Chapter 307: The Suspected Vampire Monster
The Snow Wolf’s docility made Xue Yin’s jaw drop.
What shocked her even more was that the Snow Wolf actually nodded!
It nodded!
It agreed!
Yu An beckoned Xue Yin over. Xue Yin walked over in a daze, mechanically lighting a fire to roast potatoes.
The Snow Wolf just lay there on the ground, letting Yu An groom its fur.
While Xue Yin was in shock, Yu An was secretly giving Han Li a mental flick on the forehead.
’According to the script, you’re supposed to be majestically guarding the "Snow Flower" right now. Why aren’t you following the plan? Why are you acting all spineless and cute with me instead?’
Han Li couldn’t care less about that. It had been ages since he’d been in his beast form to act cute with An’an.
Yu An didn’t let him transform into his beast form whenever he wanted. If he did, she’d get hopelessly lost in his fluffiness and neglect her duties.
Everything went smoothly after that. Yu An wrapped the roasted potatoes and sweet potatoes in a cloth, and the Snow Wolf snatched it in its mouth and ran off.
They obtained the "Snow Flower" without a hitch. Since there was no fight with the Snow Wolf, the "Snow Flower" was undamaged. Aside from the part that touched the ground, the rest of it was perfectly clean, free of any dirt.
Cradling the "Snow Flower," Xue Yin wept with joy. In her excitement, she overlooked some unusual little details.
For example, the "Snow Flower" seemed to smell a bit like... a steamed bun?
Xue Yin caught a whiff of wheat, but there was also a sweet fragrance mixed in.
The scent was invigorating, so she didn’t have the slightest suspicion.
Yu An had mixed some Divine Spring Water into the dough; that was the source of the sweetness.
Overcome with excitement, Xue Yin had lost all her previous composure and was about to head back with the "Snow Flower."
Yu An quickly stopped her. "Sister Xiao Yin, I know you’re anxious for Tongtong to take it, but there are too many people over there."
Everyone knows what a Snow Flower looks like. Carrying it back like this would be like a child carrying gold through a crowded market.
Yu An suggested she guard the "Snow Flower" here while Xue Yin went back to get Tongtong.
Xue Yin agreed without a second thought. Only after she left did Han Li emerge.
"BLEH, BLEH, BLEH—"
Even after drinking lots of water, Han Li could still taste dirt in his mouth. He hugged Yu An, feeling utterly wronged.
"An’an, I’ve never eaten so much dirt in my life..."
Yu An silenced him with a kiss.
Han Li’s tone changed instantly. "An’an, I think acting is pretty fun. When do we get to do it again?"
"Getting addicted to acting, are we?" Yu An chuckled. "Why don’t you go into the space and act with Zaizai and the others?"
"Let me see... Hmm, they’re putting on a play of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
Little Serpent is playing Snow White, Little Wolf is the prince, and the seven prisoners are the dwarfs. They’re all gathered around watching the prince’s true love’s kiss.
Little Serpent was lying on a rock, a look of complete despair on its face.
Yu An couldn’t stop laughing at the sight.
Han Li’s eyes lit up. "An’an, if you play Snow White, then I’ll play..."
"Don’t even think about it," Yu An said, mercilessly covering his mouth. "Hurry and go, someone’s coming."
Han Li: "..."
’Do I have to hide from people that much?’
Xue Yin quickly returned with Tongtong. No one else had come with them.
She didn’t dare gamble on human nature. Even with her own husband and teammates, she couldn’t guarantee they wouldn’t try to snatch the Snow Flower.
Seeing Yu An still waiting in the same spot, Xue Yin let out a huge sigh of relief. She had regretted her decision on the way back, worried that Yu An might take the Snow Flower for herself.
Thankfully, she had been too narrow-minded.
Yu An pretended not to see her guilt and smilingly called Tongtong over, telling her to eat the "Snow Flower."
Tongtong took a bite. ’Hm, this feels like I’m eating a steamed bun.’
Yu An kept a hand on her shoulder, activating her superpower to deal with the Gu Worm. She moved carefully, and Xue Yin, whose attention was entirely on Tongtong, didn’t notice anything unusual.
When the entire "Snow Flower" was gone, Xue Yin asked nervously, "Tongtong, tell Mother, how do you feel?"
Tongtong looked like she wanted more. She thought for a moment and replied, "It’s yummy and sweet."
Just as she finished speaking, she suddenly felt a strange sensation in her throat. She opened her mouth and spat out a mouthful of bloody fluid.
Xue Yin jumped in alarm and quickly checked Tongtong’s pulse. Having sought medical help for Tongtong everywhere for many years, she had practically become half a physician herself.
She couldn’t find anything wrong. Just then, Yu An suggested that perhaps the Snow Flower was taking effect, and that after spitting up this blood, Tongtong might be cured.
Seeing Tongtong’s rosy complexion and how she didn’t seem to be in any discomfort—in fact, she looked much more energetic than before—Xue Yin’s anxious heart settled a little.
"Tongtong, you have to tell Mother if you feel uncomfortable at all, understand?"
Tongtong nodded and said in a clear, bright voice, "I know, Mother!"
She thought for a moment and added, "Mother, my body doesn’t hurt anymore, and my tummy is full."
Listening from the side, Yu An thought, ’She ate a whole steamed bun, of course she’s full.’
Perhaps due to the Gu Worm’s influence, Tongtong had a large appetite and got hungry quickly. Before they came out, Yu An had seen Tongtong eating.
Now she’d eaten another sizable flower-shaped steamed bun, so she was definitely full.
The three of them soon headed back, carrying two baskets of potatoes and sweet potatoes. When people asked, they answered.
Hearing that these two things tasted good and could be stored for a long time, many people went to dig some up.
Tongtong’s father, Zhang Cheng, took the basket from his wife’s hands and humbly asked Han Li for cooking instructions.
Han Li wasn’t great with hands-on practice, but he was full of theoretical knowledge. He spoke eloquently, describing one cooking method after another, leaving Zhang Cheng utterly stunned.
"Um, Brother Han, is there anything we can make right here?"
French fries, sweet potato balls... there’s no way to make those here!
Han Li fell silent for a moment, then started to build a fire.
Because of her strange illness, Tongtong couldn’t do any strenuous exercise, as it would worsen the pain in her body. She could only sit quietly to the side.
Seeing that Tongtong was now full of life, Xue Yin instructed her to pretend to be weak for a while longer.
What if some unscrupulous person decided to just snatch Tongtong away?
It was best to be cautious.
Their family was on the verge of escaping their suffering; they had to be careful.
Before long, many people began to prepare for departure.
Mo Yan and the other two didn’t enter the space, traveling with Yu An instead.
With them joining the group, Yu An and Han Li looked even more formidable. Neither Feng Qi nor the Han Family Master came over again.
After setting out, Yu An parted ways with Xue Yin and her family. Xue Yin gave Yu An their address and invited her to visit.
Yu An agreed with a smile and randomly chose a passage to enter.
Once on the path out, you would see many forks in the road. Each path led to an exit, but their lengths varied, as did the things one might encounter along the way.
Some would pass through safely, while others might encounter monsters and meet their end here.
Yu An had asked Xue Yin about it. It wasn’t Xue Yin’s first time here, but she had never encountered any monsters, so she could only relay the rumors she had heard to Yu An.
"The people who were lucky enough to escape never saw what the monster actually looked like. They only heard the sound of wind and a CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH noise that set their teeth on edge."
"They say the monster doesn’t eat people, it only drinks blood. It can drain a person dry in an instant."
"They say they’re afraid of light. If you run into them, lighting a torch can drive them away."
"They say..."
Yu An thought it over. ’Why does that sound like Vampires?’
