Ashes and Kingdoms

3-6. Fallen Legion

The structure of the barracks is basically the same wherever you go throughout the empire. Finn reached the Command Office without getting lost. He was stopped at several places along the way, but was released as soon as he showed the sealed letter. Finn frowns when he realizes that the eyes of the soldiers dropping himself off are floating strangely complex colors.

I wear the breasts and swords, which are Legion supplies, but I'm wondering what the circumstances are because they look too blurry and some are of age. It wasn't until I turned eighteen that I joined the Legion, and Finn is too old for that. If you are a recruit who has just entered, it is unusual to be chosen as an envoy.

Even subtracting just those reasons, their attitude was bizarre.

(I'm just here for help.)

I've brought the wrong thing in the wrong place - I get that feeling.

The thought soon turned to certainty after meeting the Eighth Legion Commander, Dilgius. He does not speak a word of labor, and when he receives the letter given by Finn in a frigid manner, he opens his eyes unconstitutionally and looks through...

"Hung."

He shouted his nose in the face.

Finn glanced at the other person unbelievably. What's this guy's reaction when his friends are asking for help?

"At any rate, think of more excuses."

Dilgius pounded his tongue and roared, throwing the script to the floor. The clams and dry noises are too light. It was no longer just a piece of paper - losing the weight of the lives of thousands of Nanais citizens.

"Heh... why, no!

Unexpectedly stuffed fins, Dilgius looked neglected. Finn shrugs back in fright at the ominousness of his sleaze.

"Not only did I not respond to the convocation, but I thought I'd let a kid like you come over with bullshit, you Masud bastard, totally Nanais lord temptation? A beast of darkness? There's nothing wrong with a patrol like this!

"No way! Now I've fought them, many times in Nanais! Even on the streets until they got here through Tetna, they were ambushing!

"Shut up!"

Bang, and Dilgius slammed the desk.

"How many things can I be satisfied with when I get all good excuses for soldier's sake!? The glory of the Legion has fallen to the ground, and it makes sense that the pursuits will be enlivened by a group of completely incompetent foolish pictures!

Make your face red and black and yell, spit and curse. The countrymen take the legions lightly and pay no taxes, the bandits crush or crush them like termites, and the merchants hoist their value on that excuse, and they don't.

"Always, get rid of me! Not even a kid like that would give me, uh, shit, a great opinion toward me! It's the end of the world!

Before Dilgius, the solitary summoning scatter, Finn was totally perplexed and stood up without being able to say anything.

In other words, even in this city, supplies are scarce in general. But this commander does not believe that it is the damage caused by the Dark Beast. Because the legions do not obey their orders, because they are incompetent, because people are corrupt.

I had no idea how I could convince this commander, etc. I can't really hope for a rescue to Nanais. On the contrary,

"I'm blind, get out. There's a fucking kid!

I wasn't even going to be able to stay in this room any longer. Finn is pushed by Dilgius' sword curtain, twitching and lagging behind. Can you persuade me to leave this place once it's dispersed and come back at a later date? Or should I endure and eat down here and now, even if my opponent waves a commander's wand and punches me?

There was no respite to be lost.

"Can't you hear me telling you to lose it!!

Dilgius' fury raised his ear and shook the wall. I can't do that. Finn bit his lip and, silently, escaped the room.

Close the door and run a little down the hall, then finally breathe.

I didn't expect you to send reinforcements to Nanais as soon as possible, but I can't even talk properly.

As Finn turned desperately around the command room, the door of the room across the slope opened and a man appeared. I look down the hallway for a moment and when I find out what Finn looks like, I invite him.

……

Finn opened his mouth to ask if it was me, but the other person raised his index finger all the time, so he hurriedly swallowed his voice. Quickly, he was invited again to hurry, and Finn sneaked his footsteps into the man's room.

Close the door behind Finn, and the man often hears the noise of the hallway. And then I nodded, okay, okay.

"That was a disaster, boy. Well, sit down."

"Oh, thank you"

Confused by the poor treatment, Finn lowered his back to the chair indicated as a snack. A chair is a simple thing without a back, but to a tired leg, whatever it is, it's salvation. The breath of relief leaks unexpectedly.

"Well," the man sat across the street pinching his desk, opening his mouth in large part. "I am Ancius, Second Regiment Commander of the Eighth Legion. You seem young for an army soldier."

"His name is Phineas, and he's eighteen years old. About two months ago, I just became a soldier."

It was a very long two months, but I reply in retrospect. Ansius nodded, looking at Shivering and Finn.

"You've come all the way from Nanais to Tetna, but is it true?"

"Yes."

"Or that the beast of darkness is trekking?

"It's true. Now I've been nearly killed by them many times. Nanais seems terrible. Didn't the Legionnaires pull from Tetna report anything?

When Finn questioned him, Ancius turned into a complicated face. I didn't want you to ask me that question, I said. I hesitated a lot and answered with an uncomfortable flair.

"Sure, they held their mouths together and complained about the Dark Beast threat... but the Legion Leader didn't mean it. Same attitude towards you. [M] The captain, who came back here in a blur, was whipped for the blame of losing a large number of his men after he voluntarily withdrew all his troops from Tetna, and sanctioned himself in prison. Surviving men are disliked like plagues, put together on sentry duty outside the walls, but they see the end of the captain's path, so say nothing."

"Oh no... don't you believe me? Are you going to keep turning away from the facts about what's going on out there right now"

To the frank words of Finn, Ansius meditated and sighed.

"I can't tell you anything. But whatever the facts of Tetna and Nanais, there are also hard facts to move around in this Winnea. If you disagree with the words of the Legion Leader, you can't be in the city... that's the biggest thing. The Legion Leader has a powerful edge, and the City Council is totally his mantra. Besides, I'm sorry for you, but supplies are still coming from the South. Although I tend to lag behind. The North Side is originally poor land, and there have been tax arrears on a number of occasions. I can't help but believe what you're saying."

…………

Finn doubted my ear. I have no choice, do you say? I had no choice but to give it up.

As he escaped from his gaze, Ansius coughed and glanced at the wall. A map of the entire Empire finished in textiles hangs.

"And the other thing that matters to Winnea today is that the feud over the Emperor's throne is getting worse. None of this state of Vitier can be left without a connection. Gather your troops and be ready to go south at any time."

"Is that why you abandon Nanais? Please, at least."

Ancius shut up with a wave of his hand, pleading with Finn that some troops alone.

"Nanais will have a ship. If the situation is really that harsh, you can go out to sea and go around Cape Graes and evacuate somewhere with Vertier. We can't use Winnea."

Said to be rushed, Finn for a moment was under the illusion that the other person was right. Certainly there are many offshore sentinels in Nanais. But... Masud would have thought of a way like what Ancius said first. There must be a reason why we can't do it.

But the confused head couldn't even guess why, and Finn just asked to keep the conversation going and connect his hopes.

"Is the situation in my country that pressing?"

"Um" Ansius nodded seriously. "Do you know that after the death of Emperor Aedius, Lord Genus, the eldest son, took office? About five years ago."

Finn nodded blurry. Just when he was taken over by Oandus. I remember celebrating the reign of the new emperor in the city.

"Lord Genus had a poor compromise with the Dragon Hou Conference. He had strong ties to the army. So the meeting put something on my brother Lord Fedoras. Fearing the move, Lord Genus dissolved the meeting as a conspiracy against the Emperor, but it ended up letting Lord Fedoras decide. More than two years ago, Lord Fedoras assassinated your brother and held the throne."

"I didn't know anything about that"

"That's when the information started to get suspicious. Even if not, it takes time to get the news to the north side of the mountain range. It was only less than a year before Lord Fedoras was in the throne. Lord Genus' son fled, backed by the Imperial Capital Guard, who had a strong admiration for his late father, and defeated Lord Fedoras to reign. It was only a year ago. Now the emperor will be His Majesty Varys."

"So? Who's about to become emperor next? Lord Dilgius?"

Without hiding his fed up look, Finn sarcastically urged ahead. Otherwise, even the legions here in Winnea have no reason to be prepared for battle.

"I'm not saying anything rash!" Ansius reprimanded him with his face up. "Well, listen carefully. There are many enemies in Emperor Varys today. My own murdered uncle Fedoras had an adopted son, Senato. This is in fact the grandson of Lord Nakte, Senato-Austra the Dragon Hou. Looks like he's missing now, and as Senato and his son, Fourth Legion chief Rufus is searching for him. If they find and embrace young Senato, they will have trouble with Emperor Varis"

"Nakte......"

Snuff, Finn looked at the map. It was taught that it is a large city that also lines the capital, almost in the centre of the fertile Plains of Nena. From Winnea, cross the mountains through the Kalsum, or go southwest and circle the mountains along the coast, and you will be out behind the Nakte. As an enemy or as a friend, does that mean it depends on the situation? Seeing the battle between the Emperor and the Dragon Horse, do you seek honor and privilege by joining forces in good places for those who are likely to win? Or wait for us to collapse together.

I guessed for Dilgius' chest count, and Finn felt sick. The original task of the Eighth Corps is to keep the North Side safe. Even though their “country” is to the north of the mountains, not to the south.

Ansius continued to Finn, silenced in anger.

"There are other disturbing rumors. The prestigious Roflus family of the Nornicoms, solemnly proclaimed by the late Emperor Genus, but that the blinded widow Elesia became the female princess, putting together a clan royal party and flipping a revenge rebel flag at the emperor. Besides..."

So Ancius set aside his time. I don't know if you put your body on or if you just hesitated to say it. When Finn raised his eyebrows, Ansius coughed up his sincerity and closed in a tone disguised as calm.

"This Elecia looks like a real dragon marquis"

…………

Pokan, and Finn's mouth opened. Real, Dragon Horse. That means that it's not just titles that have become remnants of a long time ago, i.e....

"Did the dragon show up?"

"Rumor has it. A dragon with the same red colour as an elephant's hair flew off the battlefield."

He praised his shoulders to deceive him as to what was true and false. Finn also had an ambiguous face and closed his mouth, which was open.

If that's true, wouldn't it blow with one dragon's nose, such as the throne of the emperor? That hasn't happened yet, either, because the dragon's power isn't as strong as the legend, or, in fact, it still isn't because the dragons never engage in warfare between humans? But even if we speculate here, we don't know the facts.

Ansius regained his mind and put the story back to its actual content.

"Anyway, it's not strange whenever a convocation is called from my home country because it's such a situation. We can't afford to turn north. We just have to ask them to do something on their own. What are you gonna do? If you've come this far by yourself, you can move into this army like this. It'll be hard to get back to Nanais again."

Finn accidentally spilled a tight laugh. Back to that journey again? If Ancius was in Finn's shoes, or ever tried to head north, you'd see how ridiculous his remarks are now.

Finn shook his head slowly at Ancius wondering what was funny.

"I can't go back. After all, you're not taking what I said seriously as one thing, are you? I left from Nanais, with my family and another legion soldier. After somehow breaking through the streets where the Dark Beast was ambushing and spotting the surviving orphans in Tetna, he came through off the streets to avoid the beast. And just a few moments later... a bandit attacked me."

The voice gradually becomes stronger and sounds challenging. Finn had to relent to Ancius, who looked away badly.

"A few children were caught, and the legion soldiers died. Everyone is scratched and blurry. No food, no water. There's no way I can go back. Unless you're with a unit of the Legion."

It was an intense blow without complaint. At least, that's what the person who said it thought.

- But after a long silence, Ancius answered calmly and pale, not looking at Finn, as if he understood nothing.

"Then you have to find a job in this city. If you're going to work for the Legion, I can get you a place for your family. Because you want more than one soldier. The orphans will be picked up at the annexes of the Temple of Nena. Well, you can reply tomorrow. Go back to your family and talk to them."

And then I wave and urge him to leave the room.

appropriately defrauded and deceived.

Finn dropped his shoulder to disappointment, no longer exhausted his energy to say anything, bowed his head, did not say hello, and left the room. Now I couldn't find hope or anything more in the Legion, but still, I'm sick of thinking that I'll probably knock on this door again tomorrow.
