Ascendance of a Bookworm

Johan's Challenges

I held my head when I was begged by Johann, who knelt down, in a square where many people would go to meet for winter support. My surrounding gaze stings me. With a whispering voice, "Well, what?" "What is it? I can see they say." I couldn't have stayed much longer.

"Um, Johan. There are people here, and it's very difficult to talk to them, so could I ask Johann's workshop?

"No. If you want to talk, do it at our store."

When I thought about going to Johann's workshop, Benno told me to come to the store. If Johann is mistaken for a Gilberta Chamber of Commerce lady about me, I thought I should leave the store, but Benno wouldn't allow it.

"You better figure out what you're going to stick your neck into this time. Talk to me and Lutz."

"Okay. Bye, Johann. Gilberta, can you come to the Chamber of Commerce?

And it came to pass, when I told Johann to stand up, that Johann stood up with his face shining.

"Of course. Isn't it natural for your father to be worried that one lady is headed to the workshop"

"I'm not a parent or child!

Me and Mr. Benno's voices aligned.

Step all the way forward before Johann, whose eyes and mouth are wide open, and I will look up to Johann.

"I am Mine. I'm taking care of Benno, but I'm not a parent or a child with Benno, and I'm not an apprentice at the Guilberta Chamber of Commerce."

"Heh? But I used to be an apprentice at the Gilberta Chamber of Commerce, and I also have a commercial guild card..."

Though upset, Johann's complexion went bad all at once, stating a few reasons why he had certified a parent and child, "Not a parent and child?," he muttered in a dismal manner.

"Mine is the workshop manager I'm looking after. If it's your age, it's an exam, right? If it's just talk, I'll listen to you."

"Yes, sir"

Benno exhales as if he had no choice but to lift me up and walk with Stasta. Even though he is treated like a parent and child because he does this, Benno seems so reluctant to adjust to my gait and doesn't try to change his behavior.

Johann continues at a fast foot to Benno's speed, which doesn't take into account those following him, and Rutz is on a small run.

"Hey, aren't those two really parents and kids?

"No. My husband is single."

Lutz shouted at Johann's voice like he couldn't give up. Benno also seemed to hear a firm, whispering conversation, staring at Johann.

And it came to pass from Benno's shoulder, that Johann let Vikri mock his body.

When I get to the table in the back room of the store, Lutz takes me up the back stairs to Marc to make some tea.

I guess Johann, a blacksmith, has never been put through to her husband's office room in a big store. Sit in the recommended chair, looking around with fear. I don't think he's the same person who yelled "Be a patron" in the squares that attract the crowd.

"Mr. Benno, what is an example exam?

And it came to pass, and when I climbed into the chair, and asked him to come up to the table, Benno turned his gaze softly toward Johan.

"Johann, it's your business. You explain."

"Ha, ha!

Johann stares at Benno as he freaks out and adjusts his posture. After comparing me to Benno, Johan slowly opens his mouth after letting his gaze wander like he was searching for words.

"... uh, the Blacksmith Association has a challenge to be recognized as a single person when the apprentice Dapla grows up"

Johann doesn't even seem to be so masterful with his mouth, he begins to talk to Potspots in a quiet tone, looking for words.

Among the guests who come to the workshop, it's a challenge for the Blacksmith Association to catch patrons who recognize their arms and fund them by the mitzvah and make what the patrons instruct them to do within a year, Johan said.

What patrons want is weapons, supplies, and so on, but the most important part of this challenge seems to be looking for patrons to fund their own arms.

As well as the quality of what we have created and the satisfaction of the patrons we have funded, patrons are also necessary to maintain the workshop ahead of them, so what patrons will be caught is also a grading criterion.

And if you disqualify from this exam, the Dapra contract will be terminated and you will be dropped into the Dalua contract, he said.

"Johan is good at his arms, so don't you find him as quickly as a patron?

"... no, I can't"

Johan leaned down and shook his head slowly.

"Well, I'm... too detailed... so I don't get it very well from my customers."

Johann, who craves detailed instructions for the things he orders and persists in asking questions, seems to have a bad reception for his customers. They say you're judged to be the owner of an arm that you can't make without asking in detail. Seems like a good arm owner to be able to make what customers want even on a large order.

I think it's a little different to say that Johann's arm is bad, although it's right on one side as well, but he can follow the fine instructions perfectly.

However, Johann is now in charge of all the details in the order coming to the workshop because he has good arms even if the customer is not well received. Naturally, he doesn't want to let go of Johann as a blacksmith workshop, but he can't help it if he can't get results due to challenges from the association.

"I'm the only apprentice Dapla in the blacksmith association who hasn't decided on a patron...... At the end of autumn I was really in trouble to grow up..."

Here there is a baptism ceremony at the beginning of the season and an mitzvah at the end of the season. If Johann is a mitzvah in the fall, now that fall is deepening, there really isn't much time left to look for patrons.

"Thank you for waiting, sir."

Lutz and Marc took the tea and came down. Distributing tea to everyone, Marc leaves the room in a courtesy. Lutz stood behind Benno.

I look at Johann with a cockle and a sip of tea Benno frowning.

"Yeah, I got the story. Mine's the workshop manager, but he's a kid to watch. Your parents must have shown some difficulty."

Johan shrunk his body so that there was no place for him.

"I sure am..."

Originally, I'm a minor, so they disagree around making me a patron. Because I know what money minors can spend.

But I have a proven track record of ordering large mouths, having my own cards and buying Johan's arms. Besides, in response to Johann's detailed questions, he praised his arm and nominated Johann even more. I understand that you have detailed questions coming from Johann, and I seem to be the one unusual customer who brings detailed blueprints when ordering.

Apparently, at the time I nominated Johann to order the job, I was to qualify as a patron. However, since I am a minor, I seem to need permission and coverage to be a parent and a guardian.

"There is no one but a lady from the Gilberta Chamber of Commerce who seems to be a guest coming to the blacksmith workshop and becoming my patron. I can't help it, but ask for one! and my parents kicked me out of the workshop..."

If you're a big store lady, you might be able to ask your father to be an ostensible patron. That way, if the Gilberta Chamber of Commerce could be a patron, it would also be foiled for Johann.

"My husband went to a commercial guild," he asked the store, thinking so and thinking of straw. When I went to the commercial guild, they found me in the upstairs crowd, hugged by that husband, with my head jumping out of the crowd.

"I can't believe you weren't a parent or a child..."

Johan dropped his shoulder disappointingly. Where Benno is not only in the workshop, but also in the commercial guild, lifting me up and moving, Lutz and I come in apprenticeship clothes and expensive orders, I say that I have fully accredited the lady of the Guilberta Chamber of Commerce.

Speaking of which, he looks like a parent and child from around him, Otto also said before. Perhaps it is reasonable given the age difference. But it seemed frustrating to Benno, who was single, and looked at me with a rugged eye.

"There's no way Mine is my daughter. If I were a parent, I wouldn't grow up without such a messy, crisis-free idea. At least let me wear as much attention as Corinna"

I pointed my lips at Benno's words, who educated his sister by losing her parents early, even if she was single. I stared at Benno, but Benno, who was treated like a parent and a child, was better off.

"Well, if you're not a parent or a child, you won't be able to..."

Johan said that with the face he gave up and tried to get up.

I grab the sleeve hastily. If Johann is looking for a patron, though he wanted to ask for a patron without any relation, this is a good opportunity.

"Mr. Benno, Mr. Benno. Ugh..."

Grabbing Johan's sleeve and turning my smile to Benno, Benno laid his hands on his temples as he had predicted, exhaling slowly.

"... you do it, don't you?

"Yep. I want Johan to make something."

"Okay. Give me permission as a guardian and I'll be the guarantor."

Benno waved gently with a patter and gave permission easily.

It was rather Johann's who was surprised that permission came out too easily.

"Um, the guarantor, if the patron's money runs out, instead..."

"You, the merchant wouldn't even know what a guarantor means, would you? Don't worry about it. In Mine's case, you don't have to hesitate to be a guarantor because you don't have to worry about losing your money."

Even if you run out of money, if you sell the picture book you're printing right now, Benno shrugged his shoulder that you can take it right away, and just sell how to make a candle that doesn't smell like it, and you can quickly collect about the amount of money invested in a blacksmith factory.

"Don't worry about the money, it means I pulled a good patron, you"

The big rich patrons want so much that everyone can get their hands out of their throats. Johan let Benno's words shine his face all the time.

"Wow, lady!

"It's not your daughter, it's Mine!

"Oh, I'm sorry. Will you be my patron, Mine...?

When he looked at me, Benno slapped Betsi gently on Johan's head, pondering what he would call him.

"Hey, are patrons basic to sampling? It doesn't look good for Mine because of his age and appearance, but he's the one who's going to invest for you."

"Excuse me, Master Mine"

Johan bows his head in panic.

I laughed lightly and waved, never mind. I don't care how you call me anything. Because it's not very important. What matters to me is the assignment piece that Johann is going to make.

"So I'm going to take the blueprints and list of things that Johann wants me to make to the workshop tomorrow."

Today, in the time to come, I'm going to put more effort on my arms to compile blueprints and how to make them. I was in the mood for my arm to ring, and Johann blinked as surprised.

"Huh? Yes, a list? Oh, you know, I've decided that there's one piece to make for the exam?

"Yeah, it's definitely one thing. They make typescripts, so it's all one thing."

The 35 basic characters used here have two types of letters in the same sound, such as uppercase and lowercase letters in the alphabet and Hiragana and Katakana in Japanese. Naturally, have them make both typescripts. Fifty vowels at a time, and 20 consonants at a time, would be enough for one first.

"If I'm going to be a patron, what I want you to make is a metal typeface. Though I think it's fine and very hard with the amount...... what do you do, Johann? Don't you regret turning me into a patron?

Explaining the typography lightly, it seemed an unexpected challenge, and Johann turned his eyes black and white to Benno and Lutz for help.

Benno and Lutz look at each other and nod gently.

"Listen carefully to what others say. I told you I'm a good patron in that I don't have to worry about money."

"If you don't think you can go about Mine's unscrupulous gesture, you should give up and look for other patrons. Because it's always like this."

Johann clenches his fist on his knees and closes his eyes tightly, to two words that he doesn't know if they are advising him or hunting him down.

After a while of patrolling, Johan looked at me with such strong eyes as bracketed his belly.

"... please. Be my patron."

I staked out during the day to make a requisition detailing the blueprints and how to make them. And the next morning I took it to the workshop.

I really didn't think I would bring it yesterday today, Johann was surprised, but I saw the requisition and was burning motivation, so I don't think it's a problem to leave it to him.

"Lutz, now you're one step closer to printing the print."

"... that sounds like fun, Mine"

"It's fun. Once we get through this, printing the hard copy is much closer. When Johann's typescript is ready, modify the press to make a printing press. But this is what you do in the spring. Gotta make plenty of money during the winter."

Ugh, and to cross my nose I head to the temple. Fran, who was waiting at the gate, crossed his hands and gently bent his knee.

"Good morning, Master Mine. Looks like you're feeling better."

"Hey, Fran. Mine today, it's pretty floating and exciting, so watch carefully. If I let it go, I'll laugh and heat it up and fall down."

To Rutz's words Fran raised his eyebrows lightly and looked at me. And with a gentle smile, I shake my head.

"Lutz, you don't have to worry so much. If Lord Mine wants to be in the temple, it means we have an important story to tell, and we are being called in by the Chief Cleric. You said you were going to use a hidden room, so I'm guessing Master Mine's floating mood will blow right away."

The chief cleric's hidden room is a sermon room for me. If I knew they were calling me to that room, I wouldn't have felt like I was floating away in no time.

"I've already blown up the mood for fun. What sermon would that be? I don't remember myself."

"Well, it's about Mine, so you unconsciously flaunted a lot of things, didn't you? Give it up and come mad at me."

Ha, and slap my shoulder in sigh lightly as Lutz grins.

"I'm watching the printing in the workshop."

"Ugh, I'm coming"

I changed into blue clothes in my room and today I was to head to the Cleric Chief's room without practicing fesh peel. Even as I walk heavily through it, I get to the Cleric Chief's room.

"Good morning, Chief Cleric."

"Oh, Mine. Good morning. Fran told you, didn't he? Come here."

With a slightly harsh face, the Chief Cleric heads to Stasta and the Hidden Room. This is a sermon for sure. I went into the concealed room opened by the chief cleric, holding the area around my stomach.

"Send me all the materials there."

Avoiding the material on the bench to the edge, as usual, when I tried to sit down, the clergyman said so and offered me his hand. I give all the materials on the bench together to the Chief Cleric.

I put the material on my desk with Basari, and the clergyman draws out Gatan and the chair as usual. However, I could see that I had a decorative ring with red stone on the goldsmith's hand and a bottle big enough to hide in the palm of my hand.

"Mine, drink this."

The chief cleric opens his hand and offers me the vial. Red liquid was shaking in a glass bottle that was a little thick and not so transparent.

"What is it, this?

"It's the medicine I formulated. Has the effect of making it easier to pass through magic. I need it to use this magic trick. Not to mention bitter, but to drink patiently."

The chief clergyman has poked a bottle of medicine in front of me with force that I can't let him say whether or not. If you told me that, I'd stop wanting to drink so badly. I have not yet forgotten the taste of that very evil medicine.

The golden eyes that were looking at me hesitant were softly narrowed, and the edge of the clergyman's lips rose slightly.

"Do you prefer to be picked on the nose and drugged down the throat?

I mean it. If the chief cleric thinks he needs it, he's the one who does it without changing one look.

As I sifted and shook my head, I received a vial containing the red medicine offered by the Chief Cleric.

"... I'll drink my own"

What the hell does it taste like this time? Fear I put my mouth close to the bottle. It doesn't smell so weird. If you drink slowly, you won't be able to drink any more at a bad time. I poured my temper into my mouth all at once.

"... hmm?

Nothing bitter or bad. Somewhat sweet and delicious.

"Chief Cleric, this is nothing painful or bad. Slightly sweet and delicious. I wish the healing pills were as good then."

Saying so remembering the taste of the medicine, which was a murderous bitterness, as he gave the emptied bottle to the Cleric Chief, the Cleric looked out for him unexpectedly.

"Did you feel sweet?

"Yes. Yes, but?

"... well. Well, fine. Put this on."

The chief cleric offered me a gold ring with a red stone in his hand. It is useless to resist, so I took it quietly.

"What is it, this? What can I do?

"All you have to do is put that demon stone on your forehead."

As the chief priest saith, I will put a red stone upon my forehead, so that I may wear a ring. It shrugged to my size, as it did when I borrowed a magic ring, and it got into perfect shape, like a circlet.

"Chief Cleric, you called this a magic tool, didn't you? What is it?

"I used to ask my lord, but it finally arrived"

"Um, what do you use it for... hmm? Oh, that?

Immediately after wearing the circlet, a tremendous drowsiness struck me. My head turns white, and as a crease, my lid goes down at will.

"Oh, that? Why? Sleepy......"

"Lie still and sleep slowly. You don't have to fight it."

The word of the Chief Cleric sounds blurry. Even though I hear you, it feels like it takes a while to understand and it takes a curtain on my consciousness.

For one thing, I was told there was no need to resist, so I left myself to the attacking sleeper, and I took the position of sleeping as usual. Pull out the tweezer, take off your shoes, and lay down in the bench with a gobble. As you lay down your body, your consciousness immediately tries to fall into the abyss.

"Oh, Sumi... no"

As I squeezed my last strength and greeted him, I felt the clergyman's fingertips scratch my forehead. The chief cleric is nearby or his voice sounds a lot nearer as it is blown directly into his ear.

"This is so much magic equipment for exploring memories that the lord has to try them immediately that the culprits and witnesses of a serious incident have not spoken lies.... I'll show you the world of dreams you said."
