And yet, she had absolutely no interest in things like designer bags, luxury goods, or trendy afternoon teas.

All her energy was purely devoted to the pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement.

What was even more rare was her staunch adherence to truth and principles. She didn’t take shortcuts or try to get by on clever tricks, and she certainly wouldn’t delude herself for the sake of worldly temptations.

Chen Lin muttered under his breath, "You can’t just pass up a good girl."

.....

.....

「July 24, Thursday, 9:30 AM.」

Outside, cicadas screeched themselves hoarse. The ground, scorched by the brutal sun, shimmered with waves of distorted heat. Even the roadside greenery drooped, completely listless.

To be honest, if he hadn’t scheduled a meeting with Professor Gu, Chen Lin wouldn’t have been caught dead going out during the day at the hottest time of the year.

Thankfully, the central air conditioning in the School of Mathematics building was blasting. The moment he stepped through the main doors, a wave of cool air washed over him, instantly dispelling the sweltering heat and his own irritation.

Chen Lin navigated the familiar path to Professor Gu Ming’s office and knocked on the door.

"Come in!"

The voice from within was full of enthusiasm.

Chen Lin pushed the door open to see Professor Gu Ming already on his feet. A brilliant smile on his face, the professor hurried over to greet him.

"Ah, Chen Lin, you’re here! Come in, come in! Have a seat!"

Chen Lin was a bit taken aback by Gu Ming’s enthusiasm.

"Professor Gu, you’re too kind."

"Of course, of course!" Gu Ming thrust a cup of water into his hands and plopped down in the seat across from him, his eyes filled with admiration and approval.

"Ah, Chen Lin," Gu Ming cleared his throat, trying to keep his voice steady. "I stayed up last night grading the two exams you took yesterday. Just like the ones before, they were both perfect scores!"

"Oh, okay." Chen Lin simply smiled calmly and nodded.

’This result was entirely expected.’

Gu Ming watched his nonchalant reaction and felt a surge of admiration. ’Look at that! Just look at that! That’s the composure and poise of a true genius!’

He composed himself, then said, "With this, you’ve now completed all the required credits for your major! All that’s left is to finish your graduation thesis, and then we can immediately start the official process for your early graduation!"

When he heard the word "process," Chen Lin wasn’t bothered in the slightest.

’He knew perfectly well that when it came to this sort of thing, Principal Chang Kai was probably even more eager than he was.’

’After all, the moment he graduated, the title of "Yannan University Alumnus" would be secured. Once he achieved something significant, Principal Chang could add another brilliant line to his own résumé.’

However, Chen Lin knew he had to take the immediate task of writing his graduation thesis seriously.

For one thing, he had already promised Academician Liang Tianshi that he would get involved in scientific research in the future, as his energy permitted.

Academic papers were the most direct way to present future research findings, so he’d have to learn the rules of that game sooner or later.

For another, his conversation with Shen Yan a couple of days ago had completely extinguished any unrealistic notions he’d had of hiring a ghostwriter.

He no longer held out any hope that an undergraduate, or even a graduate student, would be able to comprehend his research.

’It’s better to rely on yourself than on others. This was a skill he absolutely had to master.’

At this thought, Chen Lin’s focus sharpened.
