Chapter 11: What’s happening to me? Am I sick?
Earlier, Violet had noticed that his resistance was high, but she hadn’t thought too much about it. The pain in her head only got worse.
Leo turned guarded and stared at her with the sharp gaze of a man who had met dozens of people who had tried to rip him off his money.
"If the information you have on Jill and Jones is valid, then I don’t need to pay, because you’d naturally get paid by the company," he said firmly.
Violet stared at him, and for a brief moment she was lost for words. Seeing that Leo looked done with the conversation, she cleared her throat, her eyes turning deeply analytical.
There were a lot of things she didn’t know about the system, there would surely be a way to bypass this hurdle.
She was also unwilling to let a target like Leo Kings slip by this easily. She had to think of a way to ensure they would be able to meet again.
Violet tried to look unaffected by his refusal as she said,"Think about it. If you change your mind, let me know." Her voice remained clipped, professional.
"I’m afraid that won’t be happening, Miss Kierra." he said, then tugged at the bottom of his suit. "It was nice making your acquaintance. But I think I have to leave." he said.
From Leo’s words, it was crystal clear he had absolutely no plan to ever meet with her. But Violet was set on creating an opening; anything could happen in a few days, even hours.
"If you change your mind, meet me at the Lux House by 3 pm in two days." Her voice carried a confident edge, even if she wasn’t sure they’d ever meet.
She stood rooted to the ground and watched him through the glass sliding door, his assistant walking briskly beside him.
After Leo had gone out of sight, Violet let out a breath as she pulled her phone out of her purse. Her entire body felt sore and ached from the long day.
But the day was not over. She needed to bond with the spacial jade resting in her purse, she needed a place to stay, and most importantly, she needed to eat.
Her stomach rumbled loudly, and she was grateful for the music in the room, which completely covered the noise. She pressed a hand to her stomach, willing it to stay quiet just a little longer.
Violet’s eyes swept over the room, this was a chance to mingle, but she’d have to leave. She had to place everything on Leo.
He was an ambitious man with the dream of inheriting Kings Estate. She was betting on the fact that his greed would push him back to her feet, and when he finally came, she would charge him double, because by then she would have mastered her system and found a way to penetrate his resistance.
Violet booked a ride and walked outside. She stood in a corner and browsed through her phone, searching for the perfect hotel she could stay in for the next few days.
When the car arrived, a blue sedan, she walked up to it and slid in gracefully. She gave the driver the direction and leaned back into the chair.
Violet placed her head on the car headrest and closed her eyes. Her heartbeat slowed and her breath slowly evened out.
All she wanted to do was get a little rest before she got to the hotel, but the dull pain in her head remained, and she felt warm liquid sliding down her nose.
Violet opened her eyes and adjusted in the chair, her hand moving to her nose to wipe it.
Her eyes widened slightly as she stared at the dull red liquid.
Blood.
She threw her head back and placed one hand on her nose as if to stop the bleeding. "Do you have a disposable tissue I can use?" she asked the driver, who hadn’t noticed she was bleeding.
The car stopped behind another, waiting for the red traffic light to turn green.
"Yes." the driver replied and handed her one.
Violet wiped the red stain off her nose and fingers. The bleeding had stopped, and so had the headache.
’What’s happening to me? Am I sick?’ Violet wondered. She had never had a nosebleed before and thought it was too important to dismiss.
When she got to the hotel, Violet paid the driver through bank transfer before walking in.
The lobby gleamed with polished marble floors and gold trimmings, and a massive crystal chandelier hanging above the reception desk. Soft jazz music played from unseen speakers, perfectly blending with the quiet murmur of well-dressed guests.
Stopping in front of the receptionist, she gave a quick greeting. "I want a suite." she said to the young man standing behind the desk.
"Good evening, ma’am. Welcome to Grand Meridian." he said with a polite smile. "Will that be a standard suite, or would you prefer our presidential suite?"
"The presidential suite." Violet replied without hesitation. The presidential suite was the best, and she had promised herself only the best before the apocalypse.
"That is an excellent choice, ma’am." The receptionist’s smile widened, then he continued, "That comes with a private balcony, a jacuzzi, and access to our rooftop lounge." He typed away on his computer. "May I have your name?"
"Vi—" she paused and quickly corrected herself, "Kierra Adams." she said. For now, until she decided to change it, she was Kierra Adams.
His hands moved over the keyboard, and a few seconds passed before he handed her a keycard. "You’re all set, Miss Adams. Enjoy your stay. A porter will assist you with anything you need."
"Thank you." Violet said and started towards the elevator.
Excitement bubbled within her, the night was far from over. Though exhausted, she was curious about the spacial jade and the resistance penetration; but first, she had to eat.
The moment she stepped into the room, she placed her purse on the bed and grabbed the room’s telephone. Once the call connected, she was about to speak when her phone in her free hand began ringing, and her father’s name flashed on the screen.
