Chapter 2477 - 2469: What a Rip-off
The Federation military was well-prepared; the enormous warehouse had only six concealed surveillance cameras installed.
It wasn’t that they didn’t want to install more, but too many would easily expose them. These six points were excellently chosen, with superb observation angles.
Feng Jun unhesitatingly destroyed all the cameras before anyone could receive the information, sweeping the warehouse clean of warships and supporting equipment in one swift move and disappearing.
When the fleet in outer space arrived, they were quite agitated—although they had received the news that the surveillance was destroyed, the warehouse doors hadn’t even been opened.
The fleet dispatched a team of mechas to open the warehouse doors, and everyone became even more collapsed: Where did the warships go?
There were traces of plasma cannon attacks on the warehouse walls, indicating that the previous surveillance was accurate, but... nobody knew what happened inside the warehouse after the cameras were destroyed.
In fact, the appearance and disappearance of the two mechas also raised some questions, but as important combat units in space warfare, their agile mobility and blinking abilities made it difficult for ordinary cameras to capture them at close range.
In short, the biggest dilemma facing the fleet now is: even though the warehouse doors were never opened, how could an entire space fleet disappear? That was enough military equipment to arm a standard beta-level brigade.
"Damn it, this must be the work of Pioneer Bank!"
"You’re in the army, yet you dare to curse Pioneer Bank. I really admire you, but is this warehouse really owned by Pioneer Bank?"
This satellite had many warehouses, jointly managed by the Dumbbell Galaxy Executive Mansion and the military, essentially serving as a strategic materials reserve point. But to obfuscate, many warehouses were rented out except those with essential supplies.
No matter how you calculate, the warehouse ownership belonged to the government... or the military.
"We must find out what happened," was the unanimous consensus.
However, just as they were about to report to their superiors, they received a message stating, "The other side has already agreed to extract military materials. Be vigilant and do not let them escape."
Upon receiving this notification, the fleet was fuming—couldn’t you have informed us earlier?
In fact, communication delays are unavoidable, but since the other side received the information first, there’s clearly some black technology at play that nobody knew about, so the fleet could only report honestly.
After confirming the information, the military from the Dumbbell Star System immediately filed a complaint against Minister Shen.
Minister Shen was quite pleased, thinking the other side had fallen into his trap and was waiting for the upper management to commend him. He was utterly stunned by the news, taking a while to refute it, "The people have already gone. It’s the incompetence of the Dumbbell Star System crew that didn’t capture anyone. How can this be blamed on me?"
"The plan was yours," the superior pointed out coldly, "The brother troops only cooperated with your actions. We don’t judge events based on success or failure, but you should at least have considered what capabilities the human forces might possess."
"How could I have imagined they could teleport within the planet?" Minister Shen was anxious, "Even with imagination, I wouldn’t have thought of that, would I?"
"Don’t try to shirk responsibility," the superior huffed, responding with Minister Shen’s forceful tone, "If you can’t foresee this possibility, why make random suggestions? Who said relying on these weapons would surely expose the other side?"
As he became aggressive, Minister Shen conceded, expressing frustration, "Such things beyond normal expectations, it’s normal I didn’t foresee, right? This plan was approved by you."
"Are you trying to drag me down with you?" The superior was furious, "Approval was a show of support, not an invitation to shift blame to me. You’d better consider how to recover the loss of these military materials!"
After pausing, he angrily added, "Now the other side is unfriendly towards us too, and that’s all your responsibility!"
After hanging up the communication, Minister Shen was left in a daze. After a while, he turned to He Runxian, sneering, "Enjoying the show?"
"It’s not bad," He Runxian, already cross with him, wasn’t afraid. Hesheng, involved in military orders, wasn’t under his control anyway. He coldly retorted, "Weren’t you claiming to be flawless? So confident!"
"Thought my mishaps were so entertaining?" Minister Shen’s face contorted, "I’m officially notifying you that because you’re suspected of concealing information and leaking it, Hesheng must bear the military’s loss this time!"
"Are you out of your mind?" He Runxian cursed, "You mess up military operations and blame civilians... Have some decency, will you? If you dare do this, just wait for Hesheng to expose the truth!"
Minister Shen’s mishandled move inevitably affected his political career, but more importantly, he was accountable for the missing brigade’s equipment. If he had to pay, his entire lifetime salary wouldn’t cover it.
So now he had to desperately find someone to bite, hoping extorting Hesheng could potentially prolong his political life—just not as smoothly as before.
This lifeline he had to grab, "You claim you didn’t know the other side could make planetary transitions?"
No wonder he was so frenzied, as he genuinely suspected Hesheng intentionally watched his downfall.
"Save it. I dare not speculate, let alone listen," He Runxian derisively laughed, "We never had the courage to track their transport methods. This is clearly an attempt to falsely accuse me, but I’ll warn you of something..."
He hardened his face and declared sternly, "Because of you, Hesheng will no longer receive energy stones, medicines, or food support. This matter... isn’t something you can simply end!"
The words struck a pale Minister Shen again, whose higher status during wartime allowed him to vehemently oppress He Runxian. But if Hesheng really retaliated, he might not withstand it.
So he could only huff coldly, "Are you threatening me? Believe it or not, I could requisition all your energy stones right now?"
"I really don’t," He Runxian shook his head, carelessly replying, "Feel free to try."
This issue extended beyond just Hesheng; Zuo Jing City was also waiting to extract more energy blocks from Hesheng, not even requiring He Runxian to request, as they’d reject the requisition directly.
"Hmph," Minister Shen stormed off, "I can still cancel your military orders... Guard him well!"
Before the upper-level punishment arrived, his power remained, but how long it would last was anyone’s guess.
He Runxian couldn’t be bothered, directly using the internal call, "Monitor public opinion, notify me if anyone slanders Hesheng immediately. If I’m unreachable, contact Boss Hui Qing!"
The army personnel watched coldly; they only monitored Director He’s external communications and wouldn’t interfere with internal calls—being such a large company, operations alone involved much, and without detention, they couldn’t forcibly intervene.
Feng Jun had already tricked Minister Shen and was disinclined to pay further attention, heading to Xiajing City that afternoon.
The battle there continued, and the metal acquisition company kept converting energy blocks. Ninth Brother added more equipment, speeding up conversion, and barring unexpected events, everything would be converted today.
Hoping this cooperation with both companies wouldn’t end so quickly, Feng Jun found himself sighing with such sentiments.
That night, it rained again in Xiajing, the downpour considerable; just past midnight, the Big Boss remarked, "Salina has returned to her room... quite early, should we make her dizzy?"
"Let her doze a bit," Feng Jun responded deeply, confirming she was asleep before quietly appearing in Salina’s room.
Following similar operations to the previous day, he donned female attire and adeptly entered Salina’s office, accessing her personal terminal to select the materials he wanted to download.
Unfortunately, there was too much data to download, and just after pressing confirm, a dialog box popped up, "Insufficient terminal storage, please select priority download projects."
Feng Jun truly wondered if this fussing might attract military attention, but apparently, Salina’s specialty was well-suited, and no abnormalities occurred.
In fact, his activities did attract some attention. After about three minutes of downloading, a communication call came through, "Commander Salina, I noticed you’re bulk downloading equipment maintenance data."
Salina was quite concerned about her image and wasn’t condescending, but this time Feng Jun simply grunted, "Yes."
He didn’t know how to answer, but he thought it was within her normal privileges. Thus, why say more?
Sure enough, his response caused a pause on the caller’s end. However, shortly after, the curious young sergeant asked again, "Why during midnight?"
Salina again expressed dissatisfaction with a grunt, but finally explained once, "I rest during the day."
Maybe feeling the long night was dull, the sergeant curiously asked again, "I remember you didn’t much care for these things before."
"Captain, focus on your work," Salina finally replied differently and then stood, "I’m logging off to download, so please don’t interrupt my work."
The captain finally fell silent, and Feng Jun secretly exhaled in relief; cross-dressing in the army was a hassle indeed.
Subsequently, a sergeant noticed Salina returned to her dormitory and... only came out more than three hours later.
Then she went to the office again, prompting the captain to pester her, "Commander Salina, the download is complete."
