Chapter 2466 - 2458: Stunning

Feng Jun released the plasma cannon and picked up the electromagnetic gun with astonishing speed, so fast that no one could react.

It wasn’t until after two shots were fired that the young Gauss machine gun shooter reacted. In his busy schedule, he couldn’t help but glance at Feng Jun out of the corner of his eye—this action was very amateurish, but he was originally just ordinary security and hadn’t even had time to serve in the military.

He only glanced once, then shouted in complaint, "What are you doing? Ah... almost got hit by a stinger!"

Feng Jun said nothing and reached for the individual electromagnetic gun again, staring solemnly outside.

The second wave of the Insect Race’s attack came and went quickly, leaving in an instant.

"I took down two bugs, one was a moth, and the other a stinger bee!" the young shooter shouted, his face full of excitement. He was using a Gauss machine gun as suppressive fire on the battlefield, and its lethality was considerable. It wasn’t surprising to kill two Qi Refinement Realm insects.

But he was still excited because it was achieved in one attack. His highest record before was killing just one insect in one attack—maybe injuring two more at best.

In his joy, he glanced at Feng Jun again, unhappily saying, "Changing weapons for no reason could affect everyone’s judgment! Even if you’re young, you should understand obeying orders, right?"

Feng Jun blinked innocently at him, his eyes even carrying a hint of... helplessness?

"Ahem," coughed the gray-haired old man twice, "Xiao Wu, don’t speak out of turn. Was that stinger bee brought down by you?"

"How was it not me? There’s battlefield footage!" Xiao Wu was unsatisfied, "What do you mean, Lao Wang? We can replay it."

"It really wasn’t you who brought it down," a middle-aged man spoke in a deep voice, also using an electromagnetic gun earlier, "It was this little guy who brought it down, and he saved your life."

"Lao Wa, I admire you, but that doesn’t mean you can talk nonsense," Xiao Wu glared angrily at the middle-aged man, "Shall we check the footage now?"

Lao Wa, named Valenkov, was once at the deputy regiment level in the army, but was expelled and jailed for three years due to drinking-related incidents. After such a blemish, it was hard to find work after coming out, so he worked on the border for fifty years to ensure his family wasn’t affected.

However, as a soldier in the reconnaissance unit, his observational skills were stronger than most. He spoke without emotion, "You can’t check recordings during combat. Look later yourself. The little guy hit the stinger bee twice... what you did was a follow-up shot."

Xiao Wu wasn’t one to lose gracefully; he was stunned by the words, then asked, "Let’s talk later about who killed it... But how did he save my life?"

Lao Wa glanced outside, casually answering, "If he hadn’t fired, the stinger might have directly hit you."

It finally dawned on Xiao Wu, who then asked incredulously, "Was the stinger that almost hit me from that stinger bee?"

"Correct," replied Lao Wang this time, "So you really should thank this little guy."

In the fortress they occupied, the shooting slits were extremely narrow, with separate observation ports and shooting ports, reducing the chance of a shooter being injured through one.

However, for a Gauss machine gun to fire in a certain range, the shooting port had to have a pivot point. If a stinger hit the connection of the Gauss machine gun, it would damage the barrel.

What’s a Gauss machine gun but a fully automatic electromagnetic gun; if the barrel deforms, the high-speed projectile propelled by electromagnetic force would instantly burst the barrel. Plus, instant electromagnetic field imbalance would result in far worse outcomes than ordinary gun barrels exploding.

Xiao Wu was momentarily stunned, then called out through his earpiece, "Calling control room, identifier two-bar-three-one-one, what gun killed that stinger bee that just died?"

"Are you bored out of your mind?" came a very impatient voice through the earpiece, "The bugs are still attacking, and you want to check battle results?"

They really disliked such requests, as there were only a few people in the control room, each busy with numerous tasks. And now you want to check achievements?

Nonetheless, grievances aside, they couldn’t refuse. Unclear merit allocation on the battlefield could cause many serious consequences, especially when the request for verification came mid-battle—this usually indicated significant disagreements on the front line.

If such requests were not handled well, it might even lead to internal conflicts in extreme cases—everyone was fighting with their lives on the line, under immense psychological pressure. If it cracked, shooting a comrade wouldn’t be unexpected.

So despite complaining, the control room checked and, after about five minutes, informed Xiao Wu via earpiece, "Three people cross-verified five times—both shots from an electromagnetic gun hit consecutively, with high probability the Gauss machine gun fire was supplementary... If you have any objections, please appeal after the battle."

"No objections," Xiao Wu, though somewhat temperamental, accepted defeat willingly. He didn’t think his judgment better than the control room’s cross-verification. Although he’d certainly review the footage later, it was just to confirm.

He then turned his head to look at Feng Jun, giving him a thumbs-up, "Great shooting skills, I’m impressed... both shots were lethal!"

"Just a fluke," Feng Jun forced a smile, thinking that if he weren’t worried about standing out too much, one shot would have sufficed.

"That’s modesty," Xiao Wu spoke with seriousness, "Both shots hit the vital points, and you call that a fluke?"

The gray-haired Lao Wang glanced at Feng Jun, nodding slightly, "Young but humble... The young man has potential."

The only female warrior in the team spoke up, a slightly chubby sister, "How did you practice your shooting skills?"

Feng Jun thought for a moment, then answered solemnly, "If I say it’s luck, you probably won’t believe it... so let’s just call it intuition."

"Intuition?" The slightly chubby sister didn’t doubt it, and after a moment of pause, she expressed, "I really admire your combat talent."

"His talent is not just limited to that," Valenkov also chimed in, "Aren’t you curious why he doesn’t use the plasma gun?"

"That’s right," the slightly chubby sister realized, looking at Feng Jun and asking, "Why don’t you use the plasma gun?"

Feng Jun was observing outside, and after a long silence, he finally answered, "This... seems like a normal choice, right?"

The slightly chubby sister saw that he didn’t answer, so she looked towards Valenkov, "Lao Wa, why doesn’t he use the plasma gun?"

Valenkov was looking outside, meanwhile lighting a cigarette, taking small puffs, and after a long while, he exhaled three words, "Ask Lao Wang."

Lao Wang was also pondering this question, and seeing the slightly chubby sister looking his way, he smiled wryly and answered, "It’s like me using the electromagnetic gun the first time, and the Gauss Machine Gun the second time... Lao Wa, is that what you mean?"

"Hmm," Lao Wa snorted lightly from his nose, focused on smoking without turning his head.

The slightly chubby sister finally understood, and so she looked at Feng Jun, "Are you worried the plasma gun will expose your firepower?"

"The plasma gun is originally meant for killing Colonel Level bugs," Feng Jun replied expressionlessly, "The firepower is too intense, easily leading to retaliation. I can’t just focus on my own thrill, affecting my comrades... moreover, using a plasma gun to kill Lieutenant Level bugs is not cost-effective."

He didn’t mention that if Xiao Wu weren’t at risk of being harmed by that Stinger Bee, he wouldn’t have picked up the electromagnetic gun.

No matter what, he doesn’t want his comrades to get hurt, it’s a deep-rooted belief—even if it’s a temporary team-up.

"Oh, you know how to save for the sister?" A voice sounded, it was the boss’s mother... the boss’s mother came over.

The big sister had heard from others that the slightly chubby youth had killed a bug, so she specially came over, "You’ve already killed a bug, the Crystal Racing Car Model... sister will gift it to you."

"Sis, don’t joke, Lieutenant Level doesn’t count," Feng Jun replied nonchalantly, "At least it has to be Colonel Level."

Lieutenant Level bugs really aren’t worth even the most basic hover car, and the reason they are rated Lieutenant Level is not because they are that hard to kill—with no soldiers under them—but because their destructive power reaches Lieutenant Level.

If civilians kill three Lieutenant Level bugs, they can roughly afford a hover car, while soldiers would need to kill five to barely afford one.

Of course, soldiers killing bugs have other rewards and calculation methods, this is just a rough analogy.

However, Colonel Level bugs are different, civilians killing one could at least afford ten hover cars.

"I wasn’t talking about Colonel Level," the big sister really took a liking to the little chubby kid, "At your age, killing a Lieutenant Level is enough for sister to reward you, go home and tell your parents..."

"No, hold it," Feng Jun turned away from looking outside, waving his hand vehemently at her, "I sneaked out, really can’t let my parents know... if you keep talking like this, I’ll have to leave."

The big sister paused, then tentatively asked, "So, how do we handle the extermination of this bug?"

"You handle it," Feng Jun waved his hand, speaking blandly, "I didn’t let your trust down, didn’t waste ammunition... that’s satisfaction enough for me."

The grey-haired Lao Wang spoke up, "Young man, don’t joke. If this counts as wasting ammunition, what about us? How about this... with such good combat intuition, it’s a shame not to attend a military academy. How about securing you a spot at a Federal Combat Academy?"

The combat academy is a relatively basic type of military academy, but there are only a few Federal Combat Academies, with the rest being constellation or galaxy level, so this offer is quite significant.

In reality, Lao Wang likely doesn’t have this capability; it might be the boss’s wife or Lao Wa who has such connections.

Feng Jun decisively waved his hand, "Thanks, but I’ve said... I don’t want my parents to know about this."

The big sister nodded, "I understand your feelings... not wanting your parents to worry, but this Stinger Bee you helped kill, how should we settle with you?"

Just then, Lao Wa chimed in somberly, "Discuss later, the bug attack is coming again!"

Everyone turned to look outside upon hearing this, grabbing the guns beside them.
