Ascendance of a Bookworm

gossip day temple chief first part

I'm Wilfried, 7 years old.

I finished the baptism ceremony in the spring, so even though I'm Rosemayne's older brother, I don't like Rosemayne being a lot sloppier.

Rosemaine is the only one who is free to leave or enter the castle, who is not accompanied by a teacher, who is studying magic first, and who is praised by her father and mother at dinner time.

"Rosemaine is in trouble," Lamprecht said, "but it's decided to lie about sheltering her sister. What the hell can Rosemaine do to fall and die soon after just a little run?

After breakfast, on my way back to my room after basic training with the knight apprentices, I just met Rosemayne, who came down the stairs. It's unusual for Rosemayne to be in the castle since around the time 3 bells rang.

After my eyes met, I was immediately distracted, so I knew immediately that I was going to go to Father's. I can't believe Rosemayne is allowed to go even though I'm told not to interrupt Father's errand...

"Is this your father's again?... It's sloppy."

"Brother Wilfried, if you say it's sloppy, sloppy, that's all, why don't you change your life with me for a day?

I thought he was going to yell back at me again, and Rosemayne has suggested so, leaning her neck in a quiet way. I don't know what that means, and I tilt my neck, too.

"Hmm? What do you mean?

"I have something to report to my adoptive father today. When that was over, we had lunch here, and we were going back to the temple, but Brother Wilfried was going to the temple as temple chief instead of me. The period should run from lunch today to lunch tomorrow. We have meetings and reflections over lunch. I will study on behalf of Brother Wilfried."

"That's a good idea!

Doesn't Rosemaine's suggestion mean that I can leave the castle all day and spend as much time as I want where there are no loud teachers or sidelines?

"Dear Mr. Wilfried! Dear Rosemaine!"

I yelled at him with a scared face when Lamprecht preached. Rosemaine, yelling at me and wondering if I was going to cry, just raised her eyebrows lightly, staring up at Lamprecht with her golden eyes like the moon.

"Brother Lamprecht... No, Lamprecht, for those who don't know by mouth, you should let them experience it once. I come to speak to my adoptive father. Brother Wilfried, if you'll excuse us, we'll be together by the end of the boring report."

When Lamprecht was silenced with words like adults, Rosemayne put out strange things. Get in on it and start moving.

"What is this!?

"It's my horseman. My foster father gave me permission because I was about to fall in the hall."

"I don't have a horseman yet, but it's all rosemary, it's sloppy!

"Please get dressed quickly. I'll be waiting for you in your foster father's office."

That being said, Rosemayne moves the horseman away as fast as an adult walks. I want a ride with those feet moving a little too.

"... that's the horseman? No, no... Huh? It's like a slightly larger Grune."

"Hurry up, Lamprecht!

Hurrying a blinking lamprecht, I went back to my room and had my body lightly wiped and finished dressing. And hurry to your father's office.

When the knight standing at the door saw me, he opened the office door. I move on with a little thrill into my father's office, where I enter for the first time.

Inside the room was Calstead, his father and his escort, then Rosemayne, who was holding a paper with something written with Ferdinand as his father's assistant.

"Wilfried, who, are you serious about switching lives with Rosemaine? Stop it."

You had already talked about it, Father opens his mouth and disagrees.

My father stopped me headless, and it was at the same time that I was annoyed and Rosemaine stepped forward and argued with my father.

"Brother Wilfried wants it. Please give it to me."

"... rosemaine"

I didn't expect my sister to be on my side to say something busy. Rosemayne looked up at Ferdinand as she felt her breasts gin.

"Master Ferdinand promised me that you would take my mood. And it was your adoptive father who ordered Master Ferdinand to do that, wasn't it?

"If you can't do the challenge by keeping Vilfleet for a day, there's nothing different about me"

Ferdinand, who has not much to talk to me, nods satisfactorily, taking my side. Father finally made a bitter face.

But I never even thought about Ferdinand taking my side over my father. Too uncommonly, Rosemaine grinned at her father as I opened my eyes.

"I am tired of being told that whenever I look at each other, it is sloppy. Besides, I think it's time to look at the orphanage, be in your shoes, do what you need to do, and be made aware. If you don't review your education policy, you won't be able to take it back."

"... Ferdinand, is this their education? Smile and start spitting poison."

Ferdinand and Rosemayne's answers overlapped in a voice with a mixed sigh of father.

"Originally"

"It's an educational achievement."

"Enough. Okay. If Vilfleet wants it, you can try replacing it for a day. I stopped. … I'm done talking."

Father waves gently, urging him to leave the room. Me and Rosemayne left the room together. From the father who was opposed at first, he won.

"Let's go back to your room, Brother Wilfried"

Rosemaine started moving at the same speed as I did earlier, on an unusual horseback. I said "put it on" because it sounds interesting, but "it's for one person," Bassari said no.

"Okay, take your place. I need a ride."

I let Rosemaine take turns, but I can't move the horseman. I grabbed something black and round, like Rosemaine was doing, and tried to shed magic, but it doesn't move at all.

"The horseman is something that moves with magic, and he says that basically the only person who can move it because he's registering magic. Though it seems we can do as much magic as we can."

That's what Rosemayne said, urging me to come down. Fluffy seating and really good. If I also become to have my own horseman, I decide in my heart to make it such a horseman.

"Brother Wilfried, let's have a meeting at lunch. I must give instructions to the side of the temple, and I will now write to you."

"Okay. It's lunchtime, right?

Between lunch, it was supposed to be morning study time, but going to the temple today meant leaving teachers to prepare costumes and belongings.

"You should teach Rosemaine plenty in the afternoon"

When my leading service explains the situation to the teacher, the teacher exhales as if he had given up and leaves. I laughed small, imagining Rosemaine's troubled face from this afternoon that Rosemaine would see how hard I was too.

Rosemaine had told me that it would be good if I had packed my clothes, so my preparation was over early.

I rarely leave the castle. It was the first time my parents and I went to the Hall of Calstead for Rosemaine's christening.

"He's not the son of a lord in the temple, he's the head of the temple. Please do your job properly. I will tell you so that you can also treat my side of the service as temple chief. Don't expect me to spoil you."

I pointed my lips slightly at Rosemaine's words as we grabbed lunch together. Isn't it Rosemaine who is spoiled without being attached to a teacher?

"Don't say that. I'm not spoiled."

"Then you don't have to spoil my side of the service to have a particular problem"

"Of course."

As I stretched my chest and nodded loudly, Lamprecht, the escort standing behind me, murmured worryingly, "Dear Rosemayne, it's..."

"There will be no shortage of life because the temple's side service will be with both men and women. However, the temple has rooms for escorts, but not for the side service of the aristocratic class. So I ask Lamprecht to head to the temple about Brother Wilfried. I've been to the temple many times, so you'll be used to it."

"... Yes, sir."

He is my escort knight and Rosemayne's brother, so I guess Lamprecht was chosen. Lamprecht's mood seemed clear in response that he had no choice.

"I'm going to change my life, so I'm going to use Brother Wilfried's room, too. Please forgive me for including Richarda, the lead sidekick, because the sidekick is all you have."

"Uhm, that's good"

Lamprecht was to go to the temple together, but the rest changes entirely. All the noisy servants stay here with Rosemaine. I am free.

At the end of lunch I let Lamprecht hold the baggage with the change of clothes and headed to the front door. At the front door were two escort knights and Ferdinand waiting to accompany Rosemayne as she headed to the temple.

"Dear Ferdinand, please don't tell Fran to think of me as mentoring Brother Wilfried. And this is the schedule for the day. I have Lamprecht on my desk, so I know you won't be late for work."

"Okay. Okay, Wilfried. I'm going to treat you as the head of the temple for a day."

Because of Ferdinand's rare laughter, Rosemayne took a step back, with a flat face, though deliberately around.

"We weren't ready for the carriage because we were going to travel by beast. Wilfried is like riding with Lamprecht. Let's go!"

Ferdinand let out the lion's horseman, and when he rode on it, he rushed out toward the great sky. This one is cooler than Rosemaine's Riding Beast.

Oh, and watching with emotion, Lamprecht took out the horseman in the same way.

"Lamprecht, what is this?

"It's an animal used for our crest. I say wolf."

Hugged up by Lamprecht, I rode the beast for the first time. It's harder to sit and a little stiff compared to Rosemaine's horseback, but it's really cool.

He spread his feathers wide with the bass, and rushed to the sky. I feel my body gushing over my floating senses. I can't believe I was going through this first, I knew Rosemaine was sloppy.

"If I make a horseman, will I be a lion?

"Yes, the son of a lord can make a lion with one head and three heads on the crest when Lord Wilfried becomes lord"

I've never seen your father's riding beast, but that's your father. Must be very cool. I was thinking of the lion riding beast I would make, and I was hacked.

"... although Rosemaine's horseman was not a lion?

"That was special. I've never seen a rider like that before."

I reached the temple while we talked a little bit. The temple is a building at the edge of a white aristocratic town and a brown, messy place.

"What's that brown, dirty place?

"It's a lower town inhabited by civilians. It's not a place for Mr. Wilfried."

"Phew..."

When the horseman descended to the temple, a man dressed in gray was picking him up. And look at me, with my eyes round.

"Fran, take this. It's from Rosemaine."

When I saw Ferdinand coming down from the Horsebeast giving the man a letter from Rosemaine, I found out that this man was serving Rosemaine's side.

"Wilfried, he's Fran. Leading service in the temple of Rosemaine. Listen carefully to him while he is in the temple. Fran, it's gonna be hard for you to deal with them alone, so I'm gonna go around with you."

"I'm afraid so, Chief Cleric. Now, let's make a new call, Dear Wilfried."

"Uhm."

Thus I was sent to the temple chief's office, which Rosemaine uses. And he was told he would only be temple chief for a day to serve Rosemaine, and he was dressed in white from the top of the clothes he was wearing now. This seems to be the temple chief's costume.

"What would you prefer for tea?

While Fran was reading Rosemaine's letter, a side service called Nicolas made me a delicious cup of tea and served me a treat I had never had before. When placed in the mouth, it breaks loose and melts, and the sweetness spreads into the mouth.

"I've never had such sweets. Rosemaine is still sloppy."

I can't believe you're eating all the delicious food in the temple, and when I took another treat, she heard my words and Nicola looked at me with a glow on her face.

"This treat was conceived by Rosemayne, so if you want a treat you've never had, you should make your own, too, Wilfried. Does Master Wilfried know of any new treats? I like to make it."

Nicola laughs with her eyes full of anticipation, "though I prefer to eat more," but there's no way I know, such as a treat I've never had.

... Rosemaine thought it was a treat, huh? Is it something you can think of like confectionery?

Leaning my neck, I eat shades and sweets. Lamprecht's "Can't you lower it?" When the word came out, there were only a few left.

Lower it a little sparingly.

While I was drinking tea, I saw Fran say something to the side service called Monica and Monica leaving the room early.

And Ferdinand, dressed in blue, came in, as he expected to finish his tea. I saw it at Rosemaine's christening ceremony, it's the chief cleric's clothes.

"According to Rosemayne's schedule, he's getting a report today at the orphanage and is supposed to go around the workshop. The escort knights are Lamprecht and Darmuel. Flan and Monica are the sidekicks."

Side service and the female knight who came into the room with the chief cleric took a step back. I left the room, walked down the corridor, and headed to another building.

"This is an orphanage where children without parents are gathered."

I opened the door. It's a room as big as a hall, with lots of big, crude wooden tables lined up.

It's an orphanage cafeteria, Fran said. As I strolled my gaze from rarity, it caught my eye that those on the spot were waiting on their knees all the time.

"Chief Temple, Chief Cleric, please sit here."

I was to be seated on a boards of swooping trees, and although I frowned, Ferdinand sat there with a natural face.

"I hear you have a report for the Temple Chief today. The person in charge should immediately step forward and report."

"Yes."

An orange-haired woman came in and started making unmistakable reports at me. Ferdinand frowned and listened, writing something on the board Fran held in his hand.

"... what are you talking about?

"This is the January financial report for the orphanage."

"Isn't that none of my business"

The next moment, Ferdinand bashed me in the head. I don't understand what happened, the impact is stronger, and I hold my head and blink.

Lamprecht opened his eyes wide as a little too, and looked at Ferdinand.

"Dear Ferdinand!?

"... na!? Hey, huh!?

Words don't even come out of daze. Gradually I began to feel the pain with a ginger fever and I said, "What are you doing!?" and stared at Ferdinand.

"You idiot. Rosemaine is the head of the temple and serves as the orphan dean. There's no way it has anything to do with the person who said he was going to replace the job. I don't know, but shut up and listen. This is Rosemaine's job."

Even though I am angry, Ferdinand stares back at me and scolds me.

Because I regret it, I said, "Let's just get this boring thing over with," and mumbled at the woman who makes a report that I don't understand, but the woman just laughed when she shrugged.

You look disgusted by me, but you don't stop reporting, and I'm going to read the report out to the end.

I was so bored that I got out of my chair and tried to look around inside the orphanage that Ferdinand twisted my thoughtful thighs.

"It hurts, Ferdinand! Do what!?

"Like, shut up and listen, you didn't hear me? Or did you not understand? What's wrong with your head or your ears? Both?"

Ferdinand joins words so that he frowns, narrows his eyes, and makes a heartfelt fool of himself. I've never been insulted like this before.

The moment I stood up and tried to slap Ferdinand with blood on my head, on the contrary, Ferdinand grabbed my head gassily and pressed me into the chair.

"Sit down and listen to me in silence. Got it?

"Ugg...... Lamprecht!"

Calling Lamprecht's name, who says he's my escort, but doesn't even try to help, Ferdinand puts more effort into his fingers grabbing his head.

"How many times do I have to tell you to understand? Sit down, shut up and listen."

I laughed when the kids that I saw held up by Ferdinand creaked over there. "I wonder why you don't know?" "I'm just listening to you," I hear.

"Kee, listen, get your hands off me!

"Don't bother your surrounding hands with something that doesn't make any more sense. Fool."

Ferdinand finally let go of his hand, honking his nose with Hun. The pain persists as if the shape of the finger remains on the head again.

... Damn, you Ferdinand!

I couldn't even get down the chair until the woman's report was over, and I was staring at Ferdinand on the side with mundane anger.

"That's it for this month's report. We have some discussions with Fran, so why don't the Temple Chief play in Carta with the kids?

When I reacted to the word play and saw Ferdinand, Ferdinand nodded slowly when I saw the kids over there.

"... okay"

I could finally get out of my chair. Take Lamprecht and Dermuel to where there are many children.

"What's a carta?

"I'll tell you. Let's do it together."

"Uhm."

If you're an adult, you've never lost a kid to visit a castle. I have to show my amazing things to the kids who laughed at me earlier.

"I will read this reading card. Everyone else takes from the picture tags lined up there, the first letters taking the same with the same picture as the contents of the reading tags. It's a game where the person who takes the most wins. This is the first time you've seen a temple chief, so you can stay with an adult escort."

Sure, I'm new to this, and my opponents are always playing, so maybe it's just enough to fight with Lamprecht. It's what they said, and it's not cowardly.

That's what I thought, Lamprecht and I joined together and started Karta, but as many kids as I started reading cards.

"You can read the letters? I can't read it yet, but it's amazing."

With admiration I praised, not only rejoicing, but all the children there blinked their eyes with a strange face and tilted their necks.

"... Huh? You're the temple chief, and you can't read it?

"Rosemayne made this carta and picture book so anyone can read it in the orphanage."

"Oh, I can't just read Dirk yet. That baby......"

Pointing to a baby crawling on the floor chasing a red-haired child and saying so. It's natural for kids here to be able to read letters and say that only babies smaller than Merhior can't.

... I mean, you think I'm just like that baby?

In the end, in Karta, Lamprecht only took one bill that was in front of him, and everything else.

"That's an unmatched miserable defeat. If the child included in the parent is not the other person, the child is to that extent."

"Dear Ferdinand! Your words…"

"It's a fact. Face it."

"We're going next," said Ferdinand, laughing with his nose.

Then go through the men's wing of the orphanage to the workshop. There were those who were making something while their hands and faces were blackened. From as much as I am to as many adults. It feels weird that everyone is wearing crude clothes.

"Instead of Lord Rosemayne, this is Lord Wilfried, who will head the temple for a day."

When Fran introduced him, the two boys knelt down on the spot and began to greet him.

"Blessed be the fruitful day of Szeria, the goddess of the wind, for the encounter guided by the gods"

I'm not very good at it yet, but I'm going with my magic in the ring.

"Bless the new encounter"

I did quite well today. Um, he nodded small and looked up at Lamprecht, who also laughed nicely and nodded lightly.

"Lutz, Gill, stand up both of you. Looks like he was calling Rosemayne today. What can I do for you? Today Vilfleet is supposed to deal with it on his behalf"

"Now that the new picture book is complete, I was going to dedicate it. Please give this to Master Rosemaine. And give this one to Master Wilfried. Please pick it up as a sign of proximity."

Receive the two books offered before me. It's just a crude bundle of paper. There's no cover, and it's thin and small.

"Picture books?... What do you do with these things?

"You're going to read. I was looking forward to finishing what Rosemayne started to make."

... that this was also made by Rosemaine?

I looked at a picture book with a large white and black painting on it. Letters are written there just like Carta's.

I glanced at the picture book with para, then I glanced at the two of them. With confident eyes, the two with breasts don't look so old as me.

"... can they read this book, too?

"Of course it is. Because if you can't read it, you won't get a job."

"I studied hard," laughs the purple-eyed child as if she was good at it.

"Sure, it may be rare for civilians to read, but if you need it for work, even civilians will study it. It may be disrespectful to give a picture book to someone who can't read it in person for the first time, but since nobility can naturally read it, it can't be disrespectful, can it?

Feeling terrified, a child with green eyes takes confirmation with Ferdinand.

Ferdinand glances at this one with a cold gaze to ridicule me, then gently flaunts his shoulder.

"Well, if you're educated as a nobleman, you should naturally be able to read it. Don't be rude to noble opponents."

"I'm relieved"

... that even civilians can read it if they need it, and nobles deserve it?

I looked down at the picture book as I pulled my face.
