Chapter 536 - 566: A Taste of Home
Although his daughter and son-in-law were always abroad, Qin Zhonghui and Su Yun treated Mr. Du like their own father, so he never felt lonely.
On more than one occasion, he had privately told Shen Yi, "You have to treat your future father-in-law and mother-in-law well. Oh, and be even better to Xiao Jiao."
Shen Yi always agreed with a beaming smile.
’That was his sole purpose in this life—to come back and treat Jiao Jiao well!’
Youjia Noodle House’s opening day was set for the first weekend after the students started school. When Qin Jiao and Shen Yi’s classmates heard the news, they all rushed over that afternoon to show their support. Qin Jiao suggested to her parents that they give her and Shen Yi’s classmates a discount. But Su Yun thought for a moment and said, "Let’s do one better. Any of your classmates who can prove it with their student ID gets to eat for free today! If they like the food, they’ll bring other students back with them in the future."
They were living advertisements!
And Qin Zhonghui and Su Yun were both extremely confident in their own culinary skills.
Qin Jiao had also added some Spiritual Spring Water to the water used for making the noodle dough. It wasn’t much and had been diluted many times over, but it was enough to make their noodles’ texture far superior to any other restaurant’s. It gave them a sweet fragrance that was impossible to describe!
Besides noodles, they also offered dumplings, steamed buns, and other flour-based dishes. The diligent and skillful Su Yun had also prepared a variety of delicious cold side dishes.
Every customer who came to the noodle house received a small complimentary dish. The combination of fragrant noodle soup with its superb texture and a refreshing cold side dish was simply delightful.
Word got out that any classmate of Qin Jiao and Shen Yi could eat for free just by showing their student ID, and suddenly, the noodle house was flooded with people!
As it was a new restaurant, the locals had been taking a wait-and-see approach. But then this crowd of students flooded in, instantly making the place look incredibly popular.
The students ate quickly and left in a boisterous wave. Their presence piqued the curiosity of onlookers, some of whom then decided to step inside the noodle house themselves.
The noodle house was decorated in a warm, welcoming style. For those working far from their hometowns, it instantly felt like coming home. You’d be greeted with a bowl of hot noodle broth while you decided on your order, followed shortly by a complimentary side dish.
Even if a bowl of tomato and egg noodles cost a little more than elsewhere, everyone was still happy to pay for it!
One of the men, after finishing his meal, saw that they also sold steamed buns and dumplings and immediately bought some. He said, "Perfect! I’ll take these home for breakfast tomorrow!"
Qin Na was helping at the register. She initially thought that with all the free meals for the students, they wouldn’t earn much that day. To her surprise, she was so swamped with payments that her hands started to ache!
This was because Qin Jiao’s classmates brought their friends along. While the classmate’s bowl of noodles was on the house, their friends still had to pay.
The prices were very reasonable, and given that the noodles were genuinely delicious and came with a free side dish, it was a fantastic deal.
One of the girls started to tear up as she ate. She said, "This is so much like the hand-pulled noodles my mom makes. I’m getting a little homesick."
Su Yun added a fried egg to the girl’s bowl and said gently, "It’s not easy for you all, studying so far from home. Feel free to come by and eat here more often. I can also make other homestyle side dishes, so if there’s anything you’re particularly craving, I’ll make it for you."
The girl nodded emphatically. "Mhm! Thank you, Auntie!"
Su Yun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’What’s she thanking me for?’ she thought. ’I’m still running a business to earn money from all of you.’
It wasn’t realistic for a single student to eat there every day, but they could come once or twice a week. Plus, there were many schools in the area—not just North City University and the North City Institute of Technology, but also several other universities and even a few elementary and middle schools.
