24 – Dragon Rider (9)
‘It's huge.' ’
It wasn't even like this when I was face-to-face with him.
A slightly more than 5 inches tall reconstruction required a backward bend to look at Ben. I suddenly remembered when I used to look up like this while chasing after my father when I was a child.
‘Why is your face so scary? ’
Both big and fluffy eyes were overwhelming just by looking at me.
Not just the eyes, but the nose, mouth and ears, all the organs were enormous.
Lips were especially large and thick enough to feel like an exaggerated cartoon character.
“Eugene, shall we get out of the airport? ”
Reconstruction turned to Eugene and asked.
Ben and his hand shake off a sluggish grip to gather it.
That's when Ben's other hand comes up and covers the back of the reconstruction.
“Very, thank you, Haejeon, sir. ”
“ · · · · · ·?! ”
Both ears of the reconstruction crack open.
This thick, clumsy voice was not misheard.
Obviously, Ben was speaking Korean.
“So, directly, we, meet, come out, thank you, very, very much, thank you, Harebuild, sir. ”
Ben's words are cut off slowly and his accent is severely awkward.
A bright smile appeared on the face of the reconstruction.
The meaning is not only the reason, but also the reason of the heart. My momentary vigilance disappears like snow.
“I see you've been practicing your Korean greeting. ”
“I taught you. ”
Aiden Cooper, the editor standing next to you, steps forward. This time, his Korean pronunciation was quite proficient and he was once again surprised.
“I took Korean language classes in college. If you don't use it, it will soon be forgotten, so I still come together once a month to study. ”
Aiden adds with a smile.
Although his accent and pronunciation were unnatural, he was definitely proficient in Korean.
I was suddenly curious about the story of this editor, who must be a Korean-American.
“We read the email that the teacher wanted to meet, and we stared at each other dazed for a while. Hey, van. I heard Incheon Airport facilities are really nice. The teacher wants to feed us at the airport and send us straight back to the States. ”
Looking at Ben, Aiden reenacts the conversation as he shuffles his hands.
Reconstruction, Eugene, and Tae-won laughed in succession.
Ben, who was standing dumbfounded, soon understood the meaning and smiled.
“Thank you very much, sir. ”
“No, I'm so happy for you and Aiden. That huge, detailed comment to The Bress is going to be my lifelong custody. ”
“Nurture? What do you mean, nurture? ”
“Oh, so my foundation, power, yes. It's going to be a power. ”
“I understand. Thank you. Nutrient · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·. ”
It was Aiden who took out a pen on the spot and took a note.
Ben and Aiden didn't have much baggage.
Because it was a short journey of 3 days 2 nights, they were each carrying a small bag. So I postponed the hotel check-in and ended up having dinner first.
“That's how you wanted Korean food? ”
“Because of me, Ben also loves Korean food. I starved a few days before I left because I needed to eat as much as I could locally. ”
There were staff and vans waiting for you in the parking lot.
Tae-won prepared a special car for today. Five people boarded, including a large Ben, but there were plenty of seats.
“Then I'll be on my way. ”
The destination was a limited time specialty store near Myeong-dong, reserved by Tae-won. Ben and Aiden's hotel is located near Myeong-dong.
Throughout the car, Ben talks and talks with a smile on his face.
Reconstruction liked his humorous and flabby nature. It wasn't hard because of my lack of conversational skills, but I was making the best of it.
Unlike the rowdy Ben, Aiden's side is quiet.
He occasionally gazed at people, smiling quietly, and was mostly focused on the landscape outside the window.
The only person who recognized the longing full of his eyes was the reconstruction.
* * *
“It's good, it's really good. Do Koreans eat this every day? ”
“That's not true. These cold vegetables, steamed fish, and ribs are high-end dishes for Koreans as well. It's a special day, and it's generally a burden to eat. ”
Reconstruction kindly explained and pushed the bowl.
Aiden immediately translated his words for Ben. Ben nods and pushes the grilled food into his mouth.
A limited-edition course that began with pumpkin leather was soon approaching later.
Ben and Aiden really enjoyed their meal. All the reconstructions I saw were full.
“You're about to get some side dishes and some rice cooker. ”
“Is it coming back? I'll pass it on to Ben. ”
I was joking. Aiden whispered something in Ben's ear. Ben nods and Aiden looks back at the reconstruction.
“Now I want to tell you a business story, sir. ”
“Oh, yes. ”
Reconstruction straightens the lower back and improves posture.
He also assumed that it was time to get to the point.
“This is exactly what I've been telling you over email and phone. We really want to launch The Bress in the U.S. ”
Aiden's voice is full of strength.
His smile disappears and he continues to speak with a solemn expression.
“I first read it in The Bress English manuscript. I have a friend in L.A. My friend emailed me because he knew I was the editor and I was looking for a good genre novel. ”
It was Aiden who pulled out the tablet PC from the bag and showed me the mail in person.
“I was very busy at the time, and I had a cold, and I was in a bad mood. The company applied for sick leave, and we decided to take two days off. The next day, I came to work sick. because I read The Bress. ”
Aiden pulled out the manuscript "The Bress."
His expression was filled with conviction, shaking the manuscript against the people on the left, including reconstruction.
“That day, I learned that The Bress writer is Korean. I went to L.A., I went online to get your information. I was good at Korean, so I went fast. If this business goes well, Ben should sit down with me again at the salary negotiation table. ”
Once again, the surrounding area became a sea of laughter.
Ben, who was sitting alone, smiled as Eugene translated for him.
Aiden spoke.
“We still know that the Korean market paragraphs and genres are clearly bounded. So you're amazing. In the name of Harebuilding and Poongcheon oil, both markets were incredibly successful. There was a sea, a mustard bath, I read it all. Dr. Powers, copy that. ”
“Thank you.”
“Teacher, we thank you for coming to Korea. But that's not it. It's a great novel, and we really want to publish it. Of course this is how business should be done. But the other publishers who don't do it are big and stupid. Then why. ”
Suddenly, Aiden turns to Ben and shuts up.
I knew I wanted to say something more, but it seemed like I cared for words.
Instead of Aiden, Ben takes over the barrel and says,
When I heard that, Eugene started translating.
“He said he would never let me down. I want to scare American readers with this inspiring, relentless epic novel that has no way of praising them in any way. ”
Ben's feverish voice continues in a string.
“Genre novels in the United States are increasingly becoming more and more popular. From classic styles of wizards and princesses, to vampires and paranormal fantasies of the superpowers, all these stories satisfy your readers' appetites. ”
Reconstruction is silently nodding, thinking about it.
Aiden breaks the silence again and looks at the horse.
“Fantasy genres don't thrive in the American market. The Breeze will be the best seller for a long, long time. Leave it to me, sir. I'm sorry. You want me to do that? Leave it to me."
The reconstruction of the laughing expression was actually already decided.
It's only been two hours since I met Ben and Aiden, but my determination is stronger.
If The Bress were to land on the American market, it would be an open house.
“Ah, sir. And look at this. ”
Aiden puts the tablet PC on the table and floats one of the document files on the screen. He explained by tapping his finger on the plaintiff's screen written in English.
“This is The Breeze Fan Fiction. ”
“Fan fiction? ”
“The readers of L.A. have created a new story with The Bress. The protagonist Edward joins forces with the dragons to stop the Empire army. Dragons fall to hell with all their might. Edward saves the princess, but he weeps because he loses the dragon. This is the end of Dr. The Bress. I write a lot of fan fiction because my readers are so sad. ”
The reconstruction opened its eyes and examined the manuscript in detail.
It was definitely a fan fiction featuring Edward and the Dragon, the heroes of 'The Bress’. The story begins with a reunion with Edward after a dragon who thought he was dead.
“I don't want the readers to end up like The Bress. I don't think dragons are dead, either. I believe he must be alive. There are so many readers who like The Bress. ”
“Hahaha · · · · · · · Yes. ”
“I'm sorry if you haven't signed with us, but you're welcome to use more. I hope as a reader that you will continue to write The Breeze Part 2 and Part 3. ”
As Aiden himself pointed out, this might even be part of the job of buying pleasure.
Keeping those parts in mind did not eliminate the feeling of rejoicing in reconstruction.
“I'd love a dragon rider when the book is published. ”
“· · · · · · · Yes? ”
Reconstruction is dazed, not smiling.
Aiden shrugs as if to ask why.
“The Brest Act One, Dragon Rider, I think we should go like this. I noticed on Twitter that the dragon rider was originally the title. Ben and I liked the title dragon rider, and we wondered why we changed it. ”
“Are you saying that the Dragon Rider is a better title than Bress? ”
“The Breeze is fine, but I personally like being a dragon rider. Dragon rider. Definitely communicating meaning. ”
Reconstruction senses a stabbing in the lower abdomen, as you did on a Viking.
It was such a nice thing to be praised for the title. I was able to help with the lie a little and shed some emotional tears.
“Mr. Kwon, did you hear? ”
The reconstruction gladly asked, looking at the source next to Eugene.
Tae-won tilts his head and smiles bitterly.
He and Somi were the ones who opposed the title 'Dragon Rider’ at the time.
“I got the Stone Cauldron. ”
The staff placed the potted rice and plate on the table one by one.
Meanwhile, the reconstruction exchanged gazes, looking at Tae Won and Eugene in turn. They were grumbling as they understood the meaning with their eyes.
“Enjoy your meal and move to a quiet place. ”
The reconstruction opens its mouth as you lift the spoon.
“Did you bring the contract? ”
“Teacher · · · · · · · · · · ·? ”
Aiden smiles at you.
Soon after, Eugene translated for him, and Ben stood up on his feet. When I saw him cheering like a boy, I had to smile again.
* * *
“Perhaps if author Ha were not Asian, he would have made contact with other publishers. You wanted to talk about it.
Sending Ben and Aiden back to the parking lot.
Reconstruction was listening to Eugene's questionable answer that he could not solve in his place.
“Maybe I'm just crossing the line, but I think I am. It's a landscape that underestimates Orientals. Is the American market confident that a good writer can be anywhere in the country? In such a large market, the percentage of translations is only three to four percent. Is it worth it? ”
“Hmm · · · · · · · Yes. ”
“There's nothing too bad about going to Korea and asking for a contract. It doesn't have to be. The company is big. Hardly as thorough an investigation into Mr. Ha as the Open House would be. ”
Reconstruction nodded in acceptance.
Walking the road has become famous enough for readers to recognize and run, but it is in Korea all the way.
How many people know themselves in America?
Even if I read a published book, how many Americans will still remember the three letters of the name Haejeong?
When I thought about it, I felt more appreciated by the open house.
Eugene continued to speak in a sighed voice.
“Ben and Aiden and I have a personal relationship. As you can see, one is black and the other is Korean. I grew up suffering from skin color. ”
“I see.”
“Ben has hated black jokes since childhood. The reason the singer Stevie Wonder can't read is not because he's blind, but because he's black. like this.”
“What a cheesy pun. ”
“This is what they used to do in boarding schools. I overheard a white roommate talking to another friend. I bought a ring for my girlfriend, and I'm worried Ben might steal it. So another friend told me. Black people are far from books, so it's safe to hide them in books. And he smiled, grabbing the boat. ”
Reconstruction, of course, was not smiling at all.
“I can't believe you thought about putting yourself in the publishing industry as Billy. And now that he's done business, he thinks he's a teacher. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to run against evil until today. ”
“Ironic.”
“It may not look like much, but Ben and Aiden really like each other. Ben, born in Dallas Slum, and Aiden, who was adopted to the United States before he was three, surprisingly have a lot in common. This is also the story that you two told me. ”
At the end of the road, the parking lot appeared before my eyes.
After stopping a little, Eugene smiled and added.
“Maybe Aiden wants to publish his book to the U.S. market for more reasons. ”
“I think I understand what you're trying to say. ”
Glug glug!
Eugene's phone rang in his purse.
Her eyes were frozen like rabbits, whether she took out her phone or her understanding.
It was a phone call from someone I didn't expect.
