Ashes and Kingdoms

5-3. Tracking

"Where did that kid go!

Suddenly he was yelled at headless, and Valt looked blatantly defiant. Who are you talking about, though I wanted to say it back, but I reply with a rethink that it is not dangerous to do so.

"If you're talking about Phineas, we're out to collect Igross' remains. Of course, I have the commander's permission."

"Then why aren't you back at sundown already! Don't be ridiculous!"

"I might be back. I didn't order you to report it as soon as you got home. Shall I send someone to see what's going on?"

"I told you I wasn't back, Valt."

Dilgius' voice sounds ominous. Valt shrugged white.

"Then you must be in the wild in time to close the door"

"Come on!!

Dilgius yelled and threw the wax plate that was nearby. Valt lifts his arms to prevent it.

"Even the inside of the guy who was in the orphanage is disappearing, not a planned escape! You knew that and you must have helped! Spit it out, where is he!?

"I had concerns that we might escape."

Valt was honest and picked up the wax plate and put it back on his desk. To that calm attitude, Dilgius narrows his eyes to sword swallowing all the time. But Valt was not frightened.

"I didn't think I had to worry about leaving my family and disappearing. The reading seemed sweet. But, Commander, either of them is a soldier who's not much of a fighter, nor is he properly trained. You won't be spared where you've lost it."

"Horrible, you big law spiral hipster!

Dilgius stepped out and grabbed Valt's chest barn up.

"Did you think I didn't know the rumor that he had gained special powers? That's not all, that damn kid!

Releasing his hand to abandon, Dilgius kicked on the floor. If I let it go like this, everything on my desk is going to get slapped down. Valt looked at the Commander's eight hits with a waking face, but his eyes were rounded for the ensuing cry.

"I stole the child from my nephew! You can put mud on my face and bring me back with any hand you want!

He sounds alarmed in danger and swallows in a hurry. I hadn't heard anything from Phineas about the kid. That stupid extra thing, and chewed up the bitter bug with his back teeth, and Valt roared.

"That's a tease story. But if you're going somewhere, you can predict."

"What do you expect, you know so well!

"I didn't ask clearly, Commander. But he's been spilling every time he wants to go home to Nanais. We can't go back on our own, but we can't help but wonder what's going on in our hometown, which is why we haven't even been sagging at work. I hear rumors, but if the dragon gets something that helps, he's going north."

Even so, Valt put his breath down there. I see Dilgius' head a little cold, and I keep going.

"If you want to chase, me and my men will show you the way. Because you're familiar with the geography on that side. Besides, I don't know how far he's going to go, what he's got, so I want you to give him enough food and a platoon."

"... what's the aim"

"It's no big deal," Valt flaunted his shoulder. "The commander doesn't seem to be able to take it seriously yet, but then I just want to sweep the northern streets and do the Dark Beast a little farther. It's getting scary to do a castle wall sentry assignment in the middle of the night. If you don't like it, you can call it a vagrant or bandit sweep."

"You little villain."

Dilgius roars as he bites his teeth. Valt kept his mouth shut for the most part, but of course he was severely poisoned in his belly. If stubbornness and stupidity are evil, then I'm sure they're no match for your big man.

Either way, Valt's morsel hit. Dilgius immediately gave the order, so he dispatched a tracking team the following day.

"Sora, there are traces of the fire burning here. You seem to have done quite a bit for once, even though it's just an excuse. And... footprints. It's going north."

I found a small altar and traces of fire, and Valt just said I would be right, pointing to the ground. Footprints for a few people left in each location are joining the streets a little further. The captain of the tracking team nodded alright and signaled to proceed again in one line.

We want to capture the deserters quickly and return to the city. Stand forward a dedicated tracking team, and Valt and his men will relax and follow later. Pretend to proceed while checking for overlooks.

Soon, however, one soldier came away from the creep of the tracking squad. Valt raises his eyebrows and greets his facial acquaintance with bows and arrows with an ironic look.

"Yo, it's been a while, Plast. I thought you were cut off from us."

I didn't want to come.

The skinny archer responded coolly, diving his voice and asking sharply.

"You really think you're back north"

"I don't care what I think, as the footprint suggests."

"It doesn't stay in the cobblestone of the street, such as footprints. Looks like he's headed north and could have turned back as soon as he got out of the street."

"Oh, I see you're doing a good job with your nappies. Okay, but let's just say you took the kid that the kid grabbed and turned back down the street. So, where are we going? South? You want to go over Calsum and warm up to your home country? But the Legionnaires are watching over them. Don't let deserters get caught in one shot. West, then? Do you want to go out to Vertier or Comrith and literally sail up your ass and run this way? But there won't be enough money to get on the boat. We haven't been paid properly in months."

Valt laughed bitterly and slapped his own pocket. Of course they don't come on board. Even as he snorted into silence, Valt went on to say.

"All we have to do is run east, but that's a tough land pattern for the outsiders. You have to be one of those people I know, you don't have to live anyway if you're just passing by. It's not a good idea to run away with kids. Either way, I said I had to go back north."

Plast hit a tough knob on Valt, who showed him with his hands wide open.

"... I can't believe it. I don't care how many people I know are born and raised in this town, it's not sane to go back into that darkness again."

"There is no beast of darkness. Wasn't that your opinion?

Valt was spicy and sarcastic, but didn't get through to Plast. He merely frowned slightly at Valt with a cold eye, his former companions, and the far north of the earth.

"Still, I don't want to spend the night outside the walls."

The crushed words were too dark and the night seemed to glimpse through his voice. Exactly. Valt can't slap his hatred, either, and he's silent.

And, inadvertently, Euches raised his optimistic voice from behind.

"Really, right? I hope it's okay because it's got dragons on it, but I can't stop here."

To Euches, who leaked blatant discontent, Valt looked up to heaven, and the faces of the sentry looked fed up. Plast looks surprised and asks back pale.

"You saw the dragon."

"Stop it, Plast. That's not true, there's no way he's here," Valt responds.

"I didn't ask you. What do you think, Euches?"

Not only Plast, but also Valt and his companions stared at him, and the servant Euches strangled him. Then answer as badly as you deceive.

"That's the kind of rumor, isn't it? I thought we all already knew."

…………

Plast frowned and caught a rugged eye, but there he inadvertently realized he was lagging behind, and when he turned his heel back without saying anything, he hurried back to the line.

What was silent was the same for the Valts. Surrounded by stone-like silence, Euches defend themselves alone.

"Because, isn't it true? It's not fair, we're normal people... you know what's going on out there, you can't run away..."

The soliloquy, which only disappeared into the void without any reaction, gradually whispered, and at the end of the day it was chewed up and swallowed up in the mouth.

Eventually, when the sun tilted and the evening approached, the tracking team went to prepare the camp. With Valt and Plast's prophecy, you dare set a bonfire off the streets.

"That's right."

Valt snapped in his mouth and looked around at his own men.

"Maybe you'll meet some nostalgic friends. Get ready for a welcome."
