Chapter 124. Stepping on a landmine
Southern Continent.
Eldorath Empire.
Hessington State.
Toothill International Airport.
It was currently dawn. The humidity was very high.
But the airport was always busy. The weather was extremely cold for ordinary people.
Several individuals came out of an airplane.
Most of them were very jetlagged at the moment, due to the slight time difference between Derulo City and Toothill City.
A fellow with an average face and a tall build stepped out of the plane. He blended in with the crowd quietly.
This young man was naturally Aiden. He spent the last of his contribution points on campus before he graduated to order large amounts of face-altering creams. He needed them for his plans in the military, during missions in Eldorath Empire territory when assassinations would be paramount.
He entered a washroom at Derulo International Airport after he separated with Desmonda and the others. He applied one of the creams before he boarded the plane. This was what had led to his current appearance.
Because of this, he did not have any assassination attacks during the journey.
"This cream will wear off very soon. I can’t apply another one on my face now anyway. I need to show my actual appearance to get on the aircraft. My appearance must match my ID in the Empire Military Database after all," Aiden thought.
He quickly ordered a cab after leaving the airport residential area.
The streets of Toothill City were like the classical city.
As Aiden sat in the cab, he observed the surroundings.
Normal villas and houses blurred. Eventually, skyscrapers appeared. Car horns blared.
"Shit. Traffic," the driver cursed.
He looked at the average-looking customer comfortably seated at the back of his car and scrolling through his phone.
"Sorry about the inconvenience, sir," the driver explained. "Toothill City is always like this at night and during dawn on weekends. Night shifts are basically the worst. The people here are like bats on weekends. They club a lot on weekends so by morning, traffic is paramount."
Aiden looked at the driver politely.
"No problem, sir."
He returned to his phone. He was currently late on a novel he had been reading a couple of weeks ago. So, he was trying to catch up.
The driver nodded politely and tuned up the music.
Suddenly, a car adjacent to his own almost slammed into the car in an attempt to beat the traffic.
"Watch where you are going, punk!" the driver shouted angrily at the blond-haired youngster seated in the other car.
The blond-haired fellow driving the other car gave Aiden’s driver the middle finger.
The blond-haired fellow looked at the average-looking guy, Aiden, and snorted annoyingly as his car bolted off.
"What the hell was that guy’s problem?" the driver sighed. He turned to look at his passenger. "You know that dude?"
Aiden shrugged. "Not really."
The driver replied, "He must have been drunk or something, fucking youngsters these days!"
Eventually, the car eased out of the traffic. The buildings blurred as the car increased its speed.
Very soon, they arrived in front of Toothill City University.
The car entered the campus.
The skies were now bright and clear. The campus was very lively as students moved across the place and cars moved about.
By now, it was 6:00 AM, according to the cab’s time.
The campus was very large. It took about 40 minutes for the car to arrive at Aiden’s target destination after rounding several buildings.
The car pulled to a stop in front of a large open area.
A large aircraft was on the ground. Several young people in their twenties and early thirties were currently standing in front of the aircraft.
"Thank you," Aiden thanked the driver politely, paid him, and got out of the vehicle.
"You’re welcome, sir," the driver said as his car turned around and drove off, a look of astonishment in his eyes. This young, average-looking fellow was a warrior. After all, this was Warrior University Campus.
He was so glad he did not offend his passenger.
As for Aiden, he walked towards the aircraft where the other warriors had gathered.
"I heard The Crimson Reaper was also joining us. He’s been deployed to base C322."
"That monster?"
"Aiden Vhorn? He’s seriously on another level."
"Yeah. I wonder how he actually looks like in person."
"They say he looks fairly ordinary. One would never even suspect that he’s a warrior."
"Yeah. A friend of mine from Airo City University said that about 11 months ago, some dude offended him in one of the Airo City warriors association branches. Apparently, the bastard didn’t recognize the Crimson Reaper and offended him because of how normal he looked. The Crimson Reaper literally crushed him with a single slap."
"Really?"
"I’m sure that was when he was on his way to Burning Sands City. To think he would pull off such a terrifying thing in Burning Sands. The Massacre of Burning Sands literally left chills crawling down my spine. He even managed to close a rank 2 gate on his own. Is he even human?"
"Did you watch the video about what he did in Derulo City recently?"
"I saw it. I heard he had some vendetta with those industries in the city in the past. He actually made them transfer all their assets to those connected to him before he slaughtered them all. He’s literally something else. The fact that we are heading to the same base with him is even putting pressure on me. How are we supposed to compete with someone like that?"
The effects of Aiden’s face-altering cream had not yet worn off so, no one realized he was among the recruits to be sent to base C322, standing right beside them.
Suddenly, a fancy car pulled to a stop in front of the group.
A fellow swaggered out of the car.
Everyone saw him.
Aiden naturally recognized the guy. It was the blond-haired fellow who caused a ruckus during the ride here. The one who gave the driver the middle finger.
Turns out he was a recruit too.
Aiden naturally ignored the fellow and waited silently. He was texting Desmonda to inform the others that he had arrived and was about to board the aircraft.
Suddenly, whispers spread across the place.
"Is that him? Hanu?"
"The top ranker of Vanson City University?"
"They said he became a legendary rank 2 warrior in just three and half years!"
"Yeah. He’s very powerful. Apparently, he’s from a normal family too. He is really exceptional to have come this far on his own."
"Yeah. But he has become arrogant. People have been calling him a genius so it has gotten into his head. They say he made a statement that he could take on Aiden Vhorn with just his finger."
"What? Does this bastard know the difference between the sky and the earth?"
The fellow saw Aiden. He recognized Aiden.
"Is this not the dude I met earlier? Thanks to him, that fragile driver had the guts to insult me." Hanu walked over to the average-looking dude minding his business. He had to teach this bastard a lesson.
Was he even supposed to be here in the first place? He didn’t even look like a warrior.
"Is he walking towards that dude?"
"Who is that loner anyway?"
"Hanu is definitely trying to pick on him."
Hanu reached where Aiden was standing. He looked on Aiden’s phone screen and saw the chat screen.
"Hey, is that your girlfriend you are chatting with? How about you give me her number and I will let you off gently," Hanu said.
Suddenly, Aiden looked at him calmly.
The face he saw left him completely paralysed!
Aiden’s face-altering cream’s effect had worn off!
