Back to the 1980s: Becoming the Villain's Lucky Wife

Chapter 555 - 585: Perhaps She Had Been Wrong All Along

At first, the old matriarch was still a bit haughty. She would frequently lecture her daughter on how to properly dote on her son-in-law. She would even tell her second son’s wife the same old-fashioned things, like how she needed to serve Zhong Hui dutifully because she hadn’t borne him a son.

She even lectured Qin Jiao, telling her to hurry up and give Shen Yi a son so she could keep him.

But over the past two years, everyone started talking back to her. It made the old matriarch feel like her old way of thinking wasn’t effective anymore, that something was off. Never mind anyone else—just look at Qin Jiao and her husband. Whether at home or out in public, it was always Shen Yi doting on Qin Jiao!

This was completely different from the old matriarch’s belief that the man was the pillar of the family!

Then she saw that her second son and his wife, as well as her daughter and son-in-law, were all living in joyful harmony. In the end, the old matriarch simply fell silent.

Maybe, just maybe, she had been wrong all along.

Now, after spending more than two years in North City, the old matriarch was eating well, living comfortably, and had no worries. She didn’t have to do any chores and was never tired, so her complexion had become much rosier.

She was wearing her reading glasses and threading a needle. She said, "I can mend this myself. Xiao Na, you go out and keep an eye on the children."

Qin Na smiled. "Don’t worry, there are plenty of people outside. Jianhua and the guys are out there too."

Qin Zhonghui, Sun Jianhua, and Beidou were all outside. The weather was beautiful today. Sometime before, Shen Yi had hired someone to build a canopy in the courtyard so they could eat outdoors when the weather was nice.

It was lively with so many people gathered around a large round table, drinking, eating, and looking up at the brilliant, starry sky.

The feeling was simply incredible.

Qin Zhonghui and Sun Jianhua finished setting up the table and even trimmed the nearby grapevines. As for Beidou, he had a camera, snapping photos, lending a hand, and generally joining in on the fun.

When Qin Jiao and Shen Yi returned, this was the heartwarming, harmonious scene that greeted them. The two exchanged a look.

Then, hand in hand, they started to walk inside.

But after just a few steps, Qin Jiao suddenly frowned, her hand flying to her stomach.

Shen Yi turned back. "Jiao Jiao, what’s wrong?"

"It’s nothing. I probably just have a bit of an upset stomach."

Hearing that Qin Jiao was feeling unwell, Shen Yi immediately went on high alert. He said, "Come on, let’s get inside. I’ll get you some warm water to drink."

Qin Jiao didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "That’s such a classic straight-guy solution. Feeling sick? Not feeling well? The universal cure-all is to just drink some water, huh?"

"Jiao Jiao, I’m just worried about you..."

"I know, I know. I’m fine. It’s probably just a little upset stomach, that’s all. Come on, everyone’s busy and waiting to celebrate with us. Let’s not dawdle at the door."

Since Qin Jiao put it that way, Shen Yi couldn’t insist any further and followed her inside.

Little Gu Duo had the sharpest eyes. She spotted Qin Jiao and Shen Yi from a distance, immediately abandoned Xiao Sun Yu, and ran toward them, waving her chubby little hands.

"Big Bro! Pretty Sister!"

Her little short legs pumped surprisingly fast, and in no time, she had dashed right up to Qin Jiao. Qin Jiao was also very fond of Little Gu Duo, who was as pretty as a porcelain doll. For her part, Little Gu Duo much preferred her beautiful and sweet-smelling sister-in-law, so she threw herself right into Qin Jiao’s arms.

Although she ran with considerable force, she was only a three-year-old girl, after all. Qin Jiao didn’t think it was a big deal, and even Shen Yi, who was normally so protective of Qin Jiao, thought nothing of it.

The result, however, was something no one expected.

Little Gu Duo had knocked Qin Jiao over?
