Chapter 250 - 249: Am I Really Being Kicked Off the Project Team?
The next morning, bright and early, Cao Ming arrived at Lin Feng’s office.
But Lin Feng wasn’t there yet.
So, Cao Ming decided to sit in Lin Feng’s office and wait.
Before long, he was surprised to see a familiar face walk in—Huizi.
"What are you doing here?"
Huizi was a little surprised to find only Cao Ming in the office.
As the assistant who handled some of Lin Feng’s affairs, Huizi had been the one to arrange Cao Ming’s personnel transfer.
So, she was well aware that Cao Ming was now part of the land project team under Lin Feng.
Logically, since the land project team was still in its preparatory phase and not fully staffed,
Cao Ming didn’t need to come into the office.
Cao Ming scratched his head as he watched Huizi place a document on Lin Feng’s desk.
"I have something I want to discuss with President Lin."
Huizi nodded, left the file on Lin Feng’s desk, and turned to leave.
She was well aware that besides their superior-subordinate relationship, Cao Ming and Lin Feng were also roommates.
So, it wasn’t strange at all to see Cao Ming in Lin Feng’s office.
After Huizi left, Cao Ming grew a bit anxious waiting in the office.
He skimmed through the document in his hands once more.
He wanted to find a book on the shelf behind Lin Feng’s desk.
As he walked past the desk, the title of the document Huizi had just delivered caught his eye.
"Aurora District Route Planning Team Materials."
These past two days, Cao Ming had been busy working on the development proposal.
So, words like "route planning" were something he was very sensitive to.
When he saw a document like this on Lin Feng’s desk,
Cao Ming froze.
A million thoughts raced through his mind, finally settling on one:
’Did I take too long? Did Lin Feng get impatient and just find another team?’
’What’s going on... Don’t tell me I’m going to get kicked off this project for being too slow?’
No matter how exhausted he had been these past two days, Cao Ming knew one thing very clearly.
In a way, being transferred to this project team was a chance for him to learn much more.
Even more than what Jiang Chao could learn.
That’s why Cao Ming cherished this opportunity so much; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been such a perfectionist about it.
Now, seeing the documents for another planning team on Lin Feng’s desk,
Cao Ming instantly panicked.
His heart was filled with anxiety.
Just as Cao Ming was staring blankly at the document on the desk, Lin Feng pushed open the office door.
He looked up and saw Cao Ming staring intently at his desk.
"What are you looking at?"
"Did the cleaning lady miss a spot?"
Lin Feng teased with a smile.
But instead, he saw Cao Ming’s face was stiff, looking like he was about to cry.
"President Lin, I don’t want to be kicked off the land project team!"
Cao Ming wailed as he rushed forward.
Before Lin Feng could even figure out what was happening, Cao Ming pulled out his own proposal and crisply explained his planning concepts.
"I know I’m not finished yet, I’ll go back and work on it right now!"
"Even though I’m stuck right now, I’ll work hard!"
Lin Feng stared in confusion at Cao Ming, who looked like he had been provoked and shot up with adrenaline at the same time.
"When did I ever say I was taking you off the land project team?"
Lin Feng’s face was a mask of confusion.
Cao Ming froze for a moment, then grabbed the planning team’s documents from Lin Feng’s desk.
"You put me in charge of the proposal, but then you turn around and find another planning team. Doesn’t that mean you think I’m not doing a good job, that I’m too slow!"
Cao Ming looked at Lin Feng with a resentful expression.
Like a jilted wife.
Lin Feng opened the document.
He glanced at the planning team’s past achievements.
He immediately understood. This was the team Huizi had efficiently found.
He hadn’t expected Cao Ming to stumble upon it and create such a comical misunderstanding.
’Cao Ming really overthinks things!’
With a helpless smile, Lin Feng explained the situation to Cao Ming.
"That’s not what I meant at all. This planning team isn’t for the land project; it’s for the Joy City project from Dingsheng Real Estate, which we acquired earlier."
Cao Ming never imagined that was the case.
He suddenly remembered how embarrassing he had just been.
He gave a couple of dry coughs. "Oh... so that’s how it is!"
Lin Feng stood up, walked over to Cao Ming, and tapped him on the head.
"Don’t worry, I definitely won’t be kicking you off this project. I want you to be my second-in-command."
Hearing this, Cao Ming breathed a sigh of relief.
Now that he had Lin Feng’s assurance, Cao Ming was no longer as nervous as before.
"Let me show you what I’ve done these past two days. I’ve made a start, but now I’m stuck and can’t continue."
Cao Ming brought his proposal over to Lin Feng.
It was clear that Cao Ming had indeed put a lot of heart into it.
The initial sections considered the bigger picture, and the details were well-executed.
Lin Feng could even sense that Cao Ming had approached it from a leader’s perspective.
Unfortunately, because the initial scope was too ambitious, he had only managed to plan a single residential block before getting stuck.
However, from this initial part of the proposal, Lin Feng could already see Cao Ming’s potential.
"Not bad at all. I think you’ve done a great job."
Lin Feng said with a look of praise.
Cao Ming hadn’t expected his unfinished proposal to receive Lin Feng’s praise.
He felt quite pleased with himself.
The reason Lin Feng was letting Cao Ming off so easily was largely because he had now discovered Tian Xiaowu.
With a talented person like Tian Xiaowu around,
he would have more options when it came to planning.
It could be said that the Cyan Mountain Town land development was the project Lin Feng valued most to date.
As a reward given by the System,
Lin Feng had high expectations and was full of hope for the land’s future.
Moreover, Lin Feng believed this land would be worth far more than its face value.
Especially after learning from the System’s prediction that Cyan Mountain Town would become a tourist destination,
Lin Feng placed even greater importance on this piece of land.
After all, the tourism industry was booming.
Once it became a tourist spot and gained fame, a constant stream of capital would flow into the town.
As the owner of such a large plot of land, Lin Feng had to carefully plan the development of the Cyan Mountain Town project.
It was precisely because he valued this development project so much that he was extremely cautious in selecting the developers who would be involved.
A big reason for choosing Cao Ming was his bold and daring personality.
Furthermore, Cao Ming was his roommate, and from the very beginning, Lin Feng had been grooming both Cao Ming and Jiang Chao.
They were destined to become his lieutenants in the future.
As for the other people needed for this project, Lin Feng was still deliberating.
First of all, Lin Feng’s company was an investment firm.
It had no shortage of management talent, but it lacked highly specialized professionals who could handle development work.
While Lin Feng was lost in thought, Cao Ming, buoyed by the praise,
was chattering incessantly in his ear,
going on and on about the ideas he had for the initial plan.
"What do you think? Would it be possible to plan a bathhouse on the eastern side?"
Cao Ming grew more and more excited as he spoke,
full of all sorts of wild ideas.
Lin Feng was starting to feel a bit exasperated.
’I can’t believe a casual compliment, meant to acknowledge his hard work, would result in all this noise!’
"If you have so many ideas, then I suggest you go ahead and finish the rest of the proposal!"
A mischievous smile appeared on Lin Feng’s face.
Cao Ming’s words caught in his throat, and he swallowed them back down.
An awkward yet polite smile appeared on his face.
"Oh, that won’t be necessary. I think this kind of thing should be left to the professionals, don’t you think?"
Lin Feng looked at him with a non-committal smile, making Cao Ming’s hair stand on end.
Finally, he heard Lin Feng speak. "In a little while, I’ll bring in the professionals."
"You guys can discuss these planning issues in detail then."
Cao Ming nodded hastily.
He turned and left without a moment’s hesitation.
Just planning that one small residential block had been stressful enough to make him go bald.
If he had to keep going, Cao Ming was afraid he’d be the first freshman to go bald.
