Chapter 2220 - 1595: Evil Demons Halted, the Earth Mother’s Protection
"Ah, All Gods and Ancestor! What will be the future of our Puerto Rican Taino Tribe? This unprecedented and terrifying catastrophe... what should be done to ensure the survival of the tribe?..."
The sea wind blew past, causing the towering trees to rustle, like the waves by the sea. Yet, apart from the relentless passage of time, no one could provide an answer for the future.
This stretch of Puerto Rico’s Central Mountain Range undulates, using its magnificent will to protect and embrace the Taino Tribe within the mountains. The Castilian expeditionary army, not even hindered by the force of the Taino Tribe, was stopped by the "Ridge of the Earth Mother," unable to advance further. This is the might of geography, a grandeur of nature that surpasses the limits of human force in this era!
In the original history, while the coastal Taino Tribes across Puerto Rico were swiftly conquered, enslaved, and annihilated by the colonizers, the Taino Tribe of the Central Mountain Range strived to survive for half a century. This mountain forest range extending across the entire Great Island of Puerto Rico actually connects each part of the island, making it the best guerrilla terrain!
However, the Taino people’s lack of metal weapons, limited combat capabilities, and gentle temperaments made this excellent guerrilla terrain merely a home for hiding and continuation, not a battlefield for counterattack. But if the Warriors of the Kingdom could reach here... how differently might the course of this colonial war develop?
"Ancestor! Faster! Even faster!..."
Three hundred miles to the west, the escaping Messenger Rabbit Leg, along with a few fishermen from the West Bay Tribe, desperately paddled the canoe. They bore the news of the arrival of the Evil Demon, aiming to cross the two to three hundred miles of strait between Puerto Rico and the Great Island of Haiti, to seek aid from the Haiti Tribe across the strait. At the speed of their small boat, it would take a full seven to eight days to cross this "dangerous" strait.
"Ah! What is that?!"
The fishermen from the West Bay Tribe on the boat suddenly exclaimed in surprise, their bodies trembling. And as Rabbit Leg looked over upon hearing, he too immediately stiffened, not daring to move. He saw two large ships with sails bearing the same flag as the Evil Demons, sailing on the sea several miles away. Their speed was incredibly fast, and on such open waters, they surely had already seen this small boat.
"Hey! Captain De La Cosa! There’s a small boat of natives over there!"
"Hmm."
De La Cosa frowned, seemingly pondering something. His arm was wrapped in bandages, and some sailors on the ship were also wounded, with a few missing.
"Almighty protect us! Captain, should we approach them and use the cannon to blast them away?"
"Fire the cannon? Forget it! Judging by their attire, they’re those non-threatening ’Taino People’, not those pesky ’Carib’..."
De La Cosa glanced at the small boat not far away, shook his head and said.
"Witness of the Almighty! After a nonsensical fight with those Caribbean Natives, we wasted quite a bit of gunpowder and lost several sailors. What kind of arrows are they? How could just a scratch cause death?... Most of our gunpowder got damp and became ineffective during the storm crossing, and what’s left must be used sparingly. Ignore this small boat. Full sail, return to our San Juan Bay departure!"
"Yes, Captain! Continue eastward!"
In the evening glow, the two Caravel light sailing ships resembled elegant gliding white whales. They merely cast a glance with disdain, letting their elongated shadows pass by Rabbit Leg’s Taino canoe. And after randomly praying while touching the Book of Ama Colley beneath him, Rabbit Leg once again put his strength into paddling. The exploration ship of the Castilians sped swiftly east, while the Taino’s plea for aid canoe struggled westward, passing by each other as they ventured toward different seas and islands~~
