Chapter 132. The Real Trap
The moment the assassins entered the Ashen Wasteland, several beginner rank 3 chaotic beasts looked in their direction.
Were these humans the ones that had been killing their comrades?
They knew something was off! Finally, they had caught the perpetrators.
One of the assassins screamed as volcanic liquid shot out of the ground and steamed him. He screamed painfully and turned into a charred corpse.
"Shit. I knew coming here was a bad idea!"
"Damn it!"
"Even the one who motivated us to come here is dead. We need to leave this place. This place is bad news... augrrhh."
The rest started choking after inhaling the poisonous fog. However, they were not even allowed to die.
Several crimson silhouettes flickering in and out of the fog shot towards them.
When the crimson silhouettes flashed across them, only charred corpses of the assassins remained behind.
The assassins were all dead. The beginner rank 3 chaotic beasts killed them all.
The assassins had not even been in the wasteland for a day. Yet, they were all dead. This was how terrifying the Ashen Wasteland was.
Aiden observed everything from deep in the wasteland. He was still hiding in the floating crimson amoeba-like construct he had made.
He closed his eyes and absorbed the blood essence of the corpses of the assassins from his location, since they were in a three-kilometer radius.
After that, he kept killing rank 2 chaotic beasts and kept absorbing their blood essence.
Suddenly, the grounds shook and started to crack. Something rose from the depths of the ground.
Several beginner rank 3 chaotic beasts currently in Aiden’s vicinity suddenly saw themselves staring at a huge mouth.
However, they were too slow to do anything about the mouth. The mouth closed and they disappeared.
"Shit." Aiden felt chills crawl up his spine.
What the hell was that?
A giant salamander? Those creatures were bad news. Considering how it also swallowed hundreds of beginner rank 3 chaotic beasts, it was most likely an intermediate rank 3 chaotic beast; it could kill him with a single move.
A glint flashed through his eyes.
Aiden bolted. The amoeba-like construct shifted through the air with extreme speed.
The salamander noticed the floating amoeba construct. It mistook it for a chaotic beast and followed after it.
Aiden was calm. Although he was nervous and knew he could die, now was not the time to lose his cool.
He made a hole in the construct and came out through the hole.
Aiden shot towards another direction, crimson wings on his back, fully clad in a crimson armor. He moved with uncanny speed and enhanced senses at a level he did not have previously, courtesy of absorbing the blood essence of several corpses here. His power was still nowhere near getting to the level of beginner rank 3. But he was stronger than he was before.
A glint flashed through his eyes. The crimson amoeba-like construct he had left wiggled and shifted into multiple blood constructs. Aiden made them very large and obvious. One looked like a wyvern. Another looked like a rhino. Another looked like a python. There were several others of different shapes.
They were so numerous that they blotted out the skies.
However, a glint flashed through the cold eyes of the giant salamander.
"So it’s a human, huh," she thought. "Does he think I’m stupid? He’s using his affinity to make elemental constructs that look like chaotic beasts. He wants to use them to distract me? Has this human forgotten that exposing himself will make me hunt him? Doesn’t he know human meat is delicious and enhances the power of beasts? Well, I can’t let an opportunity like this slip by."
The giant salamander brought her paw down.
Crimson flames streaked across its crimson figure and gathered together in her paw. The temperature heated up considerably. Aiden felt his crimson armor was starting to melt.
Shit... he cursed and gritted his teeth in pain. He was anxious but calm. Blobs of blood appeared before him and shot towards the crimson armor, reinforcing it. His skin was also starting to melt. However, his regeneration kicked in and healed him. But if he didn’t leave this place soon, he would die.
The crimson flame from the salamander’s paw shot towards him with extreme speed, one unlike anything he had ever seen. It was very overbearing and fast, arriving several meters away from him in the blink of an eye.
"Fortunately, it took the bait," Aiden thought.
The plan was to make the salamander think he was using the blood constructs to distract it. It was to make the salamander think it had caught on to his plan. This way, it would ignore the blood constructs completely and pursue him.
However, the actual traps were the blood constructs. Aiden was using the colossal beast-shaped blood constructs to draw out other overlord chaotic beasts lurking in the Ashen Wasteland. This was why he made them so large. A battle was bound to break out between the overlords of the area and the salamander when that happened. If the battle broke out, all the chaotic beasts in the wasteland would be collateral damage.
When that happened, he would hide somewhere and observe. If any of the chaotic beasts died, he’d just absorb their blood essence.
As the crimson flame headed towards Aiden, he flapped his crimson wings and spun ridiculously. His enhanced senses, sight, smell, and hearing operated efficiently. His battlefield instincts, honed through life-and-death experiences, kicked in.
Aiden was able to narrowly evade the attack. However, half of his body was gone. Completely burnt. Aiden had never been in such a vulnerable position like this before.
The flame swept past him and crashed into the ground, turning it into a crater several kilometers deep.
"Shit." He coughed a mouthful of blood as pain shot through his body. "At least I didn’t die."
His regeneration kicked in as he staggered to the edge of the Ashen Wasteland. He fell at the edge of the wasteland. He could not move. But this was enough. There was an 80 percent chance that his gamble would pay off.
Aiden’s gaze narrowed and peered into the wasteland. The colossal salamander was heading his direction from within the Ashen Wasteland.
"This bastard is very persistent," Aiden sighed as he coughed a mouthful of blood.
"Fortunately, the other overlords should be arriving soon." He stared at his large crimson constructs, floating somewhere in the wasteland.
The colossal salamander was nearing Aiden with each step, crossing large distances with each step it took.
Suddenly, several loud roars resounded in the wasteland.
The salamander turned. The expression in its eyes changed.
"About time," Aiden sighed in relief. It worked.
