, got a bit bolder and asked, "Who were those people?"
Lily Hart shrugged, unconcerned. "Sent by the White Family. I guess they wanted to kill me?"
’I can’t think of any other reason.’
