Chapter 116: Episode 115: What’s with the noise
Rue slept a lot more often since the Dragon King and the Northern Wolf arrived.
Her small rabbit body just shut down under the stress.
It kept her bare toes perfectly warm. She didn’t want to wake up. She didn’t want to deal with four giant men walking around her tiny living room.
Caius sat at the wooden table on the other side of the room. He watched her sleep. He made sure the other three men sat quietly so they wouldn’t disturb her rest.
"She’s very fragile," Caius told them softly. He kept his cold voice down to a quiet whisper. "She always just accepts her fate. She doesn’t fight back because she thinks she can’t win. She’s sweet. She’s loving. You can’t push her."
Drax nodded slowly. The giant black dragon sat in the corner. He looked serious. He actually listened to every single word. He understood the delicate situation perfectly.
Caius liked that a lot. He preferred Drax’s calm, silent understanding way more than Axel’s arrogant smirks or Knox’s loud energy.
Caius hated sharing his mate. His deadly snake instincts screamed at him to hide her away in a dark cave forever. He wanted her all to himself. But he swallowed his dangerous pride. As long as Rue always chose to sit in his lap and smile at him, he didn’t have a huge problem with the others.
He did have a question burning right in his sharp mind.
He watched Axel lean heavily against the wooden wall. He watched Drax sit in the small wooden chair. He remembered their mother vividly. Roxann was a legend. Why on earth were Roxann’s children suddenly all getting tied to Rue? It felt like a planned setup by the Beastworld gods. He needed to investigate that weird bloodline connection immediately.
Theron didn’t care about serious conversations at all.
The tiny silver snake toddler was curious about the new visitors. He wanted to know why they were taking up so much space in his house. He slithered quickly across the warm floorboards. His shiny scales made a soft scraping sound. He stopped right at Axel’s winter boots.
Axel looked down. The white wolf grinned widely. He knelt directly on the floor. He didn’t look scared of the venomous baby.
"Hey there, little snake," Axel whispered. He pointed a thick finger directly at his own chest. "I’m Dada three. Can you say three?"
Theron tilted his small head. His bright golden eyes blinked twice. He wiggled his shiny silver tail excitedly.
"Three!" Theron babbled happily. He skipped the word, Dada. He just liked the number.
Axel laughed out loud. "Smart kid."
Knox growled loudly from the small kitchen area. "Don’t teach my son to call you that. He already has a father."
"He babbled three," Axel pointed out smugly. "He clearly likes me better."
Every single time Theron saw Axel walk past the hearth now, the toddler threw his chubby hands up and yelled the number three. It drove the giant panther absolutely crazy. Knox threatened to throw the wolf into the swamp at least five times today.
Drax stood up from his small chair. His shoulders almost brushed the low wooden ceiling. He looked around the crowded cabin with a frown.
It was a very nice cabin. The logs were thick. The fire was warm. But it was tiny for this wild family. They had four giant, heavily muscled warlords. They had a pregnant rabbit girl who needed total peace. They had a feral snow leopard cub chewing on the table legs. They had a highly energetic snake toddler climbing the walls constantly.
"This space is way too small," Drax stated flatly. His dark eyes scanned the tiny kitchen area. "We need to move soon."
Axel nodded in total agreement. "We need a house. We need thick stone walls."
Knox didn’t argue. He actually bumped elbows with Axel twice this morning just trying to make a simple bowl of soup.
Caius leaned back in his wooden chair. He crossed his long legs smoothly.
"I was already considering a new build," Caius admitted quietly. "The swamp borders have plenty of safe land. I can clear a large section easily. But we aren’t moving a single piece of furniture until after Rue gives birth. The stress of moving will break her down right now. She needs absolute stability."
"Agreed," Drax said simply. He crossed his thick arms over his broad chest. "We wait for the baby. Then we build a fortress."
A loud, sudden series of knocks hit the front door.
All four men froze. Their wild predator instincts flared up instantly. Knox dropped his iron pan loudly into the sink. Caius stood straight up. Drax narrowed his dark eyes. Axel dropped his hand to the knife resting on his belt.
The wooden door swung wide open before anyone could even reach the iron handle.
Tanith walked right in. Gianna followed closely behind her. Tyara stepped through the door frame last. The three women brought a huge gust of fresh morning air into the stuffy cabin.
They stopped dead in their tracks.
Tanith stared directly at Axel. Gianna’s jaw dropped when she saw Drax standing casually in the corner.
Tyara burst into sudden, loud laughter.
"Oh my god," Tyara gasped out. She held her stomach tightly. "If mother could see this right now, she’d be laughing in total shock. You two are actually here."
Tanith shook her head. A huge, bright smile spread across her face.
"No, she wouldn’t laugh," Tanith corrected warmly. "She’d be excited. She’d be thrilled her children were following right in her footsteps."
Tanith walked fully into the room. She ignored the angry panther . She ignored the cold snake . She walked straight up to the Dragon King. She looked directly into Drax’s tired, dark eyes.
"She’s the one, right?" Tanith asked softly. "The girl you were looking for."
Drax rolled his eyes. He tried to look tough. He tried to look unbothered by his sister’s probing questions. He failed. A very bright, highly visible red blush appeared right on his pale cheeks. He looked away from Tanith quickly.
Gianna didn’t miss it. She pointed a sharp finger directly at his face.
"Oh my god, is that a blush I see there!" Gianna yelled. Her voice was loud. It was full of pure teasing joy. "The terrifying Dragon King is actually blushing like a small boy!"
"Shut up, Gianna," Drax grumbled deeply. His face turned even redder. He crossed his arms tighter to look intimidating.
Tyara laughed even louder.
The three women filled the tiny cabin with chaotic energy. They ignored the fact that they were standing in a room full of highly dangerous warlords. They were family. They didn’t care about royal titles.
They didn’t care about alpha dominance. They just wanted to tease their older brother for finally finding love.
The loud voices echoed sharply off the wooden walls. The chaotic noise carried straight to the back of the room.
Under the thick grey blankets, Rue groaned.
She rubbed her tired pink eyes with her small fists. She pushed the blankets off her body. She really didn’t want to wake up. Her bones ached. Her head felt fuzzy. Her bare feet hit the cold floorboards heavily.
She grabbed her fluffy white feather pillow. She hugged it tightly against her chest.
She forgot she was only wearing a very thin, almost see-through white cotton robe. Her brain was asleep. She didn’t care who was in the house right now. She didn’t care about modesty. She just wanted the loud yelling to stop immediately so she could go right back to sleep.
She shuffled slowly out from behind the large stone bed. She dragged her feet across the woven rugs.
She stood right in front of all of them. Her silver hair was a complete messy bird’s nest on top of her head. Her pink eyes were half closed. She leaned heavily against the wooden wall for support.
"What’s with all the noise...."
