Chapter 276: This Baby is Feng Xuan
Feng Zhi had just given birth and was too weak to utter a single word. Besides, she had no idea what Patriarch Feng was talking about.
A monster?
What monster?
That’s right, the midwife hadn’t finished speaking before she heard a series of screams from inside the room. But she was so drained of energy that she couldn’t get up to see what was happening.
Seeing Feng Zhi struggling to breathe, Yu An quickly sent a bit of her superpower over to her, finally giving her the strength to speak.
"Family Head, what... what happened? What monster...?"
"You have the nerve to ask me!"
Patriarch Feng’s face was grim as he threw Feng Zhi onto the bed. "See for yourself! You turned a perfectly auspicious son into a monster! Where is the Feng family’s honor now!"
Hearing the commotion, an attendant brought the swaddled baby in. Feng Zhi scrambled to sit up, but one glance was enough to make her nearly faint.
’What kind of monster did I give birth to?!’
Patriarch Feng’s expression was grim. To make matters worse, the Feng family had already spread the news, and the entire city was waiting to see the so-called auspicious son.
Now that a monster had been born, the auspicious son had become a freak. Losing face was a minor issue; he was afraid the entire Feng family would be branded a house of demons!
At this thought, he looked at the deathly pale Feng Zhi, and the idea of killing them both, mother and son, arose in his mind.
It was common for a woman to die from a difficult childbirth. Without the "auspicious son," it would only be the talk of the town for a few days. But if news of a freak being born got out, the entire Feng family would be too ashamed to show their faces!
Yu An keenly sensed a murderous intent. As Patriarch Feng’s lover, Feng Zhi was even more familiar with his temperament.
She instinctively snatched the swaddled baby and stared warily at Patriarch Feng.
She could feel that this was her child. Even though... even though he looked strange, she wouldn’t allow anyone to hurt him!
"Husband," Feng Zhi pleaded, "I really don’t know why it turned out like this, but he’s our child!"
Patriarch Feng was exceptionally cold. He already had several children. The only reason he had placed importance on Feng Zhi’s pregnancy was that the prestigious Tian Family from the Upper Realm had divined that this would be an auspicious son, one who could guarantee generations of prosperity.
Now that it had turned out to be a monster, Patriarch Feng simply waved his hand, signaling his attendant to snatch the child.
Feng Zhi’s face went white with terror. A weak woman who had just given birth, she had no strength to resist.
Yu An frowned and stepped in front of her. Just as she was about to summon vines to whisk the mother and son away, the little tiger cub in the swaddling clothes suddenly started to cry.
The next second, Feng Zhi felt a weight in her arms and discovered the little tiger cub was gone. In its place was a fair, tender-skinned baby boy.
This sudden change stunned everyone present. Doctor Chen, who had been cowering in a corner, feared he would be silenced forever and quickly said, "Patriarch Feng, since the esteemed lady’s child is an auspicious son, he is certainly different from ordinary people."
"In the five cardinal directions of the Heaven and Earth Illusion Realm, there is a temple for each. As far as this old man knows, one of them enshrines a white tiger!"
The midwife beside him nodded hurriedly. "When the young master was born, he had a layer of white fuzz on his body. Isn’t that just like a white tiger!"
"Now the young master has turned into a person. This old woman has delivered hundreds, if not thousands, of babies, and I’ve never seen such a fair and tender little one."
Feng Zhi wanted to say something too, but she was trembling so violently she couldn’t speak. She could only look at Patriarch Feng with hope in her eyes, praying he would believe their explanations.
Hearing this, Patriarch Feng hesitated.
His face grim, he walked over and glanced at the baby in the swaddling clothes. Sure enough, he was fairer and more adorable than all his previous children.
Seeing the tables turn, Yu An had an idea. She made all the unopened flowers in the courtyard blossom and released a sweet fragrance into the air.
The fragrance instantly filled the room. When Patriarch Feng smelled it, he subconsciously searched for its source.
"Family Head, it’s the scent of flowers! All the flowers in the courtyard have bloomed!"
Patriarch Feng lifted the curtain over the door and looked outside. Indeed, all the flowers had bloomed, and they were more beautiful than in any previous year.
What was most outrageous was the pomegranate tree in the courtyard—it was suddenly laden with bright red fruit!
Seeing the entire room of people dumbfounded, Yu An touched the tip of her nose.
’I overdid it.’
But back to the matter at hand. Seeing these strange phenomena, Patriarch Feng was now completely convinced that the child Feng Zhi had borne was the auspicious son.
He clapped his hands and laughed heartily, walking forward to see his auspicious son as if the earlier conflict had never happened.
Yu An noticed that Feng Zhi’s body was rigid. She forced a smile, but a trace of grievance still showed through.
Patriarch Feng took the opportunity to offer a few words of comfort. She knew when to back down, but as he looked at the baby, she continued to hold the swaddling clothes tightly, terrified it would be snatched away.
Afterward, using the excuse that she needed to rest, Feng Zhi had everyone leave. Once the door was closed, she could no longer hold back her silent tears.
"Don’t be scared, don’t be scared... Mommy will protect you..."
Feng Zhi murmured to herself for a moment, wiped her tears, and lifted the blanket, only to meet a pair of calm eyes.
Yu An, standing to the side, saw it too. ’Is it my imagination, or is the baby looking at me?’
She thought she must have been mistaken. Just as she was about to move away, the baby in the swaddling clothes suddenly reached out a small, fair, and tender hand toward her.
Feng Zhi was stunned. "This... Is there something over there?"
’Who is the baby reaching for?’
She clutched the baby tighter in fear. Yu An thought for a moment and decided to try saying something.
"Can you hear me speaking?"
She said it just to see what would happen, not expecting Feng Zhi to actually hear her. Feng Zhi’s body began to tremble violently.
"W-Who’s there? Who is it!"
Hearing a voice but seeing no one... ’Is there a demon next to me?’
"Don’t be afraid. I’m... a friend of the child in your arms. Um, he was reincarnated as an auspicious son, and I was worried he’d be mistaken for a demon, so I rushed over to check on him."
"I was the one who helped you when you had no strength, and I also created the phenomenon of all the flowers blooming just now. Don’t be scared."
Yu An fabricated a random excuse, and thankfully, Feng Zhi believed her.
Having just been on the brink of life and death, there was nothing left for her to fear.
Yu An asked to hold the baby. Feng Zhi nodded slightly. Although there was still no one in sight, the swaddled baby in her arms floated into the air.
Yu An stared at the toothless little infant, studying him for a long time before finally coming to a conclusion—
This kid was Feng Xuan!
This little face of his—he looked like he was cast from the same mold as Da Hu and Xiao Hu.
A mischievous idea struck her. She took out a camera and started snapping pictures furiously. Feng Xuan, in his swaddling clothes, seemed to sense something and quickly raised his little hands to cover his face.
But that didn’t stop Yu An from taking pictures. She kept snapping away until she ran out of film, and even then, she wished she had more.
Feng Zhi was terrified the baby would fall and kept her arms ready to catch him. Thankfully, the invisible person soon placed the swaddled baby back on the bed.
"Miss, may I ask your name? Thank you so much. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know what I would have done..."
She was an orphan who had rescued Patriarch Feng when he was injured and collapsed on the roadside. After their feelings for each other grew over time, he brought her back to his home.
Only after arriving did she learn that Patriarch Feng already had a wife and children. But by then, she was already pregnant, and her unborn child was said to be an auspicious son, so leaving was no longer an option.
This tranquil place had been specially prepared by Patriarch Feng for her to carry her child. The servants attending to her were also from the Feng family’s staff, which meant there was not a single person she could trust!
