Chen Lin couldn’t help but snark internally.

The whole thing was done in just thirty minutes. If he’d had to handle it himself, he would’ve been thanking his lucky stars to get it done within three days.

Nevertheless, he put his phone away and sincerely thanked Director Kong and the two teachers who had been busy helping out.

"Next up is his early graduation," Chang Kai said, patting Gu Ming’s shoulder. He reminded him, "Gu, you need to be on top of this. I’ll personally call Dean Zhuang from the School of Mathematics and Director Guo from the math department to give them a heads-up. I guarantee there won’t be any issues."

"You can rest assured, Principal." Gu Ming nodded solemnly.

"Alright then," Chang Kai said, glancing at his watch with a concerned expression. "Rushing back from the Imperial Capital today must have been tiring for Chen Lin. You should go get some rest."

Chen Lin did want to drop his luggage off at his dorm first, so he took the opportunity to say his goodbyes to Chang Kai and Gu Ming. He then walked out of the administration building alone, pulling his suitcase behind him.

...

Back in his familiar dorm room, 406, he pushed open the door, and the familiar air of the room washed over him.

The room was empty. Wang Tao and his other roommates’ beds were all neatly made, their desks covered in a thin layer of dust. Clearly, no one had entered since the holiday break began.

Chen Lin set his suitcase in the corner, unzipped it, and stuffed a few changes of clothes into the wardrobe.

Then, he carefully retrieved the heavy gold bar from a hidden compartment in his backpack. After a moment’s thought, he stuffed it back in, still in its wooden box. ’I’m only staying for a few days anyway. Better not take it out, or I might forget it when I leave.’

He took out his phone and glanced at the time. It was a little before four in the afternoon.

He’d been rushing around all day and hadn’t even had time for lunch. Now, a sharp pang of hunger hit him.

’I need to find something to eat.’

Chen Lin thought for a moment. During the summer break, the school cafeteria was still open, but its hours were drastically reduced. It wasn’t open at this hour. Plus, the specialty food stalls on the third floor and the hot pot and barbecue place on the fourth were all closed.

’Forget it.’

Chen Lin felt his pocket, and a wave of confidence washed over him.

’I’m a guy with nearly 40,000 yuan on me, not to mention a soon-to-be company founder. How can I still be so cheap?’

’I have to treat myself better!’

Chen Lin decided to splurge a little at the McDonald’s near campus.

He could also treat it as a celebration for his successful major transfer.

As soon as he stepped out of the dormitory, the bright afternoon sun felt a little blinding.

Chen Lin instinctively raised a hand to shield his eyes, but in his peripheral vision, he caught sight of a beautiful figure standing in the shade of a tree in front of the building.

Chen Lin stopped in his tracks, a look of surprise appearing on his face.

Today’s Yunqing seemed a little different from the stunning, star-quality beauty who was always dressed fashionably in his memory.

She was wearing a JK uniform: a dark blue sailor-collar top over a crisp white shirt, accented with a vibrant red neckerchief. Below, she wore a matching pleated skirt, its hem resting perfectly just above her knees.

Her long, straight legs were clad in white mid-calf socks, and she wore a pair of delicate brown loafers.

Her shoulder-length hair, usually worn down in light brown waves, was tied up in a high ponytail that swung in an arc as she turned her head.

She looked less of her usual alluring and sophisticated self, and more full of youthful energy.

While Chen Lin was still staring, dumbfounded, Yunqing spotted him. Her big, bright eyes instantly crinkled into beautiful crescents as she approached him with light, cheerful steps.

"Hi!" she chirped, stopping in front of him. She tilted her head, her face beaming.

Chen Lin snapped back to his senses, though the surprise hadn’t quite faded. He asked instinctively, "You weren’t waiting for me, were you?"

"Of course I was!" Yunqing’s reply was refreshingly direct, without a hint of coyness.

With that, as if showing off a treasure, she did a little twirl in front of him. The hem of her pleated skirt flared out gently before settling back down.

"Well? What do you think?" She clasped her hands behind her back and leaned forward slightly, her sparkling eyes fixed on Chen Lin, her voice laced with a playful pride. "Do I look good?"

Chen Lin noticed from her expression that she was eagerly awaiting his answer.

Chen Lin had enough social awareness to know what to do.

Besides, there was absolutely no reason for him to lie.

"Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful," he said, nodding repeatedly with utmost sincerity. "With your looks and this outfit... you’re simply stunning."

The compliment, though blunt, was clearly highly effective.

The smile on Yunqing’s face instantly grew even more radiant.

Watching her, Chen Lin grew even more curious. He couldn’t help but ask, "But how did you know I was back at school? I don’t think I told anyone."

"Hee hee," Yunqing said, proudly waving her phone. "Someone already posted about it on the university forums this morning! They basically live-blogged the whole thing—you playing the hero and saving the damsel in distress at the competition, and then solving an Academician’s problem in ten minutes!"

"When I saw the post, I was thinking that if you and Yanyan were still in the Imperial Capital tonight, I’d just head over and find you guys. But then I asked Yanyan on WeChat, and she said Principal Chang had already brought you back to campus."

Chen Lin understood now. ’So she saw Li Zihan’s post and then followed the breadcrumbs,’ he thought.

He immediately followed up with another question. "So how did you know I’d be at my dorm?"

Yunqing blinked as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "I just took a guess! I figured you’d have to come back to your dorm to drop off your luggage first. If I waited here and you didn’t show up, I was just going to call you and ask where you were."
