Chapter 2475 - 2467: Infiltration
The lady boss gave a light snort and said crisply, "What’s wrong with Pioneer Bank? Don’t listen to all that nonsense."
But the younger brother-in-law took it seriously. "Sister-in-law, you’ve got good connections with the bank. Go ask around, yeah?"
"No need." The lady boss drooped her eyelids and spoke with a blank face. "You remember this: knowing too much isn’t a good thing."
Her younger brother-in-law was stubborn. His eyes went wide. "So you’re saying there really is a problem?"
"Shut up!" The lady boss’s eyes snapped open and she barked, "I already said you’re not allowed to talk about this anymore. Do you not understand me?"
When facing the chubby kid Feng Jun was pretending to be, she had been quite kind and friendly, but when it came to real decisions, she was absolutely a strongwoman of the business world.
The younger brother-in-law shrank his neck in fright and didn’t dare say another word.
That night, Feng Jun wandered around the military headquarters for half the night again. He finally found what seemed like a fairly good opportunity, but by the time he reacted, the chance had already slipped away.
The next night, he finally caught an opening and slipped into the military headquarters. The external defenses were extremely tight, but once he got inside, the surveillance dropped off a lot. Only at very important spots would there be dense monitoring equipment.
Under the Big Boss’s guidance, Feng Jun skirted around all kinds of surveillance and, after some thrills but no real danger, infiltrated to the vicinity of the women soldiers’ dorms.
The women’s dorm area also had cameras, but really not that many. Feng Jun hid in a dark corner, waiting for Salina to come back.
According to his observations, Salina would be the last to leave the cafeteria every night, after all the female soldiers finished their late-night snack, then go back to the dorm to nap for half an hour before heading out somewhere else.
This schedule was a bit bizarre, but there were quite a few people in the headquarters who kept hours like this, most of them non-combat personnel, who could sleep soundly during the day instead.
But tonight, Salina didn’t return to the dorm. After leaving the cafeteria, she actually went to the command center. No one knew what she was going to do.
The Big Boss dared to use Divine Sense inside the headquarters, but the command center building had way too many layers of protection. It didn’t dare lock onto her recklessly and could only sense her vaguely from afar.
Feng Jun was helpless and could only wait in silence. Who knew that one wait would stretch to over an hour. "Weird. Doesn’t she make the rounds of the Guard Unit, the sentry posts, and the staff office every day? Is she planning to stand people up tonight?"
Salina had a pretty face, and the army was your typical case of more men than women; even in the headquarters it was the same. Out of more than six thousand people, the number of women didn’t even reach six hundred. She held the third-highest rank among the women, and her inspections produced a very good effect.
"Don’t rush it," the Big Boss remained patient. "You’ve already gotten in anyway. Coming again tomorrow will be easy."
After another hour or so, Salina finally returned, but she only touched up her makeup; it looked like she was about to head out again.
"Make her sleep, quick," Feng Jun hurriedly linked up with the Big Boss using his mind.
No one knew what exactly the Big Boss did, but the next moment, Salina started yawning nonstop. She even raised a hand to pinch her own thigh, yet in the end she still toppled face-first onto her bed.
Feng Jun’s figure flickered and he appeared under Salina’s window—there were no cameras at this spot; otherwise it would’ve been way too unfriendly to the female soldiers.
He used his will to open her window, then flattened his body and slipped through the iron bars into the room.
Feng Jun came in like this mainly to get her electronic military ID tag, as well as her fingerprints and the like. The Big Boss had guaranteed it could obtain her iris data without her noticing.
Feng Jun stayed in Salina’s room for roughly ten minutes. Once everything was in the bag, he transformed into Selena, and even made a special trip back to Earth to custom-order a set of Federation military uniform and insignia.
The custom work was done in Yiwu. He avoided everyone’s surveillance, and people in Yiwu couldn’t care less whether the customer was just doing cosplay—as long as you paid, everything was negotiable.
Getting the uniform and insignia made took Feng Jun three days, but that didn’t matter; time didn’t flow here in the Insect World.
In the guise of Salina, Feng Jun went to her office, opened her personal terminal, and connected to the headquarters network.
Her terminal login credentials were a combination of fingerprint, iris, and password. Feng Jun could simulate the fingerprint and iris, and as for the password, the Big Boss said it had known that long ago.
Very easily, Feng Jun logged onto the military network. With a casual look-around, he really did find quite a bit of good stuff.
Salina’s clearance level wasn’t the highest, but definitely not low either. She was only a lieutenant colonel, but think about it: she was the third-highest ranking woman in the headquarters, so plenty of male full colonels didn’t have clearance as high as hers.
What interested Feng Jun most was that, as a member of the logistics department, she had the authority to look up all sorts of maintenance data and maintenance principles for military equipment. For him, this was the fastest way to master the army’s hardware.
Before, he’d only had access to the user manual. Now he not only knew how to repair it, he also understood why it was used this way and what the designers had in mind at the beginning.
These materials were extremely valuable. Within the military, they might not count as top-secret, so Salina was allowed to see them, but even the military itself was very clear that this stuff absolutely could not fall into outsiders’ hands.
Feng Jun flipped through the materials and tried to bundle them up for download. A window immediately popped up on the terminal interface, "Lieutenant Colonel Salina, please confirm: do you wish to download the relevant contents?"
"Download, it’s fine," the Big Boss said carelessly. "They’re just double-checking. There won’t be any alarms. The ones that trigger alarms all need a key."
"I think it’s better to wait," Feng Jun shook his head. "Even if it won’t trigger alarms, I’m planning to download a lot of stuff. I still have to think about how to copy it out after it’s downloaded."
"What’s there to think about? Just take the whole terminal with you after it’s downloaded," the Big Boss said as if it were obvious. "Salina’s not a good person anyway, she’s literally a spy... who else should be taking the blame?"
"It’s not what you think," Feng Jun shook his head. "Forget it, it’s already been ten minutes or so, time to leave."
If he wanted to come back a second time, he couldn’t drag it out too long this time. If something slipped, it would be a real mess.
On the way back, Feng Jun ran into another close call. The Big Boss warned him that if he followed the normal route back to the dorm, then at the corner two hundred meters ahead, he’d bump into one of Salina’s admirers.
Feng Jun had no choice but to change directions—cross-dressing was miserable enough, he really didn’t want to deal with a suitor on top of that. And if the guy pestered "her" a bit too long, once Salina woke up and heard the gossip, she was bound to get suspicious.
Following the steps back to Salina’s room, Feng Jun’s figure flickered and he disappeared.
About ten minutes later, Salina woke up. "Huh, why did I suddenly fall asleep this time? No way, I have to head out, a journey of a hundred miles is only half done at ninety!"
She truly had no idea that while she was napping, someone had impersonated her, gone into her office, and checked some data. And in the process, more than one person had noticed "her" movements.
However, no one would主动 bring it up with Salina. As long as she hadn’t violated any rules, who was going to ask her, "What were you doing in your office just now?"
At the end of the day, the main reason was that there were no cameras in the women’s dorm, which gave Feng Jun an opening. But the same trick wasn’t suitable for use on men. It wasn’t that Feng Jun had a fetish for cross-dressing; it was simply that—there are cameras in the men’s dorms!
The night passed just like that. The next day, the Insect Race was still harassing Xiajing. Bored out of his mind, Feng Jun decided to make a trip to Zuo Jing to see how things were going there—since he’d decided to open up another market, he needed to do some surface-level work here to throw people off the scent.
About ten minutes after he powered on his handheld radio, a call came in from He Runxian, sounding a bit weak, "Sir, are you there?"
You can monitor my radio, and you’re asking if I’m there? Feng Jun snorted coldly. "I’m busy with something else. I’ll contact you later."
Then he switched off the radio and went to kill half a day at White Pebble Beach before coming back and turning it on again.
This time, only two minutes passed before He Runxian called again, "Sir, are you done?"
"What’s with the rush?" Feng Jun said impatiently. "If you’ve got something, say it."
"Here’s the thing," He Runxian lightly cleared his throat. "Our mining equipment currently has a discount policy. The discounts are really substantial. I think this is a good opportunity... If you still have any needs, maybe we can meet and talk?"
This was obviously a setup targeting Feng Jun, but he couldn’t really bring himself to hate Lao He—this guy’s speech was so dry, without the slightest rise or fall in tone; clearly he was being forced to read from a script.
So he gave a light hum. "Mm, I don’t have that kind of demand for now. How about you help me apply to extend the discount?"
"An extension... I’m afraid that won’t be easy," He Runxian was struggling inside, but he still had to follow the military’s script. "You putting it like this puts me in a bit of a spot."
"If it’s hard, then forget it," Feng Jun replied calmly. "You’re not the only one producing mining equipment. We’ll talk about it later... who knows, I might find a better option."
Minister Shen was listening right next to him. Hearing this, he immediately wrote a line and handed it to He Runxian.
Director He glanced at it, froze for a moment, then spoke up, still in that script-reading tone, "But right now, we’re a bit short on energy stones. Could you send over some energy stones? We’re willing to buy at a high price."
"You think this is about the price?" Feng Jun was half exasperated, half amused. "I just find it strange—how many energy stones have I given you from start to finish? All that still isn’t enough?"
"But we can’t keep them," He Runxian was still reading the script, but there was finally some real emotion in there—at least that gritted-teeth hatred definitely wasn’t an act. "Those bastards in the military forcibly requisitioned a whole bunch!"
"Is that so?" Feng Jun almost wanted to laugh. "So if I give you more energy stones, can you guarantee the military won’t requisition them?"
He Runxian ground his teeth and shot back, "The military... they have to at least pretend they have some shame, right?"
