Chapter 93: A Wyrm’s tail
Jimmy ate two pounds worth of meat the moment he got out of the ruins.
The Dry Eagle carcass was putting out an odour, but he didn’t care. He was sure that his stomach could melt steel right now. Some slightly smelly meat could not harm him even if it tried.
In the end, he felt as if he was about to explode, but he didn’t care. He considered it a privilege to feel this full, especially since his metabolism seemingly tried to suck the life out of him at every chance it got.
After he ate, he went back to the stone staff, and started dragging it again.
The Summoning Circle was several meters away from him, and the little trip there was uphill, but he didn’t see this as a challenge.
The small hill towards the circle may be steeper, but the grass below his claws wasn’t nearly as slippery as the crystalized tunnel that he had muscled through.
Better yet, he could sink his claws into the dirt, which aided the process significantly. He couldn’t do that in the hardened tunnel.
It only took him a couple of minutes to get to the Summoning Circle.
"Hehe, finally!" He said.
After what he considered to be his toughest hardship ever since he hatched out of his egg, the small smile he had now felt like the greatest reward.
Jimmy loosened his grip, left the staff, otherwise known as the tail of the serpentine Summoning Circle, and started walking around the circle’s borders.
"Okay, now where is that slut?" He joked, "Slot, I mean. Where is the slot?"
The circle was six feet wide, and yet it gave him another battle that he wouldn’t tell the crows at home about.
He couldn’t find the slot for the staff.
"Motherfucker!" He cussed, "Where is it? It’s not like the circle can hide the slot itself. Stone can’t get shy, I hope."
As he tried to calm himself down, he got a theory of what was going on, which only made him angrier as a result.
"That fuckass mage hid the slot, didn’t he?" He grunted, "My fuck! How greedy can these motherfuckers be?"
With that considered, he knew how to amplify his search now. Jimmy ignored all the luscious green grass around the circle, and walked towards a patch of up-turned dirt.
Someone had ripped the grass out of the ground, along with the roots, and had made a small, six-inch tall pile at a specific spot.
"Yup, he covered the slot." He said.
As he brushed the up-turned dirt away, his claw hit something hard.
Cleaning the area around that hard-point, he then uncovered what looked like a carefully crafted, rectangular stone hole.
It took one glance for him to confirm that the bottom-end of the stone staff could fit in here perfectly.
"I swear to fuck I will go back in that tunnel and burn the mage’s body." He said, "He was on some petty shit. I hope that not all summoners are this selfish."
After finding the slot, and silently cursing the universe for throwing unnecessary challenges at him, he walked back to the stone staff, and started dragging it again.
He dragged it from the middle of the Summoning Circle, and towards the slot nearby.
He could hear the staff whistle and thud behind him as he dragged it above the circle’s many bumps.
"Oh hell nah," He held his breath.
At the corner of his right eye, he noticed that the Wyrms, tens of feet away from him, were getting restless.
Paranoid as he was right now, he directly assumed that they wanted to stop him from using the Summoning Circle. It didn’t help that they were slithering directly towards him. Seven of them.
Their one-hundred foot long bodies were surely intimidating, so he started walking a little bit faster.
"I can’t let them get their... well, they don’t have hands." He began to panic, "I can’t let them sit on the staff, I guess? I don’t need a problem like that right now."
To his luck, the staff started floating the moment he got it within one foot of the slot!
Jimmy didn’t fully lunderstand the magic behind this, but he was relieved.
The staff set itself upright, and then assumed a narrow position, until it fit into the slot below it.
"Fits like a glove," He said, as soon as he saw it settle in. "Thank god. I wasn’t sure I could lift it, and fit it in there myself."
The staff, or the tail got back into its rightful place.
The body of the Summoning Circle, representing a full, stone carved Wyrm, was now complete.
It could be put to use, in other words, and so Jimmy was that much closer to completing his mission.
"One more thing left to do," He said.
He walked towards the middle of the circle, aiming to start the ritual.
At his disadvantage, the seven massive Wyrms had gotten too close!
Jimmy noticed them, and thought of several different ways to fight them off. He did not plan to back off now that he got so close to finishing the mission.
However, he then heard a loud snap, like the crack of a whip!
He saw one of the Wyrms move its tail at great speeds, and thanks to his upgraded eyesight, he noticed that something came out of the Wyrm’s tail, and beamed towards him!
However, he had no time to react, and so, with no time to dodge the attack, his Retractable Razor armor popped up instead.
It saved his life, but it was not enough. He was good at deflecting elemental attacks, but he did not know what to do about such great physical challenges.
The impact tossed him five feet backwards!
"Son of a bitch!" He screamed, "What are these? Scales?!"
Three spiky scales had made their way through his armor, and had sunk into his skin by an inch.
The scales themselves were three-inch long. Small compared to him, but he knew for a fact that if he didn’t have his armor, these scales would’ve sent him to oblivion.
The force of the impact advocated that fact.
Nevertheless, he didn’t give up.
He got back up on his feet, flew several meters above the ground, and unleashed his own version of hell against the Wyrms!
