Chapter 123: Elemental Superpower User
The RV had cameras, but now wasn’t a good time to check them. Lily Hart looked completely unconcerned. "Kill him if you want."
Stan Sterling’s eyes flew wide with disbelief. ’I can’t believe Boss Hart is this ruthless...’
The Zombie King studied her. Seeing her indifferent expression, it was clear she didn’t give a damn about this man. ’Did I grab the wrong person?’
As the thought crossed his mind, the Zombie King instantly let go. Stan Sterling collapsed to the ground, coughing weakly, but he reacted fast, using the chaos to flee back into the hotel.
Seeing things were going south, Roman Rowe bolted into the RV faster than he’d ever run in his life.
The Zombie King was left speechless. He scanned the area. It seemed all that remained were some tall plants...
’This human female doesn’t even care about her own kind. Would she really care about these useless plants?’
The Zombie King wasn’t about to waste his time on such fruitless efforts. He decided to launch a direct assault. With a snap of his fingers, the low-level zombies ceased their attack.
They surged toward the Zombie King like a tide, surrounding him in the blink of an eye.
Inside the Dawn Hotel, Leo Colby watched the situation unfold outside, his face etched with worry. ’Should I go out?’
But the guests upstairs were also important and needed protection. After a moment of deliberation, Leo Colby chose to go out and fight alongside the others.
The moment Leo Colby stepped out of the hotel, the Zombie King sensed his presence. He frowned, glanced over, and let out a cold laugh.
He stretched out a hand, pointing at each of them in turn as he spoke with nonchalance, "An Eighth Rank, a Seventh Rank, a Sixth Rank... you think this is enough to deal with me? Be smart. If that human female comes out on her own, I might let the rest of you go."
"Then what if you add us to the mix!" a powerful voice boomed, its owner approaching like a rocket.
Beyond the densely packed horde of zombies, Douglas Donovan came striding over, leading a hundred superpower users.
The Zombie King turned with a sneer, wanting to see who dared to be so bold. But in that exact instant...
Leo Colby launched his attack on the Zombie King. He, too, was an extremely rare Elemental Superpower User—of the Thunderbolt type.
A fact very few people knew.
The sky was instantly torn asunder by a pair of invisible, giant hands. A blinding light followed, then a deafening roar.
The lightning, like a giant silver serpent, slithered through the air, momentarily illuminating the entire world.
As if it had a mind of its own, the silver serpent shot out from the rift in the sky and went straight for the Zombie King.
It moved with incredible speed. Before the Zombie King could even finish turning, he was struck head-on.
One after another, several more bolts slammed into the Zombie King, sending up plumes of white smoke tinged with the acrid stench of burnt flesh.
An Eighth Rank versus an Eighth Rank. Their power was equal; it was just a matter of who would break first. This bolt of lightning seemed to signal the start of the second phase of the battle.
Frost Shaw and Roman Rowe quickly tangled with the High-level Zombies, and the superpower users Douglas Donovan had brought joined the fray.
With Lily Hart and her summoned plants handling the low-level zombies, the situation reached a delicate stalemate.
Even Little Red Flower was doing its part... by cheering everyone on.
Leo Colby kept his eyes fixed on the Zombie King. As the white smoke gradually dispersed, the zombie’s true form was revealed.
Messy hair, long, sharp fingernails, scarlet lips and eyes, and vicious fangs—every detail screamed that this was a true zombie.
Another bolt of lightning came crashing down, but the Zombie King blocked it. Just then, an ice blade flew in from the side, catching him off guard.
It struck the Zombie King square in the abdomen. He coughed, spitting out a mouthful of thick, dark green blood. "SPFF—"
His piercing gaze shot toward Frost Shaw in the distance. He gave a short, sharp laugh, then his body blurred as he shot toward Frost Shaw.
Frost Shaw threw up an ice wall to protect himself, and Leo Colby moved to intercept the Zombie King.
But unexpectedly, the Zombie King made a sharp turn and charged the RV instead. Lily Hart was still focused on wiping out the low-level zombies.
Her focus elsewhere, she didn’t notice the Zombie King until he was right in front of her. Fortunately, the RV’s Protective Shield held, and his fist couldn’t break through.
The Zombie King was getting frantic. The closer he got to the human female, the more intoxicating the scent of her flesh became.
Food was right before his eyes, separated only by a transparent barrier that he couldn’t break. The feeling of helpless rage was palpable.
’This RV can’t be flawless,’ he thought. The Zombie King began circling the vehicle, just as Frost Shaw and Leo Colby rushed over.
The three of them clashed, their clashing abilities creating a brilliant spectacle of light and power. It seemed the Zombie King was at a disadvantage. Roman Rowe joined in as well, harassing him from the sidelines.
Without the Zombie King’s command, the low-level zombies’ combat effectiveness plummeted. The other High-level Zombies weren’t intelligent enough to lead effectively, and their attempts at command devolved into chaos.
This gave Lily Hart and Douglas Donovan the opening they needed. In the blink of an eye, the majority of the low-level zombies were wiped out.
Daybreak came. The hotel’s soundproofing was excellent; the sleeping guests hadn’t been disturbed at all. But eventually, people had to wake up. And when they stepped outside their rooms, they were greeted by an unbelievable sight.
Two-to-three-meter-tall plants were battling zombies, their fighting styles varied and incredibly effective. They could knock out a low-level zombie in seconds before moving on to the next without a moment’s hesitation.
A guest stood at the hotel entrance and swallowed hard. ’What is going on?’ He stumbled back a step as a willow branch whipped past his face.
It wrapped precisely around a low-level zombie’s head. A moment later, the zombie’s brains burst, nearly splattering the guest.
The guest shuddered and hastily slammed the hotel’s main door shut. He peered at the scene through the glass. Another guest came over and saw him acting furtively.
Unable to resist, the second guest crept up beside him, pressing his face to the glass as well. "Whatcha lookin’ at?"
The first guest jumped, patting his chest. He pointed outside. "You scared me! There are zombies out there!"
The second guest copied his pose, and they both stared out the door. After a few seconds, Guest Two declared with righteous bravado, "How can we just stand here and watch? We should be out there helping!"
"You go, then. I’m not suicidal," the first guest retorted, showing a healthy dose of self-preservation.
"You—! Fine, fine. I’ll stay here with you, then," the second guest said, his bravado deflating instantly.
Inside the RV, Lily Hart was reaching her limit. Her head was spinning, and she felt like she could fall asleep at any moment. By her rough estimate, she had already eliminated nearly a thousand of them on her own...
Thankfully, she was now Level 5; otherwise, that number would have been drastically lower.
She propped her head up with one hand, forcing herself to stay alert as she summoned more plants and bought a pill from the Store.
She popped a refreshing pill into her mouth. Lily Hart felt much better; her mind cleared instantly, but her body was still exhausted and craved sleep...
The area outside the RV now looked like a botanical garden, or rather, The Arboretum. All sorts of plants had appeared—flowers, grasses, and trees, large and small, each one looking formidable.
The low-level zombies were nearly all gone. Only a few High-level Zombies remained, barely clinging to life. They had arrived with overwhelming force, only to be utterly routed.
The Zombie King had used every trick in the book and was barely holding his own against the three attackers. But Frost Shaw, Leo Colby, and Roman Rowe hadn’t gotten off scot-free either; all of them were nursing injuries.
Lily Hart surveyed the wreckage. Not a single low-level zombie remained, and the few High-level Zombies left were no longer a threat. She waved her hands and shouted, "Alright, alright, stop fighting!"
She could see that even with three of them, Leo Colby’s group hadn’t gained the upper hand against the Zombie King; they were barely at a stalemate. It just went to show how much weight a zombie’s rank truly carried.
