Chapter 58: Rainbow of Flames
A rainbow had seven colours, traditionally. Its beauty was boundless.
After Jimmy saw a horrifically huge, cow-sized rat promptly pop its head out of the darkness before submerging back into it, he unleashed a rainbow of his own.
"Fuck you!" He shouted.
Red, yellow, white, and blue fireballs spiraled across the chambers! He threw a single wave of them against the rat.
Afterwards, he shot three Red Fireballs against it, one after the other.
It was expensive, but each fireball he shot got more and more precise, as the light they emitted gave him a great view of what stood ahead.
[-520 mana points]
[Remaining pool: 550 points]
The huge rat refused to quit. Initially it did.
The first, two-foot wide, Red Fireball barely staggered it. Its fur fought off the fireball’s heat as if the rat had crafted its defenses from the core of the sun!
This was why Jimmy had to double-down on his attack. It was frantic, but it was calculative at the same time.
The Blue Fireball he shot, being the hottest one he could muster, smashed the rat to the ground in an instant, and it did so at the precise moment the rat had started charging towards him!
It was what killed it, what destroyed its thick protective coat, and what dug into its skin.
The hellish fury of a 2,200°C (3,992°F) Blue Fireball knew no opponent, only victims.
Every lesser fireball after that horrid blow was just a safe measure. That is, until he heard the notification.
[+4,120 system points]
[Total points: 5,515]
"This rat was worth more than a human?" He blurted, referring to the points he gained, "More than a Neanderthal, at least. God damn."
Unintentionally, he said that in Virena’s language. She picked up on it.
"What makes you say that?" She asked, confused, and as she looked at the burning carcass, she added, "He’s big, I give you that, but it’s still a rat. At the very least, humans are less disgusting than them."
"Oh... that’s not what I meant." He said.
Jimmy tried to find an excuse for himself afterwards, but he got nothing. There was no white-lie effective enough to get him out of this, so instead, he chose to be quiet. He felt weird lying to Virena anyway, and firmly believed that she didn’t deserve it.
Cautious, he approached the rat, one step after the other. His steps were so wide that he felt like Velociraptor who was hunting prey. His legs weren’t supposed to work like this, he was supposed to hop over like any other crow, but his several evolutions said otherwise.
His legs didn’t hurt when he walked. They offered him great flexibility, powered by a great deal of additional muscle he got from the Warhammer Comprehension evolution.
He even left his hammer behind, as he felt that he wouldn’t need it.
"If I run out of mana, I can always run back to my hammer." He whispered.
Jimmy went through a short set of stairs. This time, despite his confidence, he had to hop down the stairs, because they were too tall for him to walk down from.
A few meters past the stairs laid the body of the giant rat. Its size, from up close, was absolutely mesmerizing! It dwarfed him by tens of times, and he felt lucky that he had managed to kill it.
"What a damn cow," He winced.
Most of its fur was still on fire, sizzling. The fire, thanks to the fact that it was spread across its body, was so huge that the heat it radiated made Jimmy feel sweaty, even though as a crow, he could not sweat.
The stench of burning fur punched his nose, but he tried to ignore it. He scoped the area, silently hoping that there was another huge rat to kill. He could surely use the system points he could get from them.
"Nothing yet..." He held his breath, "Was this fucker stuck here?"
Jimmy’s thoughts in regards to this chamber were mixed. He almost wished to be attacked, but the more he explored the space, the bigger it looked. He knew that there were multiple dark corners around here that he could not possibly cover all at once, and if he was to be attacked, the odds of him fighting off the attack wasn’t guaranteed.
"I only managed to kill this fat motherfucker because he was easy to hit..." He said.
The stench of the burning fur fought with the delicious smell of sizzling meat. Yet another matter he was torn over!
Despite how gross this place was, he felt weird about leaving hundreds of kilos of meat to waste away. Cooked meat should be less dangerous to eat, after all.
Skree! Skree!
A barrel of screeches caught his attention. He twirled in place nearly like a professional ballerina, desperate to figure out where those horrid sounds came from.
Seconds later, a wave of rats emerged from the second set of stairs several meters ahead of him.
"Fuck!" He backed away.
At first sight, the wave of rats horrified him, but his brain finally registered that he wasn’t dealing with cow-sized monster rats this time. They were normal ones, as small as they were supposed to be.
Jimmy chuckled, and got into action. He didn’t even plan on wasting his mana on them.
Sixty or seventy rats charged towards him, that was his rough guess. His hammer was close to the tunnel exit, so he was unarmed, but he didn’t plan on running back to grab it.
Before the rats got close, he stretched his wings as wide as he could, and slapped the air in front of him with every bit of strength he could muster!
Four and a quarter feet of muscled-backed evolutionary beauty outcompeted the rats easily!
When the rats were hit by the concentrated pressure his wing flap caused, a third of them did front flips, and crashed on the ground as if they were defenseless bugs!
"Haha!" He grinned.
That single wing flap of his was so strong that it even pushed him backwards by a few feet. This came in handy.
However, the rats that weren’t affected by the attack, continued to chase after him.
Virena leaped in front of them, and held the frontlines. Her chained sickle whistled in grand speeds, tearing through faces, refusing to be stuck on any rat skull.
Blood pooled on the ground. It was close to reaching her feet.
She was out-numbered, but she killed so many rats in a short time, that the rest of them quickly learned to avoid her.
They ran around her, and headed towards Jimmy, hoping to tear him to shreds. After seeing what the praying mantis could do, they thoroughly believed that Jimmy was an easier target!
