Chapter 256 - 255: Mr. Lin, Are You an Adult?
Two people were in the midst of a fiery discussion inside the office.
Meanwhile, the conference room was utterly silent.
Du Hai sat somewhat anxiously in the conference room.
He looked at Lin Feng, who sat across from him, exuding a completely different aura than the day before.
When he had run into Lin Feng yesterday, it had already been dark.
At the time, Du Hai had been lost in a mix of regret and other complex emotions.
Plus, they had later gone to a dimly lit stadium, so Du Hai hadn’t gotten a good look at Lin Feng’s face.
Now, in the brightly lit conference room,
Du Hai could finally see Lin Feng’s face clearly.
Lin Feng was far younger than Du Hai had imagined.
Although Du Hai could tell from his voice last night that Lin Feng was young,
now that he saw him in person, Du Hai found himself wondering if Lin Feng was even twenty.
’He looks so young!’
Lin Feng didn’t know Du Hai was pondering his age.
"Mr. Du, you’re here. Please sit."
Lin Feng said with a smile.
"I’m sure you have a lot of questions. As it happens, I’m free today, so feel free to ask anything."
However, Lin Feng never expected that Du Hai’s first question would be so endearingly clueless:
"Mr. Lin, are you of legal age?"
Lin Feng chuckled, at a loss for words, and gave a slight nod. "You can rest easy on that front. I’m a university freshman, so I’m definitely of age."
Du Hai’s face was a mask of astonishment. "You built a company this big as just a freshman?!"
"Mr. Lin, you’re truly incredible!"
Lin Feng hadn’t expected Du Hai’s train of thought to be so peculiar. He smiled and reminded him:
"Aren’t there some other things you’d like to ask?"
That’s when it dawned on Du Hai.
’He hadn’t come here to make small talk with Lin Feng.’
’He was here to ask about the job.’
"Mr. Lin, I was wondering what kind of position and compensation package you intend to offer me?"
Lin Feng had already asked an assistant to prepare a file on the Cyan Mountain Town land parcel and leave it in the conference room.
"Before we talk about your position and salary, take a look at this file first."
Du Hai’s background was in the tourism industry.
So when he saw the file, he quickly realized that Lin Feng was planning to create a tourism development zone.
"Are you planning to develop this into a commercial tourism district?"
Du Hai briefly skimmed the documents, and he got the gist of it.
Lin Feng nodded. "This is a major project for our company. I am currently assembling the core project team."
"If you’re willing, Mr. Du, I’d like you to join this team."
Du Hai was taken aback.
"If I’m not mistaken, this must be a core project for your company!"
Du Hai said, a hint of confusion in his voice.
After all, the documents clearly stated that the purchase of the land in Cyan Mountain Town alone had cost over five hundred million in capital.
A project of this scale was undoubtedly a major undertaking. That was beyond question.
Lin Feng nodded. "That’s right. This will indeed be one of the company’s core projects for a long time to come."
"If you’re willing to join the project, Mr. Du, I’ll hire you for a management position with the corresponding salary and benefits."
Du Hai was even more stunned to hear this.
’A management position with a management-level salary, right off the bat.’
Du Hai could clearly see that Lin Feng was completely sincere.
And now Du Hai only had one question. "Why me, Mr. Lin?"
Lin Feng smiled and looked into Du Hai’s eyes. "Mr. Du, surely you don’t think I find people based purely on my own whims, do you?"
Hearing this, Du Hai was taken aback.
"Before deciding to give you this opportunity, Mr. Du, I actually did some background research on you."
"I’ve seen the management skills and strategic thinking you’ve displayed on past projects. I’m offering you this position because I believe your abilities are a perfect match."
"And that, Mr. Du, is the ’why’ you were looking for."
After hearing Lin Feng’s words, Du Hai was silent for a long time.
’In truth, Lin Feng hadn’t actually investigated Du Hai. He simply had the system.’
’It allowed him to see Du Hai’s potential at a glance.’
’But he couldn’t very well mention the system, of course.’
’So Lin Feng had simply invented a plausible excuse.’
Du Hai didn’t have the slightest suspicion.
’From his perspective, a large company like this would certainly conduct thorough background checks when recruiting members for a core team.’
"So, Mr. Du, what have you decided?"
Lin Feng asked.
Du Hai looked up at Lin Feng. "Mr. Lin, thank you for seeing my potential. I’d be honored to join the team!"
A faint smile appeared on Lin Feng’s face.
’In Lin Feng’s mind, getting Du Hai to join had been a foregone conclusion.’
’After all, no one else could match the offer Lin Feng had made.’
Lin Feng stood up and shook Du Hai’s hand, a smile on his face.
Then, he said something that took Du Hai completely by surprise:
"So, Mr. Du, would you happen to have time to start work immediately?"
Du Hai was completely caught off guard. "Huh?" he blurted out instinctively.
Lin Feng said, "Some of our other team members are already here. Since you’re from the tourism industry, Mr. Du, why don’t we take this opportunity to have a discussion right now!"
Du Hai had been out of work and idle at home for a while now.
So, while he was surprised by Lin Feng’s invitation, he didn’t refuse.
In Lin Feng’s office, Tian Xiaowu and Cao Ming were in a heated discussion.
They were hashing out multiple plans for the commercial district.
They considered it from every possible angle.
Just as their discussion was getting intense, they heard the office door click open.
They looked up to see Lin Feng walk in.
Following Lin Feng was a burly man who stood over six feet tall.
Cao Ming blurted out, "Another newcomer?"
Lin Feng smiled and snapped his fingers. "That’s right, another newcomer. From now on, he’s one of us!"
"Introduce yourselves."
Cao Ming wasn’t one to be shy around strangers; he had a naturally outgoing and carefree personality.
Tian Xiaowu was a bit more reserved.
Nor was Du Hai the bashful type.
After the three briefly introduced themselves, they sat down at the conference table in Lin Feng’s office.
Upon learning that Du Hai was an industry veteran, Cao Ming clapped his hands with a grin. "To each his own specialty! We’ve got a real expert here!"
Just as Lin Feng was getting the files, he heard the pleasant voice of the system.
[DING...]
[Congratulations, Host, for finding a required talent. Mission Progress: 3/5. Please continue your efforts.]
[Mission Reward: A small hint to be delivered at an opportune moment.]
[Additionally, to celebrate the Host recruiting over half the required members, a random reward of five million in team funds has been granted.]
Lin Feng had thought that just getting a hint was a decent reward.
He never expected the system to just hand over five million in funds.
Lin Feng chuckled.
’Looks like this five million is meant to be spent on the team.’
As it happened, Lin Feng turned and noticed that among the three men chatting, two were rather shabbily dressed.
Tian Xiaowu had never had the means to afford better and hadn’t thought much about it, while Du Hai was simply broke from his recent unemployment.
’An idea on how to spend that five million began to form in Lin Feng’s mind.’
...
At that moment,
Huizi came in carrying the relevant paperwork.
As soon as she pushed open the door to Lin Feng’s office, she saw four people sitting around the conference table.
"President Lin, this is the onboarding paperwork and work badge you wanted."
Huizi had brought the work badge and employment contract for Du Hai.
Lin Feng had Huizi take Du Hai to HR to sign the contract.
When Du Hai saw the salary and benefits package in the HR office, his eyes widened in shock.
Lin Feng had promised Du Hai a management-level package, and that’s exactly what he delivered.
He hadn’t cut any corners.
The HR department had already received instructions from Lin Feng.
The salary and benefits were already specified in the contract.
The man before them had been personally recruited by Lin Feng.
Therefore, the HR staff’s attitude was excellent. Seeing Du Hai staring blankly, one of them politely inquired:
"Mr. Du, do you have any objections to the terms?"
Du Hai was simply stunned by the generous compensation.
A package like this was already incredible.
So, upon hearing the HR manager’s voice, Du Hai immediately shook his head.
"I have no objections to this contract whatsoever!"
He signed it immediately, as if afraid the HR department might change its mind.
Huizi assisted Du Hai in completing all the necessary paperwork.
"Congratulations, Mr. Du. Welcome to the company. As of now, you are officially on duty."
Huizi had other matters to attend to.
So after settling Du Hai’s affairs, she offered a polite word and departed.
When Du Hai returned to Lin Feng’s office,
He happened to walk in on the others cheering excitedly.
"What’s going on?"
On his way back to Lin Feng’s office, Du Hai had done his best to compose himself.
But the moment he returned, he was greeted by everyone’s elated expressions.
’Clearly, something important had happened while I was gone getting my paperwork done.’
Since they were both newcomers, Tian Xiaowu felt a bit closer to Du Hai. Seeing his bewildered expression, Tian Xiaowu smiled and explained:
"Brother Du, here’s what happened."
"President Lin decided to hold a team-building event tonight to celebrate everyone joining the team!"
’So it’s a team-building event!’
As the oldest of the four men present,
Du Hai, who had the most professional experience, had naturally been to plenty of team-building events.
He was no stranger to such activities.
"So we’re having a team-building event tonight already? President Lin certainly works fast!"
Du Hai said with a smiling nod.
The reason Tian Xiaowu was so excited was that this was his first time participating in such an event.
Among the people present, Tian Xiaowu had the lowest level of education.
Therefore, the jobs Tian Xiaowu had held in the past were all unskilled labor.
With those kinds of jobs, you were lucky if they didn’t dock your pay or pay you late.
There was certainly no chance of having perks like team-building events.
Cao Ming was excited for a much simpler reason: he just wanted to go out and have fun.
Especially if it was on the company’s dime.
As a seasoned veteran of the workforce, Du Hai had attended his fair share of team-building events.
He had even been tasked with organizing and planning them after his department’s budget was approved.
But he had never, ever imagined a team-building event like this!
So simple, yet so extravagant!
