Chapter 69. Playing Dirty.
Aiden was asleep on his couch.
Suddenly, his eyes snapped open.
" Someone is at the door?" Aiden thought.
" It’s past midnight. Who at all could it be?" Aiden thought.
His eyes turned crimson as he scanned across the perimeter.
He relaxed.
"It’s her?" Aiden thought. His eyes returned to their normal black color.
Desmonda Creed.
She was currently clad in a hoodie, jeans and sneakers. Her blue hair was combed neatly and along her neck.
What the hell was she doing here?
Aiden sighed and decided to return back to sleep.
" She will eventually leave," he thought.
However, Desmonda rang the doorbell.
" She’s not going to leave I suppose." Begrudgingly, he stood up and went to the door. It was not like he could sleep anymore anyway. He already felt refreshed. He had been sleeping for the past four hours.
He opened it.
" Thought you were not around," Desmonda said. " Was about to leave. May I come in?"
Aiden nodded politely. "Sure."
He led her to the living room. Desmonda sat down.
" Tea? Coffee? Drinks? Snacks?" Aiden asked.
"Snacks will do," she said.
Aiden nodded, then excused himself to the fridge.
Desmonda sat on the sofa.
Her apartment was destroyed during the beast tide and was currently being renovated.
She decided to come here and spar with Aiden to kill time. She had initially contacted Seraphina and Candice. Apparently, they were not on campus. They were yet to return to campus with Asmodeus and Luke. Something about briefly heading back to Harland City because their parents wanted them to attend a weekend gala.
"It’s a relief mum and dad are safe. Also, nothing happened to Aiden and the others. Didn’t know I had grown quite fond of these guys though," She thought as she noticed something arranged close to the tv.
" He’s a gamer huh? Interesting. Well if I remember correctly, he was playing a game on his phone in Luke’s car on the day we took the pocket world mission," She thought. "This guy is literally like a regular person on any regular day. That’s what makes him very dangerous. If you don’t know him, he looks like your everyday civilian. The only thing that would make him stand out is his good looks. It’s not weird for a warrior to have normal hobbies. After all, I play adventure games too. But there’s just something about this guy that makes him look too normal that seeing him turn into a mad person on the battlefield makes him very puzzling and dangerous."
As she was in thought, she felt someone staring at her.
She slowly looked up. Aiden was standing there with the snacks and drinks in his hand.
" What’s up?" Aiden said. "I’ve been calling your name for the last few seconds."
" Was I so absorbed in my thoughts that I literally didn’t notice him arriving with my naturally enhanced senses as a warrior?. So much so that even when he called my name I could not hear him?" Desmonda thought. "What the hell is happening to me?"
She shook her head and brushed her thoughts away.
" Oh..sorry. The beast tide had its toll on us all. Was just thinking about it," She replied.
Aiden nodded. " Sure. Here you go."
He gently handed over the snacks on a tray to her and sat at the side.
He also started to enjoy his portion of the snacks.
Desmonda started to enjoy his.
The duo sat in comfortable silence. A few moments passed.
After Desmonda became more comfortable and eased into the environment, Aiden asked.
"What’s up?"
" Oh.. well my villa is being rebuilt. Was destroyed in the beast tide. Contacted Seraphina and Candice to see if I could spend the night at their place, but apparently they returned to Harland City with Asmodeus and Luke for a weekend gala." She took a sip of the juice and continued, "So I figured might as well come over for that spar I asked you for."
Aiden didn’t find anything absurd with her words.
Inasmuch as he had his boundaries even though they were now friends, he didn’t see the need to tell her to leave. He was intentional about building his relationship with the five of them. And her being here did not inconvenience him in any way.
" Alright. No problem," Aiden replied.
" You keep looking at the console. Do you play games?" He said.
" Yeah. Not really much of an outsider. I usually spend time indoors so I spend time watching movies and gaming. Care to play? After all, it’s been a long day. We could use some recreation," Desmonda said.
" Thought you were here to spar with me?" Aiden said.
"Well yeah, that was the plan till I saw the console." Desmonda didn’t know what to say. This guy was trying to tease her? Interesting. So he had this side to him huh. It was refreshing to realize he could be so casual with his friends.
" Alright. Turn on the console and bring the gamepad over. I have one here," Aiden said with a chuckle.
" Why are you laughing? You think you can beat me?" Desmonda walked to the console and brought the wireless game pad over after turning on the console.
" What do you wanna play?" Desmonda said.
" You decide. I can beat you at your own game," Aiden replied.
" Oh. Cocky bastard," Desmonda said.
Aiden widened his eyes slightly. " You know, for someone who claims to be so quiet, did anyone ever tell you that you have a habit of catching everyone by surprise at times?"
" Well I hardly get that because I hardly make friends," Desmonda replied. "I prefer befriending those with similar values. Hard to find people like myself."
Aiden nodded. She was right. He had the same mindset concerning relationships.
" Fair point," He said.
" Oh, you chose power masters 3?"
" Yeah. Scared now?"
" Bring it on."
" Heh. Hey that’s not fair."
" No one told you to lose concentration."
" That does not count Aiden."
" How about this?"
" You..."
" You should focus and stop complaining."
" That’s playing dirty. Did you just KO me when we were having a conversation?"
" Conversation? The game has started ma’am. I won fair and square."
" You won’t get me in the next round!"
