Ashes and Kingdoms

6-5. A New Beginning

The moon is full, missing and disappearing, and it's time to show your face. The sun shines stronger and brighter every day, as do the colours of the sea.

A second makeshift cabin was built in the city, and a new boat for fishing was built, and nets were repaired. Around the time green leaves grew in the field, the ship visited Nanais again. Now there were unexpected people with him as well as goods.

"Lord Islev! Is something wrong?

When Finn, who picked him up, was surprised, Islev laughed and shook his head, "No, no, no."

"It's not like I got knocked out of Winnea, don't worry. I thought it was time to settle down and see how things were going. Everyone who couldn't wait to migrate."

"What..."

Finn stops and Nellis rounds his eyes.

"Do people want to come over here!?

Islev laughed out loud at the honest tone and expression that it was incredible.

"I wouldn't be so surprised. What? Few of the people who originally evacuated from outside Winnea are disgusted with urban life. Wherever you go, poverty is the same. Is it strange if you want to be somewhere at liberty? Several families of farmers who have lost their land in the past year or so also wish to migrate. Even though the area around Winnea is somewhat safer, it doesn't reach everyone on all that land. Here, too, they'll make the most of their experience."

"I told you... there's no walls, no place to live, there's nothing there."

"If that's what you're saying, you're the ones who came here when there's nothing."

Islev turned to Finn again as he stepped aside and teased him.

"So it's time to see if full-scale migration is possible, and if so, start preparing for it. Can we get everyone together and talk?"

"Oh, yes."

Finn rushes to get his people scattered around. Not so much, they all looked at each other in the square, which regained the shadow of previous years. Only Taz is added from the merchant ship, and the rest is made to search for treasure again.

Islev looked around together and cut it out in large measure.

"Well, from what I've seen, we've removed the obvious debris, and we're restoring the water supply. Because of your complexion, it doesn't seem like the Dark Beast attack is too intense to sleep. Are you ready to welcome new residents?

The inquiry was directed primarily at Finn and Oandus and other citizens of the old Nanais. None of the newcomers are Nanais people. No matter how long you wait, the previous inhabitants will not return. Even if I knew with my head, I wondered if my mind was ready.

Finn looked in turn at everyone, then nodded deeply. Islev confirmed each look and then responded, OK.

"Then I would ask you to elect a representative first as you re-depart as the autonomous city of Nanais. Of course, autonomy is a prerequisite, so I don't mind you deciding on the positions you need other than the delegates, but for the time being, I want you to define who you want to negotiate with."

While talking, his eyes were poured on Finn, just saying that it was already decided. All I was asking, except in person, half-word and see Finn.

Even when exposed to attention, he still hadn't noticed, and Finn was taking it seriously.

"Then it's best to leave it to your uncle..."

"What are you talking about"

Blocking his son's dialogue, Oandus raised his voice in shame. Eh, and Finn looked up surprised and finally rounded his eyes knowing what everyone's gaze meant.

"Is it me!? But these things are better for the elderly."

"No matter how old you are, it would be ridiculous to have Dragon Hou but other people will represent you"

You don't even know that, Plast just shook his head. Oandus nodded as well,

"Firstly, the person to whom His Majesty the Emperor promised autonomy would be you, Phineas. What if you don't represent me?"

I told him in good faith, then laughed and added.

"I don't want to take on a more difficult job than I do now. I don't want you to hang out on your knees and talk to me."

"Uncle......"

"Don't be cognizant of me, brother," even Mac abandoned Finn. "My brother is already one of the great ones. Whether you were in Quanos with the General or when you went to the Imperial Capital with His Majesty the Emperor's offering, the person they came to talk to was always your brother, wasn't he?

"No, but that one"

The twins chase after Finn, who also tries to resist.

"It's a bad time for forebears."

"I'll make sure you give up."

So they looked at each other, and hey, there was a nod. "Really?" Finn frowned, the twins said perfectly in solidarity.

"Because it's convenient for you to be the representative."

Wouldn't it be a little too honest to be true? Finn skewed his face and everyone laughed. The twins go on with verses like singing.

"If you take care of us, we can build houses and plow fields."

"If you were me, you'd be on the Lena, flying all the way to Winnea, great for a liaison."

"The tap's broken, so I'm dropping in a tech."

"The population has grown. - They're sending in doctors. - Hey."

"I can't pay my taxes because I don't get much."

a phrase that has all the troublesome things in line,

"Dear Dragon Marquis, let me..."

On the day you sang it up high, etc., you don't have to be Finn to want to escape. In the whirlpool of laughter, Finn held only one head.

"Are you... eh"

One hand pounding Finn's shoulder, roaring in disgust. Looking back, it was Islev.

"Give it up. So the representative is Dragon Horse Phineas."

"Hey......!

Wait, the protest was dismissed by a huge applause. No matter how much Dragon Marquis stares at, it doesn't work at all. Finn shook his head as he exhaled a deep sigh.

"Okay, I'll take it. But, Lord Islev, I don't know anything about the administration, so I'm sure we'll leave the actual job to everyone."

"Of course I don't mind that. You should compile your opinions and requests and serve as a point of contact with your country. Shall we get started?"

Islev didn't move at all and got to work as if nothing had happened.

There were so many things I had to decide. The biggest problem is land ownership. Basically all the land belongs to the state, but since it is an autonomous city, the state lends the land and leaves the operation to it. So if some revenue goes up, you have to pay taxes from it, otherwise it's free.

With regard to the surrounding agricultural land, some rich farmers were once granted land by the state, but now there are no owners, borrowers or anyone.

"If we conduct surveys of such land and start farming again on farmland without owners, we will give ownership of the land only for our own generation. After the death of the person concerned it will belong to the State, and if it continues to farm it will incur an obligation to pay the rent to the State. This is, well, equivalent to the opening of new agricultural land. You must also manage the land."

Nanais' activities are not completed solely inside the walls. It is a single city, encompassing even the surrounding farmland, which is closely linked to Nanais. If we are going to be autonomous, we need to manage ourselves, including that much.

"Well, it won't be long before you get around to it. Then it's a public water supply..."

That and this, and Islev goes on and on. The unfamiliar ones just looked at the arrangement in writing and stacked it one after the other.

When Nanais finished putting together the minimum agreements needed to do it as an autonomous city in the future, Islev brought up a final takeover, as he recalled, "Oh yes.

"The other day, a letter from His Majesty the Emperor arrived. As far as winnea is concerned, the mail has now arrived safely. Anyway, that's what it is."

Look, and give me a round parchment. Finn received terribly what was still on this, but ran his eyes into the text - and it was neat.

"… 'Emperor Varis-Graaedius-Genacius of the Diatius Empire, as well as the Council, accredit the finias of Nanais as the Northern Tenryu Marquis, allowing them to name their households and families' … this means?

"I can't do the land, but I'll admit my name as a nobleman."

Islev answers softly and a strange silence arises. Then Taz and Nellis burst out laughing. The twins get twisted, and Plast makes an indescribably funny face. Finn couldn't tell if he was grateful or what it was, and he read the letter over and over with a complicated face.

"If they say so, you can't name a family or a family without it."

"You can call yourself whatever you want. That means you'll be the first. [M] Think of something great. Why don't you take Daia's name?"

"No way!"

Terrible, Finn sounds insane. Islev laughed delightfully.

"Well, whatever you want. I'll stay here for a few days, just like you, Taz, so you should think about it in the meantime. If you decide, I will inform the Imperial Capital."

"Your brother is noble."

Nellis repeats slightly. Finn doesn't answer with a moist face. Oh, my God, I don't like to think about this. Finn is roaring, so Lena asked Nellis properly.

"Aristocrats, names, what do you mean? Will Finn's name change?

"Oh, well. Don't you know Lena? You know, er... I don't even know the details, but besides my own name, there are people who have family names and family names. You can't tell the difference if someone has the same name. Therefore, it is the family name that represents who your ancestors are…, and it is the family name that represents who your family is today"

"Is there someone with the same name?

Finn grins bitterly and pinches his mouth from the side to Lena, who is surprised and rounded her eyes.

"Unlike dragons, humans are so numerous that we can't name them all differently."

"Then there's another Phineas somewhere."

"Yes. If that happens to be in the same place, it would be tricky, wouldn't it? In our case, we can still be divided in our profession and where we live, like Finias the powderer and Finias the fisherman, Mac on the river's edge and Mac on the hill, but when we become great people, we don't."

First, the number of clans increases. They use the same name for generations against their great ancestors, and their vocations and dwellings resemble and come close to each other. If that happens, how many of them won't make it through.

"That's why you use the family name and the family name. Of course, it doesn't make sense because if everyone names themselves as they please, it will be confusing, and bringing up an ancestor like no one else knows, it won't prove their identity"

So nature and those who have both a family name and a family name will only be a limited family that boasts strong power. As a result, only when did that bear witness to the nobility.

"So, what about Finn?" Lena was completely confused and blinked her eyes. "You don't even know who your ancestors are when you say you're going to give them a new name even though you've never had one before, do you?

"Oh yeah. So I have to figure out for myself a name that represents who I am. If I had a child, I would inherit the name I just gave here after that... I can't give it much of an appropriate one, and it's a big deal to say..."

Finn returns to his rare face again, holding his head. Suffering often, he finally surrendered.

"No, I can't think of anything. Mac, think about it instead."

"What, me!? Don't leave that to people!

"I can't decide extra because it's important."

"Such an unscrupulous... Why don't you let me use Lena and her uncle's name? Leave Lady Deia alone, Elphalenia-Oandius, or something."

"Well, so"

"Instant!? Just think about it some more, 'cause I came up with it and I just said it as an example!

Mac screamed Nellis, and Fauna laughed. but Finn just said he had already made up his mind and waved flirtatiously.

"Adequacy. Lena and her uncle's names are better than weird. More than that, I have to think of something else. When new residents come, we can't rebuild the city on the spot. Plast, come here for a second."

Invited, Plast walked over without saying anything. It may be heartbreaking, but unlike Valt, such things rarely represent attitude.

Either way, Finn showed Guru by hand and consulted him on where and what he was going to build.

The temple was built on Cape Street until now, where it faced the square with a rally point. That's pretty much a decision, so what are we going to do with the temporary residence now, where are we going to build the dwelling from, and where are the dwellings and the buildings to be separated from?

Nellis and Mac also went back to their true faces and joined the story, twisting their heads on this and the design, whether they were all. The dream spreads uninterruptedly, and even the theatre builds up in the markets, baths, and libraries in the nanice of the fantasy.

Slightly, the plast returned to me crumbled.

"We don't have enough material to build anything like that."

I wake up from my dreams as soon as I can, and Nellis snorts.

"Well, that won't happen right now. Can't you make plans?

"I'm not saying I can't, but you have a tough future. No matter how many new people come first, we don't even have the stone to build that residence. There are piles of rubble."

In mud painting on the reticle, the life of the building is quite short. Besides, if I could, I'd still like to keep the foundations properly stoned.

And when Finn heard the words, he hesitated to open his mouth.

"I was thinking... can't you convert the stone from the walls?

"Yeah!?

Nellis, of course, even the twins she had heard on the solder raised a bare voice. Oandus frowned, "Are you serious?" Ask. Of course, the reconstruction of the city would be much more helpful if stone were converted from the collapsed walls. Buildings that should be sturdy, like temples and assemblies, must also be able to be splendid.

But naturally,

"The walls are gone! Brother, how are you going to protect Nanais?

In order to build a new castle wall, stones must be cut out and carried, and it is not known how many decades it will be before such a thing becomes possible.

But Finn didn't move. Now the city is perfectly prospective, and I can see the walls even from the square, but I answered pale when I saw its pathetic collapse.

"It doesn't matter which one, if they push over in large numbers, there's no point in having a castle wall. Is this evidence of that? We don't have to worry first about human enemies attacking us, and in fact, even looking back in history, Nanais relied on the walls only once or twice, only at a time when the post-war empire and the Vitian tribe were in conflict. You don't have to."

Reason makes sense. Nevertheless, if you try to make everyone still feeling the threat of the Dark Beast on their skin, it would be a big difference if there were a wall even if it was half collapsed. Nobody tries to answer right away.

Finn waited a little, but he didn't hear either yes or no, so he went on to say it.

"In the meantime tonight, I'll try to keep the Dark Families away from the walls without boundaries. If you need a change, I'll call you, until then, everyone stay in the house."

"Your brother does that kind of lameness again"

Nellis only glanced at her as soon as she was about to, but Finn just grinned and stroked her head "okay".
