Chapter 572 - 497: The Yama Corps Doesn’t Keep Idlers (Part 2)
"Dr. Fu, do we need to transport these two corpses to Cui Leng Pavilion?"
Zhong Xiaoshan saw Fu Weijun lying on Duan Wuhu’s back, holding a piece of the corpse with a pensive look, and thus asked.
"Sure, that’s for the best, thank you."
Fu Weijun snapped back to reality, smiled, and nodded at Zhong Xiaoshan. There was no animosity between them; their earlier heated exchange was business, not personal.
While directing people to clean up the broken pieces of the corpses, Zhong Xiaoshan found Yang Liehuo and said, "Brother Yang, the zombies have gotten a lot more powerful since the snowfall. I’m really uneasy. We can’t be too concerned about Brother Su and the others outside, but we’ve been entrusted with guarding the rear, and there can be no mistakes!"
"Absolutely, sigh, poor Jiaohua, Fenfang, and Xiaolian..."
Yang Liehuo felt quite melancholic after hearing Zhong Xiaoshan’s words.
"That’s not what I’m talking about..."
Zhong Xiaoshan waved her hand, it wasn’t the time to dwell on the past, then looked toward the mountain gate and said, "We can’t reach Brother Su, and we don’t know what’s happening outside. To prevent further danger, shouldn’t we tighten our defenses?"
Yang Liehuo was suddenly enlightened and quickly said, "You mean... gather all the villagers up the mountain?"
"That’s right." Zhong Xiaoshan nodded slightly and said, "All our forces are on Celestial Horse Island right now, and the defenses in the two villages below are weak. We can’t afford any more mishaps. It would be safer for everyone to stick together!"
She didn’t know how strong the big ones were, but just from the ferocious appearance of those ordinary zombies before, even the women of the Reserve Team found it very difficult to deal with them, let alone the old, weak, sick, and disabled in the villages.
Not many are needed; just over ten zombies targeting a village would definitely mean total extermination.
"Alright! I’ll go notify everyone to head up now. This snowfall is unusual; I hope we can get through it safely!"
Yang Liehuo sighed, threw the collected pieces of the corpses into a bag, and then ran to where his electric scooter was parked.
Zhong Xiaoshan watched Yang Liehuo’s hurriedly departing figure, took a deep breath, and finally understood the pressure Zhang Su faced regularly. She also began to realize how flexible and comfortable their small team had been back then.
When danger came, they fought back with all their might if possible, and if not, they’d escape together; they were very mobile and didn’t need to overthink.
When there are dozens or even hundreds of people struggling to survive together, the burden is really heavy. Without responsibility, you might be more comfortable, but without responsibility, how can one become a leader?
The sky was dark and the snow had stopped without her noticing. Zhong Xiaoshan still felt uneasy, as if a greater storm was brewing in the shadows.
"Everyone, please stop what you’re doing for a moment and listen to me..."
Zhong Xiaoshan turned to the people picking up corpse pieces, clapped her hands, and then communicated the message to hold firm on Celestial Horse Island.
Nothing else mattered, just one thing: before the return of the Yama Corps, no mistakes were allowed—not to seek achievements, but to avoid mistakes!
Everyone had no objections to Zhong Xiaoshan’s words and quickened their pace in their tasks.
The crisis on Celestial Horse Island was averted with Zhong Xiaoshan’s decisive decision and the bombs made by Yu Qing, but the Lego Mall faced some trouble.
"Why are there zombies wandering out from Sun City? Damn it, where did they come from!?"
Zhang Xin, holding a gun, looked downstairs with a face full of frustration.
Just now, the doors of several shops on either side of a narrow pedestrian street in Sun City were broken down, and more than a hundred zombies stormed out. After wandering for a while, they swayed toward Lego Mall, as if knowing humans were hiding here, and their short-distance sensing ability had clearly improved!
"Damn, that area was where the science department stored zombies. Damn it, how did they get out!"
Among those present, only Wu Baokang knew, because the zombies in that shop had been captured by a few members of the Guard Team and placed there for experimental research.
Besides Wu Baokang, everyone responsible for the operation had died, and the three researchers from the science department had also been sent away. Wu Baokang hadn’t even thought about it again.
"Damn, even in death they’re causing trouble. Let’s go, let’s go down and... huh? Look, what the hell is that!"
Zhang Xin was just about to call for heading downstairs to deal with the suddenly appearing zombies when he suddenly spotted figures staggering out of two opposite shops.
"These two zombies..." Li Zongkai frowned and said, "These two zombies are huge!"
If this were in the wilderness without any points of reference, the big zombies wouldn’t stand out, but Sun City was a pedestrian street with very coordinated human architecture, and some streets were quite compact, with only four or five meters between opposing shops.
The big zombies appeared and were immediately out of place, their tiny heads directly knocked off the wall-mounted lights, which were at least more than two meters above the ground!
Everyone present gasped and looked at each other in shock.
"Hey, with those huge bodies, if they were hooked to a generator, I’d reckon just two would be enough."
Jia Shiqin nodded affirmatively; he often thought about how to improve the camp’s power generation equipment, and this included upgrading the devices that provided kinetic energy.
"Could it be that these are zombies enhanced by precipitation?"
Yuwen adjusted his glasses; he didn’t yet know that ordinary zombies had also been enhanced. He felt a heaviness in his heart at the appearance of the big zombies, with internal affairs yet unresolved and external threats arriving, leaving him utterly exhausted.
