Chapter 89: Lin Feng’s Trust, an Inexplicable Feeling
"Mr. Lin."
"The residential complex is just ahead."
Huizi slowly pressed the accelerator and drove forward.
The headlights illuminated a man in a yellow delivery uniform standing anxiously at the complex’s entrance.
He seemed to be waiting for something.
When the headlights hit him, he shielded his eyes with his right hand and looked over.
"That’s Lü Na’s husband."
"I’ve met him once."
Huizi added.
Lin Feng glanced at the man not far away.
He looked a little flustered in the bright lights.
But he was still trying his best to see who was in the car.
He seemed to be trying to confirm if this was the car bringing Lü Na home.
Huizi brought the car to a steady stop at the entrance.
Lin Feng got out of the car.
"Hello, are you Mr. Wu?"
Lin Feng asked.
"Yes, yes, that’s me. You must be Mr. Lin?"
Lin Feng had briefly explained the situation when he had spoken with him on the phone earlier.
Lü Na’s husband looked rather ordinary.
And from being out in the elements year-round...
...he looked a bit old for his age.
He looked to be in his forties.
In this respect, Lü Na appeared very well-maintained.
One looked like she was thirty, the other looked like he was over forty.
There was an invisible gap between them.
"My apologies, Mr. Wu."
"Miss Lü accidentally got drunk, so I brought her home."
Lin Feng didn’t explain that Lü Na had actually gotten drunk on purpose.
Just getting her home was enough.
’Why bother with all that?’
Lin Feng didn’t have a habit of looking for trouble.
Especially when it came to other people’s family matters.
"That’s just how Nana is."
"She can’t hold her liquor, but she insists on drinking. I’m sorry to have troubled you, Mr. Lin."
Lü Na had called her husband in the afternoon and told him...
...that she was meeting a major client tonight.
And now, it was Lin Feng who had brought her back.
It was obvious that Lin Feng was that major client.
What surprised him, however, was how young Lin Feng looked.
He was quite different from the old men he had imagined.
"It’s no trouble. Mr. Wu, you should help Miss Lü inside so she can get some sleep."
"It’s getting late, and I should be going too."
Without any more pleasantries, Lin Feng opened the rear car door.
Inside, Lü Na was lying quietly on the back seat.
Huizi was a very steady driver.
So she hadn’t been jostled off the seat.
"Nana."
"Nana, wake up. It’s time to go home."
Lü Na’s husband called out to her softly a couple of times.
Then, he gently shook her.
But Lü Na didn’t react at all.
"Miss Lü had a bit too much to drink. You might have to carry her back, Mr. Wu."
Lin Feng said, standing by the car door.
Lü Na’s husband had clearly noticed this as well.
He got in and helped Lü Na into a half-sitting position.
But it was still a bit difficult for him to get Lü Na out of the car by himself.
But Lin Feng pretended not to see anything.
Huizi, in the driver’s seat, had no choice but to speak up. "Hold on, let me give you a hand."
Even though Lü Na had stolen her client that afternoon...
...Huizi didn’t show a petty side.
She proactively helped Lü Na’s husband lift her out of the car.
Lü Na couldn’t stand on her own at all.
Her husband had no choice but to carry her on his back.
The somewhat thin man carried Lü Na.
But he showed no intention of asking for help.
"Mr. Wu, we’ll be going now."
Lin Feng said his goodbyes.
Then, amidst the husband’s grateful words, he got back into the passenger seat.
Huizi also returned to the driver’s seat.
"Mr. Lin, where to next?"
Huizi asked, tucking a few stray hairs behind her ear.
"Take me home."
After buckling his seatbelt, Lin Feng gave her his address.
Neither of them spoke on the way.
Huizi drove very steadily.
Lin Feng drowsily ended up falling asleep.
He didn’t even know when they arrived.
In the end, it was Huizi who woke him up.
"Mr. Lin, we’ve arrived at your home."
After unbuckling her seatbelt, Huizi pulled out the car key from the driver’s seat and handed it to Lin Feng.
"Why are you giving me the car key?"
Lin Feng asked back.
"This is your car."
Huizi was a little surprised.
But Lin Feng shook his head.
"It’s so late. It’s not safe for you to take a taxi. Drive yourself home."
"Just come pick me up here tomorrow morning."
Huizi’s job was only to help Lin Feng find a suitable storefront.
It didn’t include being a designated driver.
Especially since the round trip had cost Huizi nearly two hours of her time.
It was already past one in the morning.
A girl like Huizi, especially one so beautiful...
...taking a taxi late at night was indeed unsafe.
"But..."
Huizi wanted to say more.
But Lin Feng had already gotten out of the car.
"Be careful on the road. If you wreck it, I’m not covering the damages."
With that, Lin Feng closed the car door.
Huizi looked at the car key in her hand.
Then at Lin Feng outside, walking toward the building entrance under the glow of the streetlight.
For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.
Huizi didn’t know much about Lin Feng.
Including their meeting at noon today, they had only met twice.
’Lin Feng is trusting me with his car, just like that?’
For a moment, Huizi was a bit stunned by Lin Feng’s trust in her.
In reality, the car had been fitted with a GPS tracker before Lin Feng rented it.
So he wasn’t afraid of Huizi taking off with the car at all.
But Huizi didn’t know that.
After experiencing so many dark things in one day...
...to suddenly be trusted like this by Lin Feng...
...gave Huizi a strange, indescribable feeling.
When she looked toward Lin Feng again...
...he had already entered the building.
When Lin Feng got home, his parents were already asleep.
Perhaps because they knew Lin Xiaoman was with Lin Feng...
...they weren’t worried enough to call him late at night.
Lin Feng quietly returned to his room.
Then he got into bed to sleep.
’It’s so late, I’ll skip the shower.’
’I’ll wash up tomorrow morning.’
’Don’t want to wake Mom and Dad.’
He slept soundly until the next morning.
His parents had already left for the day.
Lin Feng’s family restaurant didn’t actually serve breakfast.
They didn’t need to leave so early.
But his parents were used to going in early to get everything ready.
He placed the ring and watch on his bedside table.
Lin Feng went to the bathroom and took a shower.
When he came out, he saw that it was already ten in the morning.
He gave Su Ruoxi a call.
The call connected after a few rings.
Su Ruoxi’s voice, still a bit groggy, came from the other end.
"Hello, Brother Feng."
"Still sleepy?"
Lin Feng asked with a smile, toweling his slightly long hair.
"Mmm, Xiaoman and I talked pretty late last night."
"Well, you two should get some more sleep. I might have to go out for something in a bit."
"How about I pick you guys up for lunch?"
"Okay. If you’re busy, Brother Feng, Xiaoman and I can just eat at the hotel for lunch. We can go out together this afternoon."
Su Ruoxi must have been really tired.
Her voice grew quieter and quieter as she spoke.
Lin Feng thought that made sense.
He had an appointment with Huizi this morning to look at storefronts.
He wasn’t sure how long it would take.
It was already ten o’clock.
The round trip could take a few hours.
It would be even worse if they ran into traffic.
After exchanging a few more words with Su Ruoxi, Lin Feng hung up the phone.
He didn’t want to talk too much and completely wake her up.
