The words hung in the quiet air of the ruined foyer, heavy and unyielding.

"Life’s not fair, sweetheart. You just gotta beat it until it goes the way you want it to go."

April’s breath hitched, her fingers tightening violently around the cold handle of her gun.

The phantom weight of her lost years, the memory of her mother’s silent death, and the torment her sister had endured burned behind her eyes.

She had never been an emotional person but these emotions were raw, they were real and they were here to stay.

She couldn’t undo the past. She couldn’t erase the years stolen from her or the agony forced onto Emily. But...

"I can’t change what’s already happened," April muttered, her voice dropping into a dark, sharp whisper as her eyes burned like an icy inferno. "But... I can at least destroy them in the present."

Beside her, Nat let out a low, dark cackle, the sound echoing richly off the cracked marble walls.

"That’s the spirit," he murmured, his grip around her waist steady and unshakeable.

April’s gaze suddenly turned dark as she looked up, her eyes flashing with a sudden, dangerous clarity. "There are still people involved in this that I am yet to destroy." She paused, her jaw setting into a hard line. "Madam Morgan."

Xavier stood tall beside them, his sharp eyes meeting hers with absolute, unblinking intent. "That’s right. She abused you for ten years, didn’t she? You certainly need to exact revenge on her before your heart can finally be at ease."

Nat tilted his head back, looking up at Xavier as he began to rise to his feet. "Hey, aren’t you supposed to be the saint?"

"Saint?" Xavier asked, his tone entirely calm as he reached up with one hand to adjust the lapels of his long, dark coat. "Does being a saint mean I should turn a blind eye when someone goes as far as this Madam Morgan?" He met Nat’s gaze, his dark eyes cooling into an absolute, deadly promise. "Besides, I am only a saint for April. No one else."

Nat cackled once again, a wicked, thoroughly entertained grin spreading across his face. He shifted his weight smoothly, keeping his arms securely wrapped around April as he lifted her completely off the stone floor, carrying her bridal style without a single hint of effort.

"How would you like us to take care of this Madam Morgan, sweetheart?" Nat asked, looking down at her as she rested against his chest.

"Not you," April said flatly, her voice entirely steady now, devoid of its previous hesitation. "I will do it. I will use my own hands and exact my revenge."

She looked between Nat and Xavier, her dark brown eyes settling into a cold, terrifying slate of absolute resolve.

"You can tag along as the audience."

"I’ll make sure to come along with my pop corn, Sweetheart. I’m certain I’ll enjoy the show," Nat explained and then looked at the surroundings. "What would you have us do with the place?"

"Burn it," April said flatly, her voice cutting through the damp chill of the doorway as she rested in Nat’s arms. "Set the whole place ablaze."

Nat’s face lit up with a sharp, dangerous grin. "A woman after my own heart. I do love a good firework."

He carried her out into the midnight rain.

"It’s pouring cats and dogs," he exclaimed as his men came forward with black umbrellas to cover him and Xavier. He carried her through until they reached the gravel driveway and she did not complain one bit.

It was as if she needed someone to hold her. Her heart felt too heavy and she feared if she stepped out on her own, it would slump into her stomach.

The scene outside was a whirlwind of controlled, silent efficiency. A high-tier medical transport van from Xavier’s private facility sat idling, its dark glass windows reflecting the rain.

Nat set April down smoothly on her feet near Xavier’s sedan and she pressed her hand over her tightening chest. Thankfully, her heart did not fall as she feared.

Before turning back to the manor, he looked down at her, his eyes flashing under the dim driveway lights.

"Don’t overthink tonight, sweetheart," Nat said, adjusting his coat as his men began pouring accelerants along the grand entrance. "Get some beauty sleep. Tomorrow, we storm the Morgans for you."

With a sharp wink, Nat turned on his heel to oversee the cleanup. Every trace of their presence had to be erased—though even if someone managed to piece it together, no one on the surface had the leverage to challenge the Golden Dragon.

April stood beside Xavier, wondering if Nats men always carry accelerants around, or if he had simply predicted they would end up needing to burn something down. Regardless, it was a dangerous habit and he was still a difficult man to read.

Then, she turned her gaze.

Her eyes were fixed on the rear doors of the medical van. Through the glass, she watched the medical crew gently loading Emily onto a padded gurney.

Her twin was healed of every injury and scars through the revitalization spring water, but the sheer emotional trauma and the physical toll of near-suffocation had drained her completely so she was unconscious, receiving quiet, high-care stabilization from the medics.

April stared at Emily’s sleeping, identical face, a quiet, heavy knot tightening in her chest.

How do I even speak to her tomorrow? April thought, her unblinking gaze locked on the vehicle. What do I say?

The situation was a tangled, confusing mess. But deeper than the confusion was a cold, pragmatic worry.

Beatrice had been Emily’s sole anchor in that gilded hell. Now that her mother was gone, what if Emily didn’t want to live anymore? What if the years of relentless torment had broken her spirit beyond repair?

April’s jaw set into a hard line. If Emily truly lost the will to go on, April wouldn’t force her to suffer any more in this world.

She would let her sister slip away peacefully—a mercy far better than forcing her to endure the rotting, brutal world that was going to collapse in just a few short weeks.

And the Gabriel family... April noted silently. Their final sentence won’t be decided by me alone. Emily was their victim too. She gets the final say.

"She will be safe at the private facility," Xavier’s deep voice broke through her spiraling thoughts, his steady presence standing right beside her in the rain. "Our top medical team will take care of her."
