Gong Ruini stood at the school gate, clutching a thick stack of books and mumbling nonstop.

"Just an unemployed loafer, how can he have so much going on."

Gong Ruini really didn’t understand why Zhao Xuran was too busy to pick her up; what exactly is he up to?

"Hmph, if he can’t surprise us this time."

"No, if he’s unable to make us satisfied." Gong Ruini thought that if he was trying to seem genuinely surprised, this so-called proposal was destined to fail.

"If this continues, I really need to ask." Gong Ruini could tolerate Zhao Xuran being busy, since he was supposed to give her a big surprise.

But he couldn’t be this busy; Gong Ruini felt like her recent days were filled with indifference.

Even though Zhao Xuran did a decent job with meals and snacks, and even when he wasn’t home, the food was always sorted out.

But as a pregnant woman studying in the unfamiliar environment of the United States, the anxiety was something she couldn’t manage alone.

Having Zhao Xuran by her side was what made Gong Ruini feel much more at ease.

"Hmph, women really can’t lower their guard, otherwise men might just wander off who knows where."

Gong Ruini always felt that men needed to be managed, but not too strictly; a bit of freedom was necessary.

"Ni Zi, Ni Zi." Gong Ruwen drove over and saw Gong Ruini standing alone at the school gate, muttering to herself non-stop, nearly cracking him up.

If she just kept murmuring, that would be fine, but this girl had such animated expressions on her face.

He didn’t know exactly what Gong Ruini was talking about, but it probably had something to do with Zhao Xuran.

Gong Ruini seemed to be caught in a drama, considering how to pressure Zhao Xuran without making him dislike her.

In short, balancing these two things was quite a challenge, and Gong Ruini really wanted to say that the pressure was tremendous.

Right now, the worst part was being spotted by Gong Ruwen, and there was no need to ask how he knew; his smug smile said it all.

"Brother, why are you so slow."

"Clearly you had nothing going on." Gong Ruini grumbled as she got in the car and slammed the door, venting without restraint.

"You’ve been in the United States for so long, what have you learned?"

"And have you made any plans?"

"Brother, weren’t you hanging out with Xuran?" Wait a minute, wasn’t he supposed to be busy? Why doesn’t he have time to pick her up, yet Gong Ruwen managed to be free?

The only thing that could keep Zhao Xuran busy right now was this supermarket plan in Gong Ruwen’s hands; there shouldn’t be anything else.

Even their current stage’s living expenses relied on making money in the stock market.

"Did something go wrong with the stock market?" Gong Ruini asked nervously.

After all, part of the money invested in the stock market was everyone’s, and even if it suffered losses, Gong Ruini wasn’t afraid. If worst comes to worst, selling fixed assets would fill this gap; it wasn’t too big, and they could definitely solve it.

Why was Zhao Xuran absent, causing Gong Ruini to nervously inquire about the stock market? What on earth?

Gong Ruwen looked at Gong Ruini, puzzled.

"It’s fine, it’s fine." Of course Gong Ruini couldn’t reveal the truth, though there wasn’t really anything to hide. As long as they repay this money in the end, ensuring the house can be renovated, it wouldn’t be a big deal. But spreading word of this misappropriation wouldn’t be respectable.

It’s fine? She was obviously scared to death before, and when asked what’s wrong, she stubbornly refused to answer.

Normally, Gong Ruwen would press for more details, but he had been helping sort through numerous matters these past couple of days; he was truly exhausted.

He didn’t have the energy to continue questioning, and the fact that Gong Ruini was so tense and silent indicated major issues, plenty of them.

His animal instinct told Gong Ruwen that there are times when ignorance is bliss.

By not probing further, Gong Ruwen let Gong Ruini breathe a sigh of relief.

From the rearview mirror, Gong Ruwen could see his sister truly relaxing, and instantly his heart was filled with dread.

Could it be they’ve really encountered a huge problem? Gong Ruwen started to ponder.

The only things that would make his sister tense are money or very bad situations, but Gong Ruini and they just started school; they had been peacefully staying home before, so logically, they shouldn’t have enemies.

Then it must be money-related, but even that possibility isn’t high.

Is Ni Zi worried that Zhao Xuran didn’t pick her up because of trouble? Gong Ruwen’s mind quickly pivoted to this idea.

If that’s the case, it makes sense. Thinking about it, Gong Ruwen suddenly anticipated Gong Ruini’s reaction later.

Would she explode in anger because Zhao Xuran hadn’t picked her up?

If so, how would Zhao Xuran react? He’d probably be dumbfounded.

Thinking about this made Gong Ruwen secretly amused; he had previously mentioned that some things should be conveyed to Ni Zi.

But someone was overly confident, claiming everything would be fine with his competency and Ni Zi’s understanding.

Now look, maybe this matter has blown up.

Gong Ruwen was secretly laughing inside, but showed no expression, even though Gong Ruini had a rather clueless look on her face, who knows when she might snap back to reality.

And when she does notice, Gong Ruwen thought he’d better be careful.

Anyway, everything was unfolding according to Zhao Xuran’s plan; if Gong Ruini had issues, she’d have to take it up with Zhao Xuran.

Gong Ruwen was anxious the entire ride, worried Gong Ruini might see through things, yet she remained remarkably quiet throughout the drive.

Which really alarmed Gong Ruwen; he knows his sister well, and if she grumbled and vented any dissatisfaction, it meant the problem wasn’t severe, and she’d adjust herself.

Now the crucial issue is that she hasn’t adjusted, and if she bursts out upon seeing Zhao Xuran, then what?

If she did explode, the scene would be unimaginable, oh god, Gong Ruwen dared not think about it.

Don’t be fooled by Gong Ruini seeming like the perfect lady normally; occasionally, she would deliver stinging remarks, rarely resorting to force.

But those few occasional times were enough to leave indelible impressions.

Yet today was significant.

Will everyone blame him for being unclear and giving Ni Zi unfounded ideas?

There wouldn’t have been chaos, nor a mess made.

Oh, Gong Ruwen genuinely felt unfortunate, what to do.

Could anyone save him? Gong Ruwen worried he might be tossed into the river today.

Especially Zhao Xuran, this brother wasn’t soft-hearted at all.
