Black Iron’s Glory

Chapter 13: Old Monk's Grocery Store

Chapter 12 Old Monk's Grocery Store

The Old Street is said to be one of the oldest streets in White Deer Town, where people initially gathered for white deer opened a road to Lake Beringa and built the lake crossing pier. Subsequently, people built houses and opened shops on either side of the road, which became the first street in town.

Time has passed and now Bai Lu Town is no longer that small village a thousand years ago. The expansion of the town has caused the town center to constantly move eastward, while the area of the old street is now a mixed fish dragon, insecure poor dock area...

This place has never crossed, and it seems to me that the former owner of this body, Little Claude, came twice, once to fish by the lake, along the shore of the lake to the common docks in the slums. Once again, the black horse named Bocker, who rode the old Benz of the post office, was a little shocked to run to the old street until there was no way to get to the pier before he lived, scared Alexon half to death on the back of the horse, and the three Claudes behind him ran tired...

Both times, however, there was no rush, nothing happened, and I had no impression of the area. It's just that the parents warned the kids not to go here because it's a dangerous area in White Deer Town.

Doesn't look like there's any danger here? Claude thought to himself, looking at the dilapidated houses and built shacks on both sides of the street and the occasional rush of pedestrians on the road.

“Looks calm...” Around Ericsson seemed to know what Claude was thinking.

Claude nodded: “My father says it's not safe here, so let's not come here, but I don't see any difference between here and the rest of the city...”

Erickson said very seriously: "Your father is right, this is indeed the most chaotic and insecure part of White Deer Town. Don't look at the peace now, it's because it's noon, it's daylight. If you're here at night, you know why. ”

“Oh...” Bok Al laughed: "Ike, you forgot to mention that this is the most lively place in White Deer Town at night. In the evening, the streets are full of people, mostly women. This is also where the sailors like to come at night...”

Claude understood, and he didn't want to go on about it: "So this is where the old Monk grocery store is? ”

“No, it's still up ahead, and this street is almost over there, right next to the pier, and you see, that two storeys of limestone is Old Monk's Grocery.” Erickson answered with his finger to the front.

The two floors of grey stone are actually five connected townhouses, but the first floor is all storefront.

Claude didn't see the old Monk grocery store sign, he saw a brand new wooden sign that said old Monk fishing gear and onboard supplies.

The three to the far left of the five storefronts are open, with a roll of hemp rope, a bundle of wind canvas and a round barrel of different sizes. The two storefronts on the far right look obviously dilapidated, with scaffolding on the outside, which is decorative and looks like they're meant to be the same style as the three storefronts next to them.

“Those two old storefronts are old Monk's grocery store.” The three beside them are also their homes, "Erickson said to Claude," although they used to rent out small restaurants for sailors, fishermen and dock workers to eat. When old Picchuck died at the end of last year, his son, not wanting to open a grocery store, took the small restaurant back and prepared to open the fishing gear and supplies store on board. ”

Eriksson refers to that brand new wooden sign.

“Are you sure you want to buy those two skins here?” Claude has some doubts.

“Of course, I am Ericsson, the young owner of the Red Sea Shark, my father is the famous Captain Autruni, most of the sailors here know me, any movement in the dock area will be known in less than three days...”

Ericsson was proud to say that he looked proud: “I already knew that Vakuri was going to open this fishing gear and supplies store on board. I knew exactly what he was selling and what he was buying...”

“Well, as long as the eyes aren't blind, everyone knows.” Bok Al said, pointing his finger at two large planks hanging next to the store.

Large boards are marked with various items and prices sold in the store, and small boards are marked with information on items purchased, although prices are not marked at the back.

“Wakuri went to the Gilp Pi store a short time ago, hoping to buy a bunch of furs from there at a low price and reach a long-term cooperation agreement, which was only rejected by the Gilp Pi store. So now he's in competition with the Gilp Pi store, and Vero's two pieces of leather are definitely more expensive to buy than the Gilp Pi store.” Bok Al has a bamboo in his chest.

“Uncle Wakuri, Uncle Wakuri, is anybody here?” Erickson has gone into the empty hall and screamed.

“Who is it?” Someone answered behind the store that a skinny, tall middle-aged man in his 40s appeared in front of everyone and was chewing on what was still in his mouth.

Well, I almost forgot it's noon, and Waqouri's having lunch.

“Oh, it's little Ike. What do you want?” Middle-aged people say vaguely.

But Eriksson doesn't care if he's interrupting Wakuri's lunch time.

“Well, Uncle Vakuri, my classmate brought two pieces of leather to sell at the Gilp Pie store today, and I thought you were buying fur, so I pulled him here. I told him your takeover here must be higher than the Gilp Pie store, so you have to make a good price and don't embarrass me in front of my classmates. ”

“Oh, what hide?” Vakuri hastily tried to swallow what was in his mouth: “I'll take a look first, I'll definitely pay a good price if the skins are good. ”

“of the antelope.” Eriksson showed Verikero to open the package.

Vakuri looked at the hide very carefully, and he was not an outsider from the way he examined the fur.

“If you're going to take these two skins to the Gilp Pie store, they're going to give you up to six riazos, and since little Ike brought you here, I'm not going to let him down, so, seven riazos, can you see?” Waqouri finally stopped quoting the price by measuring the skins.

“Nine riazos, these two skins are yours.” The bargaining needs to be done by Bok Al.

“No, no, no, no, no. Nine riazos are too expensive, and no one will pay so much to buy these two skins. You see, the edges of this leather are all broken, and this leather, here's a big hole in the head. If it's two new leathers, it might be worth nine riazos, but the two leathers have been around a little longer and haven't been saved yet...”

Wakuri shook his head and put down the leather in his hand: "If you insist on this price, you'll have to try your luck at the Gilp Pie store, maybe they'll be willing to buy it with nine riazos. ”

“Come on, Uncle Wakuri, you add a little bit more, I'll make it a little less, it's not easy for us to come all the way from noon.” Erickson rushed to the roundabout.

Vakuri sighed: "Well, I'll add four more sonars, which is still in front of your little Ike. ”

“Eight riazos, one price.” Uncle Vakuri, unlike the Gilp Pi store, they buy fur mainly to make leather coats and armor hats. And what you're dealing with is fishing gear and supplies on board, and the fur you need is good for wildlife, mainly for warmth and waterproofing, regardless of the size of the fur you acquire.

Because the fur you need here is the fur vest the sailor fits, or the gloves, the soft shoes, the leather sheath. The rest of the leather can also be cut into silk strips and rubbed on the fishing net line, so there's nothing to waste about the fur you buy here.

My classmate's father was Kubrick. Fonseca, you should have heard his name, our best hunter in White Deer Town. If you bought these two skins with eight riazos, I'm sure his father wouldn't just sell them to the Gilp Pie store. As soon as the news got out, all the hunters in town knew where to sell the fur they had captured... ”

Wakuri pondered for a moment and nodded finally: “Well, you convinced me, just eight riazos, but you need to make sure that if you have fur in the house for sale in the future, you must come to me first...”

No one can guarantee this, but everyone knows that if Verricolo's smart sister knew that these two old antelope leathers could sell eight riazos at a high price, then the fur they caught would never be sold again at the Gilp's Leaf Store, so everyone nodded.

“By the way, Uncle Vakuri, we're here today to buy something in addition to these two pieces of leather. Don't you have any of your old groceries for sale now? ”

Eriksson was a little silly, and just now he looked at the planks that said he was selling items and found that there was nothing on them to buy.

“What are you buying?” Wakuri handed eight riazos over to Villicro, who turned around and handed them over to Boquer.

“Guns, gunpowder, sulfur powder, lime powder, and deworming water...”

“Oh, these are in the middle, you come in, they're all written in large pieces. ”

The interior is about the same size as the outside hall, except that the windows on the rear wall are not large and the wooden railings are inserted, which makes the light a little less good. But since it's noon and it's sunny again, you can still see the rows of plaid shelves placed against the wall in the middle.

“Wow, Uncle Vakuri, you put this treasure from the grocery store here!” Eriksson's eyes were attracted to a silver-yellow knife on the wall.

“Claude, Vero, take a look, this is the ivory knife. ”

There is a wooden box a meter and a half wide with dark blue velvet and a silver yellow knife hanging seventy centimetres in the middle.

In my memory, Claude did hear about this ivory knife, like a sheath knife knife made entirely of ivory, all silver and yellow. The blade is said to be made of the famous Hollywood steel and meteorite. It is a real knife.

The Ivory Knife came from a very clear source. Old Monk, the owner of the first generation of grocery stores, rescued a distressed captain by the sea. The captain seemed to be a nobleman of a kingdom in the north of the mainland, prepared to return home with his wounds, and gave the Ivory Knife to Old Monk for remembrance.

Ten gold coins were offered to acquire the ivory knife, which was rejected by old Monk, who passed it on to his son Pichuk as the treasure of the town shop, and now it's Wakuri's turn.

“How much is this ivory knife worth now?” asked Bok Al.

“Can it truly cut the iron?” Villicro is concerned about the sharpness of the blade.

Claude shrugged his shoulders. In fact, in his view, this ivory knife, the noblemen, used it to carry a forceful color. There is absolutely no practical knife handle made of ivory. Not to mention the problem of not sucking sweat. When two knives strike each other in a real fight, light vibration can crack the ivory knife handle off. Of course, if this blade really cuts iron like mud, that's different.

“What's the number of guns and gunpowder you want?” Vakuri did not answer the questions of Bok Al and Velikro, not knowing whether to answer them in disdain or why he did not hear them.
